SCRATCH THE MOVIES PART OUT I'LL DO THE MOVIES PART LATER. For example, for music, people listen to today's all famous pop artists (which aren't really that good, btw). These artists include: Katy Perry (I CAN'T STAND HER), Justin Bieber (I hate him so much that I wish his career would die in flames), Ke$ha (she just sucks, period), etc. The only two good pop artists I really liked is the Black Eyed Peas and Michael Jackson. Our generation likes everything I hate. But for rap, people listen to Wocka Flocka Flame, Soulja Boy, Lil' Boosie, etc. The only good rap was back in the 80's and 90's (back when rap didn't suck ass). Oh, and my advice, If you want REAL rap, you should listen to Insane Clown Posse. Oh, and that's another thing. I HATE it whenever I go like "Wocka wocka wocka wocka!" people think I'm talking about Wocka Flocka Flame! I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT STUPID RAPPER, DAMMIT! I'M TALKING ABOUT PACMAN!!!!!!!!!!!! Our generation doesn't listen to any rock (yes I did research, and barely anyone listens to rock nowadays)! I LIKE ROCK, DAMMIT! WHY DOESN'T OUR GENERATION LIKE ROCK?!?!?! Generation, If you are reading this, GET A DAMN TASTE IN MUSIC. My advice, you should listen to some bands like Skillet, or Papa Roach, Rise Against, Paradise Lost, Lacuna Coil, Godsmack, etc. Edited by JonmanOwnsYou, Feb 10 2011, 09:41 AM.

IMO, I love the old rock as well. I'm really not a big fan of the new rap kinda-of stuff, and pop annoys the hell out of me. I like Led Zeppelin though, I think it's my favorite band of all time. Lit is a close second. |

IKR?! Pop is very annoying, especially the "Like a G6" song. It sucks, it's not even good, and it's played on the radio way to damn much! Also, the guys who sing it are pop artists who are wanna-be rappers. Edited by JonmanOwnsYou, Feb 10 2011, 09:46 AM.

I honestly think that this generation's music sucks, however, I'm only one person and I can't speak for the world. Some people may like it, some don't. Let them have their culture and let us have ours, ya know. |

I'm pretty sure if I wanted to listen to real rap, I'd start with Eminem, Jay-Z, and possibly Kanye West. I just did a quick search: "2334 adolescents aged 12 -19 revealed four clearly interpretable music-preference dimensions: Rock, Elite, Urban and Pop/Dance". (Article published in 2007) How dare you ridicule people based on what type of music they prefer. Maybe you should broaden your musical horizon. Actually, all Pop isn't bad. That particular song is catchy beat-wise but the lyrics just don't make sense. Right now, that's a song I listen to often. I don't hear it on the radio all the time since I have a XM subscription and only listen to Classic/Hard Rock, Metal, and some other stuff. While I'll always listen to rock, I can (and will) listen to other genres as I please. It's who I am. |
Voted "A serious lurker who'll one day live in a box!" Thanks Everyone!

I agree with 55K. I listen to a lot of music, like 90's rap (that's the real shit) classical junk like Dvorak and Vivaldi, video game music, current rock, punk rock, etc. Insane Clown Posse is...really bad, at least for me. Music, in my opinion, is only music if there's a reason for making it; like rappers rap about hardships and troubles they had, Motion City Soundtrack sings about living with depression and anxiety and awkward feelings, Green Day sings about politics (at least recent GD), and I could go on. ICP's lyrics never really spoke to me as having a purpose. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I never heard anything about ICP speaking of hardships of troubles, just about fucking the world and such. And pop for some people is fun. I listen to pop sometimes; albeit not recent pop; I'm going through my huge instrumental phase. Instrumental music gives you emotions and feelings that lyrics can't give you. With instrumental, you have to imagine what the song was written for, as lyrics come right out and tell you why the song was written. If you want real music, listen to everything. Maybe pop isn't your cup of tea, but trust me, Papa Roach and Godsmack definitely aren't mine, but I don't say you have a terrible taste in music. It depends on what you like... |

It's a personal preference, and it's one we can't control or dictate. I can't stand the music my little brother and my father listens to, but that's because we want different things out of our music. They listen to gritty rap music (not so much main stream, but more classic stuff like Kool G Rap, KRS 1, etc), and they're in it for the attitude and the overall hook to it. Personally, if I don't agree with the message of a song (if there is one) then I simply won't listen to it, no matter how catchy the music sounds. I can't stand hearing about how many shots you can take, or how many women you knocked up, or how many people you murdered. It's negative, and it bothers the fuck out of me. I personally listen to a lot of jazz and soul music, with a bit of electronica and hip hop mixed in. My particular favorite artists are Mos Def, John Coltrane, Mr. Meguro, The Roots and a few underground jazz/tech DJ's, and even with them I'm picky about what comes into my ears. Coltrane and Meguro tend to do instrumentals, so it's not really a problem with them, but both Mos Def and The Roots have a few songs that I won't listen to. I'm not a fan of Rock music, I don't like Metal, I don't like rap, I don't like "mainstream" music in general. I'll listen to some classic pop, and there's a few Metallica songs that I do like (Brave New World being one off the top of my head), but other than that, no thank you. You've got to realize, everyone has different tastes. If everyone liked the same thing, the would would be boring. You might think they have a bad taste in music, but they probably think you have a bad taste in music; and there's no way to prove either right or wrong. It's all preference. Edit To clarify - I'm open to anything, but before I actually listen to the song as a whole, I listen to the lyrics first. So it's not that I don't like Rock music flat out - there are a few songs that I do like - it's just that a lot of the times, as with rap, the lyrics ruin it for me. I'm willing to listen to any genre, (which is why I really like the music exploration thread and I think it should be here, not in forum games) but it takes a bit more than a catchy hook to get me to like something. Pop and R&B are the only two genres of music I don't really like. Pop has always been shitty though, it wasn't any better last generation. Also it's just wrong to say no one listens to rock anymore. It is a shame how music that takes all of 2 seconds to make sells so much better though. |

I have no preference over which type of music I listen to. I don't really listen to any at all unless it's on the radio. To me, it's all the same. I don't know the names of many songs, I didn't know what like a G6 even was until i looked it up on google. |

Nope, nothing's really changed. The reason you think TODAY'S MUSIC SUX OMG is because you're too young to remember anything that came before it. When people look back on the music of previous decades, they tend to only remember the best stuff, instead of the mountains and mountains of garbage. Pop music in particular is very of the moment, and most acts don't last more than a few years. All the acts you don't like at the moment will be gone in few years, to be replaced with another wave of acts everybody complains about and insist represents the decline in the quality of music. So yeah. D: |

There is no such things as bad music, just personal taste. Even if there is only one person on the planet that likes a Genre it is still doing it's job of being entertaining to somebody. The other thing to bring up is the fact that there are actually a good number of bands out there releasing great stuff, it just happens that most of them are not going to be found on the Top 40 or you local "Only Play 10 Popular Songs A Week On Loop" Radio Stations (every city has at least one of these). If you want to find music that appeals to you these days you might have to go looking for it, but it is out there.
Oh yeah, those guys... you know that thing I said above about there not being any "bad" music? I take that back. God these guys are just terrible. Fucking Magnets, How Do They Work!? |

Taste is subjective. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone should not like it. Also I have bieber, ke$ha, and Katy Perry on my ipod. Get@me |
