Kinect is a 3D camera - it actually maps your body, judges distance, recognizes certain patterns, moves to track your body while the EyeToy remains stationary the entire time, possesses voice location and noise suppression, etc. The eyetoy is just a camera - it can't do half of what the Kinect does. Even if you don't like the Kinect, it's underwhelming to say it's the same thing - Kinect is way more powerful and accurate than the EyeToy. They are not the same thing.

The PS3 has had several games that use the EyeToy without the Move, including Eye of Judgment, Aqua Vita, Mesmerize, Operation Creature Feature, SingStar, Tori-Emaki, and The Trials of Topoq, all of which were released back in 2007, way before Kinect launched. While I haven't played any of these games outside of Eye of Judgment, the other games were Sony licensed, so I can't imagine that they were just pushed as Shovelware titles.

What I don't understand about Kinect is how it can map your body without accidentally picking up other things in the background. I can say that currently, it's impossible for a camera to be intelligent enough to which person it should be paying attention to.

Every time I've used the Kinect, it's never picked up anything that it wasn't supposed to - yes, it picks up humans that pass by, because it's a camera, and it's supposed to do it. If it didn't, it wouldn't be a very successful camera. It doesn't pick up sofa's or coffee tables, or anything else from what I've used, because it's not supposed to.

Heh. So it just reads whatever is closest and moving? I'm not too into Kinect since it slashes through a lot of diversity: Platformers? Forget it. First Person Shooters? Too much work and movement would be frusterating. RPGs? There's potential for it, but it would be tiring. This is why I prefer the Wii: at least you have a control pad so it doesn't bite into the games you can play.

@ lileep - It detects a person, then it has to re-detect the person when another person walks by.

If someone/something walks past it will try and track that aswell , I know this because I have a friend whose kinect messed up every time his dog walk past it , that was after he cleared enough space for it to actually work .

how would a fps work on kinect anyway ? how would you turn the camera ?

I've heard rumors of a gun shaped device that has a trigger and a button besides a fake magazine that would work. There is already guitars and fisking reels out, so this is actually pretty good one.

The PS Move is totally pointless. It's exactly like the wii but with no games. And that orb on the top - It looks ridiculous. I might get it eventually, but I'm not in any hurry. They just want Nintendo's profit. Now if you compare the price of the wii to the PS3 + Move, it's like, twice as much. The wii is $200 in local stores here, and PS3 is $300. Now move is another $100 on top of that. Why would anyone pay so much more just to get slightly more accurate remote.
I think its funny how you think you know what you're talking about.
The PS3 is more expensive because its more advanced than the Wii could ever hope to be. And FYI- most of the people who buy PS3, don't but it for the Move. They buy it for the kick ass games.
I cannot envision someone buying a system like the PS3 just to play Move /=

And of coure they want nintendos profit. Sony is a business, and any dumbfuck could tell you that the main point of a business is to make MONEY.
