    Quiet, please, it's snack time!
I wanna get it because I loved the original NES games, but also like the updated graphics, sound and save files (particularly when it comes to Lost Levels). I never had a SNES for this game (had all on NES except for Lost Levels, obviously). :(

And the CD/Book sound really cool as well.

And happy 2000th post for me. *Fireworks*

Oh yeah for people who like the cd , it has only one song from each game ....

if its the japaneese then its most likely the full one .

on the subject of the package itself , their all snes styled ones so thats something over just downloading them .

Now that All-Stars is out what does everyone think? I am a bit disappointed in Nintendo that the game is an EXACT replica of the SNES version. I thought they would give it a bit re-amp. The same graphics, same menu, they even show a super nintendo controller for controls, etc. Also, is it just me or so the controls feel off?
I mean its still Mario and a great game but once again NES cut corners :\ 3/5 stars

Pretty much , as I said before the they cxould have atleast added mario world , I can guarantee with all the games on there it wont reach 250mb and out of a 4gb disc they could fit mario world mario64 and mario sunshine to that lot and you could still squeeze nsmbw in , ok the price would be like 40 buy then but it would also be worth buying at that point .

"The Lost Levels" is the true "Super Mario Bros. 2". It only got released on the Famicom in Japan. The game was deemed too difficult and too similar to the first one and Nintendo didn't think it would have good sales in other countries.
The game that we ended up with was basically an altered version of a Japanese game called, "Doki Doki Panic".

"The Lost Levels" was remade and put onto the "Super Mario All-Stars" cartridge, so we eventually got it.

If I'm honest, I only played it for about 5 minutes. But, I'm guessing it is a full game. I don't see why it wouldn't be...

I think my brother has got me it for Christmas. My mum told me that he got me a game, but she wasn't sure what the full title of it was. She just said "Super Mario" and that it's the "newest one", so, I'm assuming it's All-Stars. It couldn't be anything else.

Everyone always says it was not released because it was too hard but I've never seen any good sources on that info. It gets posted so much that I guess it has become true? Everyone just takes it for granted but I never found an example of anyone at Nintendo actually saying that. Meanwhile basically every other NES game that was changed for release outside of Japan was made harder! It just doesn't add up if you ask me!

I also object to calling one the "real" SMB2. I mean. They're both real.

But yes the All Stars version of the Lost Levels is a remake of the full Super Mario Bros 2 released for the FDS in Japan. IIRC the only thing they really changed (besides the look and the sound) is you only need to do 1 loop in stead of 4 to get to the bonus levels.

Well, as I said, I haven't played the game much at all and I don't really know anything about it.
I'm not even able to give my own personal opinion on how difficult I thought it was. I just had a look around the internet for reasons why "The Lost Levels" wasn't released outside of Japan as the second "Super Mario Bros." game and the "too difficult" reason was the only one that popped up.
If that's not the reason, then I guess we'll not know what it was until Nintendo themselves tell us. :/

Miyamoto himself said The Lost Levels was meant to be difficult and give dedicated fans a challenge, so I don't know why it wouldn't be released for being too hard. Then again, I don't have any other explanation so...

Well yes, okay. The game is harder than Super Mario Bros. Apparantly in the book Game Over, there is an interview with Howard Lincoln where he says he thought the game was cheap and irritating. So that's something anyway. I'd have to read the book to see if he says anything else.
