It's most certainly a prank. Having a mirror satellite company bring legal action against something that's common, public knowledge is absurd. Unless they've broken a contract, there's nothing they can do. They'd have to bring legal action against every single entity out there, websites, podcast, and video alike, that has the same information. That'd be absurd and quite honestly, impossible. Also, just to remind everyone, the document in question is poorly formatted to fit any company, let alone a large, popular one like Nintendo. Just saying. |

Yeah, that letter doesn't seem very legitimate to me. It doesn't seem very "formal". Poorly formatted and it contains grammatical errors (as people have already mentioned). I think it's a joke. |

Considering Serebii has already taken down all images, it's not a joke. |

PokeBeach hasn't, and neither has most other large pokemon sites. It doesn't seem legitimate, to be honest.
Pretty much this. Looks like something 4chan whipped up. If not, there's something definitely fishy going on here. Erm, also, did anyone else notice how PokeBeach, at the top, reads "We just received copies of Pokemon Black and White (the ROMs, that is - our real copies are still being shipped). " ? If anyone representing Nintendo, or anyone affiliated with Nintendo (in this case, The Pokemon Company), the letter would've pointed it out. It didn't. This is some kind of hoax. Legitimacy was a huge question in that letter and it just wasn't there. Seems like a lie, and from what Ice has brought up, there's not question about it. |

Well, apparently Jack and the owner of poke beach believe it enough to be true. I just can't see it: it doesn't make any sense. The fact that Nintendo of America is the supposed sender as opposed to Nintendo Co. (The main japanese branch) or even The Pokemon Company (who deals with the state of pokemon and all of their affairs personally) is insanely odd. Not only that, but giving someone 24 hours (as opposed to the usual 7 business days as most regulations require) doesn't seem right. Coupled with the fact that the content in question is already tender (not to mention all of the errors in the document itself, including non-legal terms and spelling/gramma issues), it just doesn't seem right. Both Jack and pokebeach should've demanded to see the companies EIN - Nintendo of America and Nintendo Co have different ones- requesting the number would've made the sender question both Jack's and pokebeach's knowledge on the subject. (Among forcing the sender to identify the number - something both peeps could've ratified with Nintendo themselves.) OR they could just contact Nintendo. It's really not that hard. Just forward the letter to them and ask if they sent it. |

//snip Well the takedown has been done. But I must admit the new site name and banner made me lol. Go Ditto! And haha, the post topics (in upper right hand corner of each news post now list 'Some Games' :p I would guess they're doing this in a better-safe-than-sorry attitude. Apparently Jon (from PokeBeach) had called the sender of the letter to confirm it, Ice, but I agree, I'm not sure why they haven't done anything directly with Nintendo at this point. Maybe they have, but they're just waiting for a response. I shall dig for more info. Edited by 55K, Sep 21 2010, 08:12 AM.

Ffs, sorry for the double post. I did it from my Black Berry on the way to church ![]() I've sent an Email to NOA's legal department. I doubt they'll respond, but hopefully they will. If all else fails, someone can just call and ask if it's true. It just doesn't make much sense. Either way, I went ahead and copied both PokeBeach's main page and Serebii's Main page with all of the images and charts in tact. If anyone wants them, I'll be glad to email them. |

I work for a part of Nintendo, and I think you misunderstand this. Please let me explain. Nintendo doesn't hate fan sites. They love them. Sites like Sereebii and Pokébeachdoes a great job of celebrating everything Pokémon. If Nintendo didn't like them, they would have had their sites removed long ago. The point is that these sites publish EVERYTHING from the games even before they're out here in the US. They publish secret Pokémon and items that Nintendo might use in campaigns, and therefore they actually hurt sales, maybe without even knowing it. If these sites really respect Pokémon as a brand, they would know better than to rip 100% of the content of the ROM and publish everything before the game is even out. The funny thing is that they often write "Copyright Nintendo" on their sites, but then when Nintendo asks them to remove some content they get angry. I think it's sad that they have that attitude. Nintendo doesn't do this to pick a fight, they do it to defend their sales and their campaigns. I, and I'm sure Nintendo are as well, am fully aware of that you can never stop people from sharing this content. But that's not the point. The point is to limit it. Serebii och Pokébeach are two huge Pokémon sites that a lot of people visit, and of course Nintendo has their eyes on them always. |

I believe the answer is quite simple here. They received the images before the launch of the Japanese game. The only way they could do that is if they acquired it through nefarious means. It seems likely that Nintendo was reacting more to this then simply the posting of sprites as copyright infringement. Especially since all of the sites mentioned have other generations sprites posted without objection. |

No, that's false. Nothing that Pokebeach posted was from ROMs or anything of the like. They posted pictures from those that had received their copies a day or two beforehand. But, why tell you myself. Check it all out on their site. http://pokebeach.com/#nintendo-follow-up It's all true. Which is very disheartening. No matter how much these 'leaks' are in conflict with Nintendo's views on marketing, it's no excuse. Free publicity from dedicated fans is good, yet doing something like this is essentially telling us fans, "We don't need you, so back off." I still love the Big N, and will most likely purchase Black upon their release in US. But it's just ... saddening, is all. Edited by Angel of Light, Sep 22 2010, 04:43 AM.

You got it wrong. It's NOT telling fans "We don't need you". Actually, I think the fans don't respect Nintendo here. They KNOW it's Nintendo's property, and then when Nintendo takes a rare action (they never touch these sites otherwise because there's no reason) they get angry. I think they respect themselves a lot more than they respect Pokémon as a brand. |

As such was stated in opinion, I'm pretty sure it's right for me. One's own individual opinion does not necessarily define what you feel. Even though I still respect Nintendo for what they've done over they years, that is truly how I feel. It's a slap in the face to me personally as a fan. If you don't take it like that, good for you. |

The problem is that they're taking action on crap that's actually advertising their properties. They should be aiming at the sites providing ROMs of Black and White if they want to protect any potential damage. |
