Very recently, Nintendo has issued a cease and desist letter to high ranking members of the Pokemon news world. They are asking them to take down their images pertaining to the recently released games Pokemon Black and Pokemon White.

A very recent quote from the owner of the Pokebeach website.

We just got a letter from Nintendo (edited to remove personal info obviously) asking to take down all of our Black and White images or bad stuff will happen. I called the lawyer who sent the letter and he said he'll be making the rounds on other Pokemon sites as well and that they're doing an investigation. I was first on their list. I'm about to go out while Bangiras plays the game due to a family emergency but I have 24 hours to remove the images. Joy! Anyways, we'll continue to play the game and report what we find like we've been doing. Oh and the lawyer said he likes my site. :p

Awww shit. That's not good. Or like them, either. In fact, it doesn't really make much sense - there are far too many sources around the net for them to actually take down public information. Sounds fake :/

BUT, just incase, I'm going around backing up webpages so that I can save the info.

From how Pokebeach's owner is reacting, I don't know if it's all that fake.

It's dangerous territory when you tread on legal issues. But I will admit, this is a bit off ... I'm not sure why they're doing something like this.

There's no way that letter was written by a professional - there's all kinds of grammatical errors tacked to that page.

Not only that, but Nintendo of America has nothing to do with this particular task - it'd be Nintendo Co. itself, not NOA that deals with it. That and the fact that if anyone were to take legal action, it'd be GameFreak, not Nintendo. I doubt this entire thing. If it is real, Nintendo needs to hire an English teacher for their legal division.

Actually reading through it myself, I see your point, IC.

Having grammatical errors in a legal document technically nullify the entire thing, if I'm not mistaken.

And another thing ... what legal branches are open in the weekends?

Well, big companies like Nintendo generally have one of those "on call" attorney set ups. I'm not saying it's fake - it just doesn't seem professional at all. Looks like a prank, if any.

Adding to the argument that it COULD be a prank is this.

No other sites have mentioned anything about this letter yet. Meaning they haven't received one.

Where did you find this on Pokebeach? It's not on the front page, at least not anymore.

Also, the fact that he called the lawyer to confirm adds a bit of truth to it, though I guess it still could be a prank.

    OH SHIT

Is Nintendo finally becoming Money-Whores? If I were Nintendo, I wouldn't do this to people posting pictures of B/W, since the pictures only increase publicity = more buyers.

Well, it's unknown still if it's even them.

Some are suspecting 4Chan of the incident.

I don't see the big deal about Nintendo wanting to sue these websites...or whatever they may do. However, they own the rights and everything, so they do have the authority to do this stuff. Whoever really wanted this info has seen it already though, so maybe it's not that bad of a thing and eventually, everyone will see it.

Has Nintendo ever done this before?

Didn't the game come out in Japan, like, today?
Having them take all the pictures down as of now is ridiculous.

BonBon, I'm not sure when it came out in Japan. I'll check on it, but if that's the case, then it's pretty ridiculous that Nintendo wants websites to take down the pictures...

Edit: Yep, the game came out in Japan today. I read that usually, games are released on Thursdays, but Saturdays are saved for the big releases, so it came out today...

It's certainly not a bad thing that Nintendo is seeming like a 'money whore,' lileep. They've lost quite a bit of money this past several years due to increasingly rampant piracy on the DS. One of the main things they're focusing on with the 3DS is pirate-proofing it as much as they can.

But it is out in Japan now... So, unless this is a prank (because they certainly didn't do this with Diamond and Pearl, and those had huge leaks months before even the Japanese release), maybe they still think that Western fans know nothing of what goes on in Japan, and vice versa? :s
