And Yet the GBA Games like Metroid:Zero Mission and Metroid:Fusion...Don't Really Have Dark Visuals,Yet They Both Capture the Central Feeling of Metroid.

Isn't it widely agreed that the neon, animesque style used in Fusion and Zero Mission was the worst case of art direction the series?
Most fans and critics praise Super Metroid and Primes visuals far more than those two.
It may have not been Well Recieved (And i haven't Heard of a Single person who Actually Disliked it) But it Captured the Metroid Feel Very well.

As i've Said,Super Metroid Wasn't Gritty and yet its the Best Game in the series.

Metroid Games do not have to look like Killzone in order to be Metroid,They just have to Capture the Feel of Lonelyness and Vunerability. (Not TOO Vunerable =P)

A lot more could have been done with it, though.
Not that it truly matters, since sprites make the stylistic differences pretty negligible. If any future games used this style in 3D, that's a whole new ball game.

Gritty isn't a good description of it.
The visuals are definitely dreary. Especially considering the system they were working with.

I once again point to these-

Those aren't even close to the art in Killzone, or any modern FPS's similar to it.
I don't wish nor expect for Metroid games to go towards gritty realism.

Again, I can't agree more with BonBon, those pictures are very similar to what would be a good setting in Metroid. About the handheld version, they did have nice visuals, but they look nothing like what UDON has done. His is much more of the aforementioned cel=shaded Zelda series.

For the sake of sounding original (not saying, ME THREE), I can see where you're both coming from.

But through the track record of Metroid, and what we've all come to know the series as, I can safely say that BonBon has a far better prediction as to where the series will go art wise.

You have a good idea, spartan. But it simply doesn't fit as well with what I've personally come to know as Metroid as BonBon's idea does.

Of course that doesn't mean that we completely disagree with you. Nintendo can surprise sometimes.

If they ever come out with Chibi-Metroid, then we'll talk.

Udon's art Style Could Work for a 3D Metroid Game,Albeit with a Slighty darker Tone

But, Udon's Art would be PERFECT For a 2D or 2.5D Metroid Game (Nameley,How Samus looks like in the "Smash Bros" Art)

And Chibi-Metroid Would Ruin the Series,It would make an-Otherwise Great Atmosphere and Turn it into a Series of "Awwww Samus looks So Cute!" From people playing it.

The Art style Does not only suit "Cute-Shibi" style,it CAN be used For Normal Metroid.

But Alas,Until we See an actual Metroid Games-art Direction Done by Udon and in the Style of the Way Samus looks like in the "Smash Bros" art or the "Gamepro Cover:Shooters" Art, Skeptics will be Skeptics

I can understand your opinion completely, but I still don't think that it would be received well.

I just don't think that there will be a game with this art style, because it just doesn't fit the mood that Metroid brings with it.

Just a heads up guys - UDON is full of talented artists - they draw in that bright, colorful (and shiny) manner because it's the way they've been asked or because they think it looks best. If they were doing art for Nintendo and they didn't want it to be flashy, they could certainly adjust (as they have for the SC cards they did.)

Do you mean the full art for a game, or an artbook? Either way, I think both would be interesting. Maybe not for a 2D or mainstream game, but maybe for some kind of new genre? (Metroid RTS, anyone?) I think it would look great.

If they went with something new for a Metroid game, I'd need to see some examples to judge.
I'm basing my argument entirely off the featured art from their Deviantart page.
