They also remade both games for Wii.
The Wii versions have the same title but they have "New Play Control!" at the start.
Oh and if you live in the U.S. you can't get the second one on Wii but you can still get it on Game Cube.

I'm guessing by your avatar that you are quite fond of Pikmin. Am I right, Letmethink?

Pikmin is an RTS that revolves, usually, around Captain Olimar and the little bug/plant creatures known as Pikmin.

What you do during this game is basically go on expeditions to find "stuff". By "stuff" I mean things like batteries, old cans, apples, Nintendo memorabilia, and etc. But the thing is, Olimar can't do it alone, because he's the size of a thumb and these items are huge. So he needs the Pikmin.

The Pikmin are basically infantry that go out and do your bidding. You can command them to attack, retrieve, and some manner of other things (but attack and retrieve are main). Their numbers vary, but I'm pretty sure you can have about a hundred or so Pikmin with you of each type.

When it comes to types, there are 5 total. Red, Blue, Yellow, White, and Purple. Here is a list of their separate abilities.

RED -- Withstands fire, most common (IMO).
BLUE -- Only ones that can swim, can be thrown farther than regular(?)
YELLOW -- Withstands electricity, can be thrown higher than regular(?)
    WHITE -- Withstands poison, lightest
PURPLE -- Heaviest, strongest, 1 of these counts for 10 in retrieving (and possibly attacking).

You're goal throughout the entire game is to collect enough "stuff" to gain money for your boss' company back home. When you collect the full amount, you're done. You go home, and bye bye Pikmin.

    Any questions?

The yellow Pikmin 'catch air with their ears' and can go higher, and can carry explosive "Bomb rocks". Enemies are more attracted to the blue ones more for some unknown reason (They technically don't 'swim' but they have gills that look like a mouth and run through the water)Blue Pikmin are also known to save drowning Pikmin. The white Pikmin can run the fastest, due to their size and lightweight, plus they can dig for underground items, and they don't just withstand poison, but they are poisonous themselves. The red Pikmin are slightly stronger attackers than the others (besides purple). It's a given but purple Pikmin are the slowest and are thrown the lowest, due to their weight.

    Enough information? :)

EDIT: I did not play Pikmin 2, due to low money, but I read and learned this info on their Wiki.

I've never played the first one, myself. But, I think that playing either one is really worth it.

Well, by general consensus, the second game was named a wide improvement and I agree. It also has two players, if you want that. Basically, if you're looking to play the better game first, get Pikmin 2. It does however, have a mild connection story wise.

I personally only played 2. Loved it.

Two has two extra types of Pikmin, which are White and Purple. They're not present in the first for reasons stated in the second.

Other than that, you have Louie in the second, who you can switch between during gameplay, creating a double front of Pikmin. You distribute your Pikmin as a whole between the two of them, and can place accordingly to what you need to do.
