I think people are missing the point behind the word "franchise" - just because the creator of a series (like say, Donkey Kong Country) was acquired by another company, doesn't mean that the new company owns the series. If that were the case, Microsoft would own Donkey Kong Country, Which everyone knows isn't true.
At the same time, just because a series has a few games on your console (such as Final Fantasy) doesn't mean it's a "Sony" franchise. If that were true, Street Fighter could be considered a Sony franchise, which, as everyone knows, is also not true.
Meaning... Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear, Spyro, and Crash Bandicoot aren't "Sony franchises." Yes, Naughty Dog is owned by Sony now. No, it doesn't make Crash and Spyro a Sony franchise. Why?
Naughty Dog stopped making Crash games in 1999. More than 5 other developers have held the IP since then. Naughty Dog has NOTHING to do with Crash Bandicoot anymore. Meaning Sony has NOTHING to do with the Crash Bandicoot IP anymore. It's not theirs. The same goes with Spyro, except Activision Blizzard actually owns the rights to Spyro, making it an Activision Franchise, not Sony.
Also - My favorite SC franchise would probably be Littlebig Planet.
First of all, Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo, so of course it's not gonna be owned by Microsoft. If Nintendo owns the right to a franchise, M$ can't just grab the rights to the character. So yeah, DKC and Star Fox Adventures is exempt from it, but such games like Banjo-Kazooie , Goldeneye, etc. are all pure Rare games, so therefore..........yeah. Metal Gear was created by Sony, and every Metal Gear game has been on a Sony console. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were both owned by Sony Computer Entertainment for the vast majority of their games.
Golden Eye is not a "pure" Rare game - the James Bond rights (including Golden Eye) belong to Activision, hence the new Golden Eye game coming out. The big problem with the original Golden Eye was the fact that Nintendo owned content that belonged in the game, while Activison held the actual licensing and title. They never belonged to Rare in the first place - the James bond series itself isn't a video game one, and the rights have, and will always belong to Activison, unless it is sold. As for Metal Gear : Wtf? No, every game has not been on a Sony console, nor was any title created by Sony. Konami is both the creator and owner of the Metal Gear series: Sony has NOTHING to do with the series, other then asking for a port of the MSX version, which Konami, not Sony, did. Ever hear of Ghost Babel or Snakes Revenge? Nintendo console exclusives, to this day. And that's besides the point - just because they appear on Sony consoles, doesn't mean that it's a Sony franchise. It also appeared on Nintendo and Microsoft consoles, as well as most PC's and a few others. And what the hell are you talking about? Sony NEVER owned EITHER Crash nor Spyro. Naughty Dog was acquired by Sony in 2001. They stopped making Crash games in 1999. They NEVER owned Crash - they published about 4 titles, out of about 15. As for Spyro - think again. Insomniac Games developed Spyro games between 1998 and 2000. Despite the fact that they have close ties with Sony, they are NOT owned by Sony - they are a third party developer. Sony only published 3 Spyro titles, out of 13 titles. That's a huge fucking gap. Please, please, please do some actual research before saying things. Metal Gear, Spyro, and Crash have never been owned by Sony. Ever. Can I add abit more to disprove this poll
Resident Evil is owned by Capcom and even the original RE was on the saturn, RE2 was on the N64, Dreamcast and the gamecube, RE3 was on Dreamcast and the gamecube and RE4 was on the gamecube first before any other console
Thats only the main series...not counting 5 of course as we all know thats multiplat as well
As for the poll, the lack of Twisted Metal makes me sad
