What is your favorite GameCube/Nintendo franchise?

Wow, a poll somehow turns itself through into an angry rant and arguement about what's bad and what's good and then what sucks. Really. I thought the whole point was just to choose the franchise and then say what you like and then leave it at that. I say Legend of Zelda, and I say it because it just it. MY favourite. MY personal favourite. May not be yours, but it is MINES.

    Thank you.
@Salazar, you know you could have just said Mother. No need to add anything on. Your opinion isn't fact. That's basically saying if your opinion was that the world should be ruled by monkeys, it's true. No.
@Aegis, really man? If you came in here, thinking all franchises sucked, then why post at all?
    There.

BTW, I really commend Togeshroob to trying to keep calm through the verbal violence. Real good job buddy.

    Were my words too harsh?
Not harsh, no. Editing your post down was somewhat pointless since it didn't really have any content that didn't reference the deleted stuff. Leaving it as is with no reference didn't make sense either. And riddle posted again while I was writing this post so man whatever. I give up.

(thus ends the serious portion of this post)

Basically, I get to talk about attitudes you're stuck not doing it ahahaha!

(that was a joke to distract you all from the piss-poor moderating going on)

I've played quite a few Fire Emblem games, and they range from tedious to amazing for me. I'm either getting cornholed by the RNG and skipping hours of mindless plot, or I'm cruising through with units I care about and... skipping mindless plot. Okay, the stories in Fire Emblem games don't really do it for me, but I'm pretty hard to satisfy with video game plot. I usually just want to play the next level, not listen to stuff.

As for Zelda, I like the older ones quite a bit. The 2 NES games, Link to the Past, the simpler game boy affairs. Well, the gameboy ones I've played anyway. I also enjoyed Wind Waker. That game totally sold me on its charm. The 3D ones usually wind up feeling monotonous for me for some reason. Like, Twilight Princess for example. All that town stuff you're forced to do right at the start. I know why it's there. But I don't like playing it. And people usually say that the game gets better after that and it does (how couldn't it since it's soooo boring), but I still don't like playing through an hour of tutorial.

As far as Mother goes, I have the first 2. I can't read japanese, so the first one just sort of sits on my shelf. I gave a translated version a shot a few years ago and it never really grabbed me. Earthbound was a cool reimagining of the first but it didn't really grab me either. It was okay, I guess. I guess the cute charm or whatever didn't work on me. I do like RPGs, and I don't mind the big grind, but I don't know. Something about it just didn't work. I can't quite put my finger on it, and it's obviously well put together. I don't really have any complaints. I didn't play it much when it was new, so maybe that's it. Maybe it's the bizzarre hype that surrounds it? When you go back to a game, it's hard for it to live up to its reputation. Never tried Mother 3 but I'm sure it's much in the same vein. Well put together, unique style. Maybe I'd like it. Who knows.

The only two Nintendo 'franchises' I've played where I have no qualms with any specific game I've played in it is Kirby and Mario. I know. Okay. HAL is an independent studio. I guess they'd be best described as a second party? Not too sure. And yeah, Mario games are for babies or whatever. And Kirby games are for even younger babies. But really I've had fun with every game I've played in both and I guess that's the important thing.

Now. I know. I've said some things that might challenge your passions. But I'm immune to nerd contempt so don't bother :)

Nah, but seriously. You're entitled to your opinion on these series, and what you posted was basically what you feel about them. I can't, nor shouldn't, force you to play Twilight Princess, nor change your opinion on all of these series.

Too bad this whole argument was started by a babbling idiot who thought he is the center of the universe, and thus made his opinions fact when that's not true at all.

    How immune?

Out of all those franchises, my favorite is, by far, the Zelda franchises. I do love most of them up there (with the exception of the ones I haven't tried, such as Pikmin and Harvest Moon), and they definitely rank up in my top...30 favorite franchises. I love everything about the Zelda series - from the characters to the game play. Love it love it love it.

Wow. This turned out to be a very, um, interesting thread.

My favorite is definitely Zelda. OoT has to be one of the best examples of the "Hero's Journey" story format, which I'm a sucker for. I also enjoy the characters they come up with.

Nice to see some people with common sense enter the thread. I've been waiting for that.
Maybe i never explained why Zelda was the best franchise (in MY opinion). I've always found it to be a GIGANTIC, living, breathing world. A vast place that makes you feel like Link would traveling crazy distances across lands. Plus, he's on a horse (congrats to all who get the joke). It makes you feel the hero and it makes you feel satisfies when you beat the game. That's the reason I loved the SNES, the games were crazy hard, but when you beat it, you felt like the king of the world. That's how I feel after beating a Zelda game, a lone man, conquering an entire world teeming with enemies of all different sorts. Yes I agree with anyone who says Zelda fans are stupid (Wind Waker - is kiddish, we want realistic, TP - is not good, I liked Wind Waker better), but I think people who say Zelda sucks as a whole, and then say 'omg if you disagree you're a dumbass' are even stupider. I wouldn't mind it if that last part wasn't in there.

Oh and Buffalo, that babbling idiot has been going around posting trollish comments everywhere. It surprises me so much ... that such people are out there.

I chuckled at the horse joke.

I completely agree with you about feeling like a hero. I've always thought the Zelda series has done well at building up to the final battles. Once you beat it you think back to how you got there and it's just a great feeling.

Not that Zelda's the only game that does that, but it's fairly consistent.

I forgot about the point of consistency. That's another great point for the franchise, they always chuck out amazingly received games over and over again. Another reason why this franchise takes a nice comfy place in my heart.

We already have plenty of threads for that.
Bitching about why Twilight Princess sucks is more fun.

Yet it's not too well received from what I see here. I agree it's not one the best games to come out for the Zelda franchise lately (again, MY opinion), but I don't think it sucks (do I have to say it again?).

I was just sticking up for my passion, and that is all from me about the 3d Zelda debate, some good points were made, and its always interesting to hear objective opinions on things that I fully support, but its just like whatever, if you wanna nitpick about a storyline thats made to be abstract, go ahead, it doesnt change mine or any zelda supporters opinion about the games. nubler and picklegod explained real well why I love the franchise, its just epic in every sense of the word, when I beat a zelda game, let alone- at 100%, watching the credits remembering everything you've done is just like damn, I just conqured that game in seriously epic fashion. Its all opinion still.

The beginning of TP is definately edgy, and I probably went too far saying that there masterpiece games, because simply enough, Nintendo constantly spits out masterpieces (as well as some not-so-much) I can think of a ton of Nintendo games that I call masterpieces, they just really know how to do video games. Its all my opinion so I can say whatever I want without declaring it as fact.
    Top 10 Favorite games:
    1. Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    2. Mother 3
    3. Pokemon (any version)
    4. Zelda: Majora's Mask
    5. Metroid Prime
    6. Super Mario Galaxy 2
    7. Zelda: Twilight Princess
    8. Zelda: Wind Waker
    9. Zelda: A Link to the Past
    10. Super Mario Galaxy
