Who here wants DLC for the next Smash Bros?

    Casual Bowser... oh, the horror!
DLC would be a perfect addition for a Smash Bros. game. Imagine: for 50 Nintendo Points, you could buy a character not in the game, a complex stage with special components that are not available for the stage builder, or buy special Nintendo soundtracks. Also, I had always imagined of a custom Brawl stage market. Players could post their custom stages online, and people could play on them. After playing, the person would have to rate the stage on a scale from 0 to 10. Nintendo would combine these scores from all of the stages posted in month by the player, and the top 20 people that got the best ratings altogether would get 50 Nintendo Points for that month. It woulodn't be that expensive for Nintendo to do, and it would encourage owners of the game to play it again and people that don't own the game to buy it.

Buy an incomplete game, then pay more to get the rest of it?

    No thanks.

I doubt I would pay for DLC, to be honest.

He means it's incomplete as in, they could've just put all the extra material in the game in the first place, instead of making us pay full price for the game, then pay more later for add-ons that could've/should've been in the game already.

And I agree with him. Though, if they did have DLC, I'd probably buy it. But I know that I would prefer it if they didn't.

Ah, now I see, and agree. Didn't see it from that point of view.

I don't want any Pikmins on the next smash, lame character idea in my opinion.

Or, on the other hand, it would allow you to play as characters, or battle on stages that weren't originally included in the game due to time restraints, and there could be updates to otherwise half-assed features like the stage builder and online. I would be against it if it was released shortly after the game itself, since a delay would be a more viable option, but releasing DLC a year or two after the game, or patching problems that hadn't been found during production is perfectly acceptable.

Of course, DLC shouldn't even be considered at the moment, since the Wii can barely handle it.

In case you didn't know DLC is stuff that they didn't put in the beginning of the game that later they think "DAMN we should've added that!" So they put it in as DLC and you can enjoy what should have been ^_^ But I do agree with you on the account that you have to pay for it, that would be hell. I would much rather download it for free.

    Not always true, actually.
A good example is Megaman 9 and 10, where the DLC was planned before release, and came no less than a week later. Most of the worries stem from this type of practice.

As for paying, there's no reason that new character and stage packs shouldn't cost a few bucks. No more than five dollars, but getting it for free means absolutely no profit for the extra work and money put in. For the DLC to continue being released, a price would necessary.
The only thing that should be handed out for free is patches and updates.

Yes there is a very good reason they shouldn't cost a few bucks. The reason is because it should have been a part of the game in the first place. The extra work should be put into the product, not as an afterthought to get more money out of us. If they want to do more work put it in the next game.

We really shouldn't want our video games to be money pits I can't really wrap my head around why people like spending as much money as possible. I don't support DLC and I've never even bought an expansion pack when they tried to sell us the same game twice back before you could pay to download.

Except they always have concepts that can't make it into the game due to time restraints.
DLC would allow the to introduce ideas that would have never made it into production, and without having to wait an entire console generation for a sequel that isn't coming out anytime soon..

If Nintendo's online was able to handle it, I'd actually hope for the game to make use of a system similar to Team Fortress 2, making use of free updates, patches and modding, rather than just dishing out a sequel every few years. Shame that it will never happen.
