In order for a DS to work you need to have the security settings set to WEP. I don't think it's compatible with anything higher.

Only way I can think of is to get another router (or use a computer) as an access point solely for your DS, therefore no sensitive information would be transferred across WEP.

There is no Adhoc compatibility. You will have to change your router's security settings. Router security is overrated, anyways. If you know what you're doing, you can keep anyone out, even without a password. It's all preference, though.

It's pretty much the opposite, unless you have a strong WPA2 password, pretty much anyone that knows what they're doing could get in.

Exactly. That's why I don't even bother with a password. I just limit my port connections to be in use only on a number of ports I need.
