Casual Bowser... oh, the horror!
|
On this thread we will be talking about the new Zelda game for Wii, Skyward Sword, coming out sometime in 2011. Hear you can post new features just found out, or preview the game. As we slowly approach the release date, I will be posting features just announced. To start thing off, as everyone knows, it has motionplus, and almost everyone that played it at E3 thought it had the best controls for a Wii game ever. The game is a mixture of cel-shading and realism, with the enemies looking threatning, but also artful. Also, it has just been anounced that Skyward Sword is taking place before Ocarina of Time. How could this effect the story? Well, it means there is a possibility of young Link being in the game. Source: http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=130953 Much remains to be announced, so continue to look at this thread. Enjoy! |

I like that they made a new platform zelda for the wii besides twilight princess. I like the new style of graphics even though i dont have the faintest idea of what cel shading is?? lol

Cel-shading is the type of graphics that use lighting effects more than normal. It is used mostly in non-serious games - I hope this is an exception. I'm happy that Nintendo changed the game's style of graphics. It's unique, but the characters are still recognizable. Edited by usmessi, Jul 21 2010, 03:17 PM.

What do you mean 'non serious' games? Cell-shading is an art style like any other, just with a different feel. Less realistic-looking does not mean less serious ;o But I will be avoiding this topic, unfortunately, I want to avoid being spoiled at all costs :< Unless of course I see some hater come in here, then of course I'll act D:< |

I doubt there will be any spoilers for at least half a year. Barely anything is known about the game itself, veery less its storyline. |

Well actually I already feel bad for knowing the small bits of story we do know :F I'm very strict in my definition of spoilers; I don't want to know the places you go, the items you use, nothing. |

I'm pretty sure cell shading was also used in Wind Waker...correct me if I'm wrong ![]() And I might get some hate for this...but I was actually hoping for a zelda style game like the Wind Waker...with more cartoon-ish effects...that was my favorite game of all time and I loved the simple, cartoon-ish effects and characters in the game...Twilight Princess was awesome...but it was a more serious game which wasn't bad...but I would prefer a Wind Waker style game....anyone else have the same mentality as me?

A sentence for you to read underneath my avatar.

I agree. It's like mixing the cel-shading of "Windu Waika" with "Tuwairaitu Purincessu"'s graphics. It's going back to it's OoT roots. =) My favorite LOZ game. Can't wait. |

This didn't blow me away at E3, but at the same time I'm really excited. It didn't look very responsive to me, but Nintendo will have all the bugs and such fixed by its time to release I'm sure. Also the art style has sort of grown on me. At first I didn't like it, but now it looks really good. So yeah I'm very excited for Skyward Sword. |

Actually, the game didn't have responsive problems; Miyamoto and everyone at E3 said the unresponsiveness was caused by too many wireless devices used in range of the Wii they were using. When the public was allowed to play the game, everyone at E3 says it worked much better, due to less people using their cell phones and other wireless devices. Oh, and by the way, LK, why would there be voice acting; there never has been before. And if there was, the voice acting would probably not be great, like other games with voice acting (cough, Starfox 64, cough). |

Oh. I didn't know about that. That makes a bit of sense, at least it means it isn't a problem. Makes me that much more excited for the game now. And I don't think voice acting would help the game out, or if it is needed. I mean, it would be interesting to see how it would be handled, but my personal opinion is Zelda doesn't, and probably never will need voice acting. |

I don't think it'll necessarily hurt the game to feature no voice acting, but in my opinion, any triple A game to hit a home console should probably feature voice acting. Especially considering that Zelda features a large amount of text and reading already, it would be awesome if characters would express themselves with real voices instead of walls and walls of text, which gives them somewhat no personality (unless the game has sharp writing). I thought for sure that Nintendo would go all-out with this next Zelda game, but I guess not. Resting on their laurels again. I was already skeptical about Skyward Sword, but now I'm getting very skeptical. I have no doubt that it'll be pretty good, but they needed to do something new and exciting (like they did with Mario and Super Mario Galaxy), but nope—it doesn't look like that's happening. The funny thing is, too, was in an interview with IGN Miyamoto said that he wasn't sure if they were going to hire an orchestra for the music. So... They're just considering it? What console game in 2010 still uses MIDI and ends up being fine? Barely any, I bet. |
