    Iwata on Digital Distribution:

    Quote:

I can’t go into detail on what the plans are today, but of course, with a device like Nintendo 3DS, we do intend to offer some type of digital distribution. What I can say is that if that type of digital distribution is not something that is very new and fresh compared to what we have done with Nintendo DSi, then I think we’re going to have a hard time reaching out beyond the audience that actively seeks out that type of digital content. So up until now, much of the digital distribution focus has been on more of a “pull type” where the consumer goes out, gets the content and pulls it to themselves. With Nintendo 3DS, we’re looking at a model that would be more focused around the “push type,” where we’re able to push information or content out to the device. And with a model like that, what it means is that because the consumer doesn’t have to actively seek out the information themselves, it gives us a venue for creative new ideas of our company or of our developers to reach consumers much more easily. And ideally, if it is possible, we would like to try and find ways to customize that functionality as much as possible to meet our consumers’ tastes. Unfortunately, we can’t go into detail on that today because there’s still a number of questions about the degree to which we’ll be able to do that. But I would like to say that we are thinking seriously about strengthening digital distribution.” – Satoru Iwata

And for those that think all of those screenshots (and movies) of Resident Evil and MGS are prerendered (All of the Capcom games, in fact, use MT Framework - the engine behind RE5, SSFIV, and other Xbox 360/PS3 capcom games):
    Quote:

“Following last week’s announcement that Capcom currently has two titles, Resident Evil: Revelations and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (tentative title), in development for the Nintendo 3DS the first trailer for Resident Evil: Revelations has just been released and is now available for download from our press extranet. Featuring appearances from Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine the trailer is rendered in real time using the game engine.”

    News on 3DS release date
    Quote:

“You know typically, at an E3, our engineers are looking for feedback. You know, we have an army of Nintendo representatives out on our show floor talking to attendees, getting reactions to everything in the device: the depth slider, the buttons, the sliding pad that is, essentially, an analog-type stick. These are things that we’re looking to get reaction to, including the overall button placement. When we get all that feedback, then we’ll finalize the design.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

“Well, the reason we haven’t announced a launch date or pricing is that, first, we wanted to get reaction here. Secondly, we’ll be making individual market decisions in terms of what’s happening in Japan, what’s happening in the Americas, what’s happening in Europe. The one thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

News on the graphics chip used in the 3DS (Not tegra after all.)
    Quote:

DMP 3D Graphics IP core “PICAⓇ 200” is adopted by Nintendo 3DSTM

Digital Media professionals Inc. (HQ: Musashino-shi, Tokyo, CEO: Tatsuo Yamamoto, hereafter DMP) has announced that the DMP 3D Graphics IP “PICA200″ is adopted by Nintendo’s new portable game machine “Nintendo 3DS”

PICA200 features proprietary DMP 3D graphics extensions “Maestro technology”. By hardware implementation of complex shader functionality, these extensions allow the high performance graphics rendering found on existing high-end products to be realized on mobile devices with low power consumption requirements, such as portable game machines.

“We had a very ambitious goal in the realization of naked-eye 3D stereo vision, and video game console style high quality graphics rendering, whilst maintaining low power consumption. I am delighted that we were able to contribute with ‘Maestro technology’, which we have developed over several years at DMP”, said Tatsuo Yamamoto, President and CEO, DMP.

And Anouma on making Zelda's difficulty
    Quote:

“I do not want to make Zelda easier. Easy to me does not equal fun. I want puzzles where people have to think about it, and when they solve the puzzle, there’s that feeling of accomplishment. That’s something that’s really valuable, that concrete feeling that when you accomplish something [in the game], it feels like you’ve done something worth doing. If the game is too easy, the accomplishments aren’t valuable. When Mr. Miyamoto says easy, he doesn’t mean simple. He means easily — this is the difficulty of the language here. It’s accessible, and you know how to do things, if not necessarily what to do. You may have a series of puzzles to figure out, and it may be difficult to decipher the meaning, but it’s not difficult to accomplish what you need to do.”

EDIT HOLY CRAP 3D VIDEO CHAT CONFIRMED
    Quote:

“Technologically speaking, a variety of different things are possible with the 3DS, for example, 3-D video chat.” – Satoru Iwata

“We have just introduced the new ‘Legend of Zelda’ to be launched in 2011, which shows that we are not in a hurry to launch the next generation of home console.” – Satoru Iwata

The source of this information also mentioned that Iwata hinted that a 3DS launch date and price might be coming soon. Additionally, Nintendo may have additional features that will be announced in the near future.

What I find most interesting about that is the fact that it's not possible with the current 3DS design - the two cameras that allow for 3D capturing are on the outside of the device. Maybe it'll have a swiveling screen? That'd be pretty cool.

they had that idea for the dsi , they decided that the joint would be to weak so they put a camera on the outside aswell as the inside instead .

I'm excited for the slew of games coming out for the 3DS.
Kingdom Hearts, Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time!
I have a feeling I'm going to fall in love with this system.
It'll be expensive as hell, though.

I'm guessing 200-230 on the price , I am going to trade in my dsi and some ds games for it , dsi knocks about 100 off , so if all I have left to pay is 100 Id be happy with that :sweatdrop:

    Casual Bowser... oh, the horror!
This E3 was the best E3 for Nintendo that I can remember. Great 1st party games: Mario Kart 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby: Epic Yarn, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kid Icarus, and others. What look like to be fun 3rd party games: Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Sonic Colors, and more. Not to mention the 3DS. E3 was a huge success for Nintendo.

    Simply pure faggotry.
This isn't Donkey Kong Country. This is "What if We made a sequel for Jungle Beat and made it a platformer?" There isn't a hint of K. Rool, let alone any Kremlings. The two hit counter is a needless nitpick, but all in all, this looks like Jungle Beat as a platformer, threw in some KONG letters and Banana coins, and then slapped Country on the title for added bonus.

I'm always down for more info and gameplay trailers, but based on a single E3 trailer (which you shouldn't do) and a mere co-op demonstration this game can get the fuck out.

Quit being so horribly negative. The game hasn't even come out yet, sheesh ... give the developers time. They may surprise you.

Dear God Aegis, stop whining about this.

The only thing remotely similar to Jungle Beat is the art style. The mechanics that defined Jungle Beat, such as combos, the bongo controls, medals and the scoring system are all absent, and the atmosphere is entirely different. The whole point of the game was that it's NOT a platformer, but an action game focused on obtaining high scores and beating times. Try playing a game before making comparisons.

As for Donkey Kong Country Returns itself, it has all the defining features of the Donkey Kong Country titles. It has a map screen, some form of a partner system, co-op, varied level designs, slippery platforming, collectible items and both animal buddies and the other Kong family members are implied to return. It's not a carbon copy of the old Country titles, but when you reboot a franchise with a different developer after an entire decade, changes should be expected.

I can understand the Kremling complaints, but they were only good in the first place because of Rare's style of humor, and haven't been interesting since their appearance in 64. I'm actually thankful that Retro is expanding DK's rouges gallery and working with something entirely new, rather than using a watered down version of previous characters. The Tiki Gang is looking pretty cool anyway, and there's no reason to hate them other than "they aren't what I grew up with."

I'm usually wary of franchise reboots, especially when I grew up with the original games and the game has a new developer, but Returns is looking spectacular. The sheer hatred the fandom is holding towards this game is ridiculous.
