I'm not sure if the 5th generation will be a big success or a huge bust. In the 4th generation, to me it felt like they were running out of ideas for new Pokemon, it seemed like the Pokemon were getting weirder and weirder.

Does anyone know if these will be any better than the last few gens as they have sucked big time.
Then need to go bad to the good old Gen 1 pokes and start again from there
    Gen 1 was so good

A whole bunch of news came out today from various places:

    Spoiler: click to toggle

    Spoiler: click to toggle

    - The white Pokemon is named Chiramii (チラーミィ). It is the Chinchilla Pokemon, a Normal-type. Its abilities are Cute Charm and Technician and it knows a new movie called "Sweep Slap," which hits the opponent multiple times. It is 0.4m tall and 5.8kg in weight.
    - The pink Pokemon is named Mun'na (ムンナ). It is the Dream Eater Pokemon, a Psychic-type, and has Forewarn and Synchronize as its abilities. A new attack it knows is "Telekinesis," which makes the opponent float in the air. It is 0.6m tall and 23.3kg in weight.
    - The mechanical Pokemon below is Gear (ギアル), appropriately titled the Gear Pokemon. It is a Steel-type and its ability is either "Plus" or "Minus." It has a new attack called "Gear Saucer," which you can see it using below - it attacks the opponent multiple times with both of its gears. It is 0.3m tall and weighs 21.0kg.
    - Mamepato (マメパト) is the Baby Pidgeon Pokemon and is a Normal / Flying type. Its abilities are either "Pidgeon Breast" or "Super Luck." In a screenshot below, Mijumaru tries to lower its Defense, but it doesn't work because one of Mamepato's abilities prevents it. It is 0.3m tall and weighs 2.1kg.
    - Hihidaruma (ヒヒダルマ) is the Flaming Pokemon, a Fire-type. Its ability is "Encourage." It is 1.3m tall and weighs 92.9kg.
    - Shimama (シママ) is the Charged Pokemon, an Electric-type, and has Lightningrod or Motor Drive as its abilities. It has a new attack called "Wild Volt," which does a lot of damage but also hurts the user. It is 0.8m tall and 29.8kg.
    - Meguroko (メグロコ) is the Desert Crocodile Pokemon, a Ground / Dark type. Its abilities are Intimidate and "Earthquake Spiral," the latter of which raises its Attack stat when it Knocks Out a Pokemon. It is 0.7m tall and weighs 15.2kg.
    - The professor of Isshu is female and named Professor Araragi, as you can see below. She presents a Chiramii to the player in the "World of Pokemon" intro at the start of the game. The rumors we posted yesterday may also be true too, since Professor Araragi's name was among them (some of the rumors have actually been circulating since April, including her name).
    - There is some sort of new in-game connection device called the C Gear. It has "various connection capabilities," though we do not know what that means at this time. To the left of its screenshot below, the magazine says, "What's this screen!?... It looks like a new wireless feature was added!"
    - There is a new wireless feature called Random Match, which you can access from the Global Terminal inside Pokemon Centers. It will allow players to randomly battle other players around the country over Wi-Fi. It then says "You can upload your Black and White save file to the Internet," though for what purposes we do not know at this time.
I really like the Ground+Dark crocodile Pokemon! But I'm disappointed they didn't add a "light" type, instead the white legendary is Fire+Dragon. Lame. Still though, Electric+Dragon sounds pretty cool. I'm getting White Version probably.

I also disappointed because the world map only shows one big city. The others towns just look like small villages, which is lame. And haven't they figured out that we don't want normal/flying Pokemon anymore? Every damn generation they have normal Pokemon and flying Pokemon that are absolutely useless, and they seem to carry on the trend with the bird Pokemon and that stupid mouse Pokemon. Still though, I'm really psyched for the game.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the Fire fire Monkey or whatever it is looks awesome, same with the Gear Pokemon. Hopefully they both have tremendously badass evolutions!

That crocodile is sexy. And forced levitation? Bad ass. I wonder if they'll add any kind of weight attacks.

Electric + Dragon? Bad ass. Ground weakness sux, but it get's a boost for t-bolt, which is bad ass enough.

Also, Fire Dragon? That's actually a great combo - one of Dragon's hugest problems is how common Ice attacks are - and now it takes normal damage. Sucks that it losses it's water resistance, but it takes normal damage from that now, too.

The normal/flying type is a staple in Pokemon, as is the weak normal in the beginning. However, both Staraptor and Swellow are beasts, so I can only imagine what the Pigeon will turn into. My only complaint is - a Pigeon? Really? Where's my eagle pokemon?

And yeah, that Gear pokemon looks fucking awesome. Not feeling the zebra, unless it turns into Girafarig. Wait, what. Electric Zebra.

I hope that pink thingy turns into an anteater.

Darn, LK beat me to it.

And tittlemouse, click the spoilers in LK's post for pictures of the screenshots. Or check out pokebeach.com's main page.

Small overview time! I love the new professor, especially her hair. They are doing very well in the human department thus far! I absolutely adore Chiramii the chinchilla; it's beyond adorable. The crocodile isn't half bad, and I hope Gear gets an awesome evolution (since it's like Bronzor, who has an awesome evolution). And the bird thing isn't too bad either, guess we gotta have one.

Isshu looks very, very well designed, and personally I'm fine with only one huge city (even so LK, the top right of the map is clouded out by words and whatnot, so you never know).

Oh my god those look awful. The only one that looks good is Shimama. But only because it looks like Girafarig.

I like the looks of the region and the girl professor. (no milf fetish, LG)

Those pokemon look like the creatures they use to PARODY pokemon. Thaaaaat's probably not a good sign.

The professor is female, though... I guess that's pretty cool. Feminism FTW.

Personally I think Chimarii (the white chinchilla) looks like something taken right of the the first generation!

But some interesting new tidbits have surfaced.

Update #12 (11:00 AM): Reshiram is the White Yang Pokemon and has “Turbo Blaze” as its ability while Zekrom is the Black Yin Pokemon and has “Terra Voltage” for its ability. Yep, looks like they’re going for the whole yin-yang thing. Light-type theory FTW! (Especially if that rumor that they change types in battle turns out to be true.) | Update #11 (10:30 AM): Added the remaining pages as well as information on Reshiram and Zekrom’s types and how to obtain Zorua. Check the last three bullet points and the scans below. They show what Isshu looks like.
Yin-Yang theme! Not bad at all I'd say :D

Oh yes, and just because Reshiram isn't light type (at least not normally), doesn't mean there's not going to be a Light type. Look at second gen - they added Steel and Dark, yet Ho-oh and Lugia weren't either. And about that rumor referred to in the quote - It has backing. There are also several other positively delicious rumors with it. Read here -

In related news, rumors have been circulating on Japanese forum 2ch concerning the contents of this month’s CoroCoro magazine. Last month, rumors of the magazine’s contents also circulated a few days before the scans were leaked, and many of them turned out to be true. Current rumors hold that Black and White’s professor is female and named Araragi, that the evil team is named Team Plasma, that there will be triple battles, that there are around 150 new Pokemon, and that the silhouettes of the region’s legendary trio look like cotton, a dog, and a bipedal animal. Remember how we posted the three starter Pokemon’s names before they were ever officially confirmed? The source we used also has this information, so it may turn out to be true. Other completely unconfirmed rumors floating around are that the plot doesn’t involve collecting eight badges, that the main character knows how to excavate ruins, and that the protagonist’s father is an explorer. And according to the interwebz, Reshiram is Ice / Dragon and Zekrom is Electric / Dragon, and the two can change types during battle. Remember, these are obviously just rumors for now, but they are interesting nevertheless! Thanks go to DorianBlack for these translations. We’ll find out the truth within the next few days when scans of the magazine leak, possibly even as early as tomorrow morning

Of course, this was posted before the scans were leaked. Some of it was confirmed false, yet some was confirmed true, so who knows. Perhaps Reshiram and Zekrom can change type, into Fire/Light and Electric/Dark? That would be delicious :>

Also, I am hoping the rumors about how the game won't involve collecting 8 badges turns out to be true. That and the more depth to the main character. Also, 150 new Pokemon would mean... A region populated only by it's own Pokemon?! Lovely, though there'll probably be the mainstays like Pikachu, Zubat, Tentacool, etc. And triple battles will be positively insane; the hidden inner workings of double battles is insane enough.

    Togeshroob is very excited :D

If this game has triple battles, I'll buy both versions. Twice.

Ok, no I won't, but I will get both versions. Double Battles are already teeming with strategy - but triple battles? Holy -

Also, if they add triple battles, I'd imagine some of the pair pokemon (Plusle/Minun, Volbeat/Illimuse, etc) might receive another incarnation. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. I'm still hoping for a Heracross/Pinser evoultion. (As if Heracross wasn't beast enough.)

I'm really liking how this is turning out. I read about the Ying-Yang theme earlier on Serebii - that's actually pretty cool. Changing types is cool too -as long as it isn't a real type change. Rotom's is decent, but leaves much to be desired, and the way Arceus does it is a pain in the ass. Porygon's conversion and Keckleon's color change is nigh perfect.

As far as not liking the way the pokemon look - lol k. They're creatures. That's like looking at an aardvark and saying - you know what? God/Nature/(whatever you believe) fucked up on this one. Look's totally stupid. Needs a different color. It's a creature - they aren't all supposed to look attractive. If they all did, you'd all be saying "ugh. Looks too cute.", and if they all looked "cool" you'd all go "ugh. Look's too japanese / main stream / fake." It's just the way shit works.

Just asking for more imagination. Gorilla on crack and Starly/Honchkrow fusion is not very imaginative. But that's just my view.

Oh haha I know. I wasn't talking about you specifically.

But as far as imagination goes - if you look at most pre evolved pokemon, they're all a bit smaller and not very unqiue, like most things in our world. (Babies, animals, etc.) It's when they evolve that they look more bad ass.

Shroomish to Breloom is a perfect example.

Ah, Ice, I say this everytime, but you always put things so well :>

I must add a bit. I positively detest fanhate. Not really liking this as much as that, I'm fine with. However, I hate it when, with Pokemon, people complain "ew these don't look like pogeymanz at all!!!1" "ugh all these new onez are so dumb and uncreative," or something silly and stupid like that. What's a Pokemon supposed to look like? The only thing you can really say to describe Pokemon overall is 'silly,' which just about every Pokemon (excluding most legends and such) fits to a T.

You first gen fanboys complain that everything past 2nd gen is lame/uncreative/don't-look-like-Pokemon. You say this only because you grew up with them. Take a good, good, long, open-minded look at the first gen Pokedex. I'll give a few of many many examples -

Magnemite and Magneton - creativity? Try repetition.
Doduo and Dodrio - creativity? Again, repetition.
Diglet and Dugtrio - creativity? see above
Koffing and Weezing - creativity? ^^^^^^
Grimer and Muk - creativity? ^^^^^^
Voltorb and Electrode - creativity? lolol
Nidoran(M), Nidorino, Nidoking and Nidoran(F), Nidorina, Nidoqueen - creativity? the biggest example of repetition
Mew and Mewtwo (in concept) - creativity? no

Ooh, that's 20 right there that are basically the same thing as their evos/counterparts! But let's continue a bit.

Ekans - oh yeah, let's take a generic snake design, dumb it down a bit and call it a Pokemon! Name? Brilliant, spell snake backwards! And cobra for it's evoltion!
Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff/Clefairy and Clefable - why does no one complain about this?
Geodude - a small rock with arms. Yup. Evolutions are bigger with legs.
    Drowzee and Hypno - pedophiles
Tangela - must I elaborate? A random ball of vines with eyes poking out. Real creative!
Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot - how are these better than the Starly line? oh yeah you grew up with them
Meowth - how is this better than Glameow?
Ratatta - mmkay, generic rat design check
Mr. Mime - just plain dumb; and people complain about 5th gen water starter looking like a clown
Ditto - sure, good concept, but you're not about to tell me it's anything other than a pile of pink goo with eyes
Grimer and Muk - ditto as Ditto, minus the good concept of course. Spell Muk backwards
Exeggcute - five small eggs with eyes. It doesn't even make sense.
Exeggutor - palm tree with legs and coconut faces

Good examples. One thing I've noticed with first gen is that a whole bunch of Pokemon are basically circles with body parts. Let me demonstrate - Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Tangela, Mankey, Primape, Venonat, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Voltorb, Electrode, Gastly, Chansey (more like an egg, but still), Oddish, Gloom, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Kabuto. That's quite a few!

Now let's do second gen! Don't worry, I'll make this one real quick ;D

Second gen should be known for adding the most useless and obscure Pokemon in the franchise. There were many. Piloswine, Gligar, Dunsparce (particularly), Octillery, Mantine, Jumpluff, Ledian, Smeargle, Delibird, Quagsire, Xatu (um), to name a few, not to mention the prevos of those.

Which brings up something else. Prevos. Babies. Why on earth are they needed? What purpose do they serve? They are cute... Anything else? What that now about you thinking a lot of recent Pokemon are just useless Pokedex fillers? We got Igglybuff, pointless, Cleffa, pointless, Elekid, pointless, Magby, pointless, Pichu, pointless, etc.

    ------------

Now, you can go ahead and give me all those newer Pokemon you love to hate, I don't care. I'm not trying to argue that they are creative, I'm just saying you're not going to tell me that the older gens were any more creative. If anything, the newer games are more creative - they just get the blame because they came last.

Another example of this would be with Zelda, particularly OoT vs. TP and the general anything-that-is-not-OoT-is-bad attitude.

    I am done :>

EDIT - added Grimer and Muk to the repetitive list. That's 20 now!

I absolutely love that little pigeon Pokemon. It will probably be one of those Pokemon you find on the first route, which means it might have some bad-ass evolutions.
