The grass pokemon looks completely bad ass, and the water one looks appropriate. Not really digging the fire one, though, and I'm a little worried as to what his last evolution will look like. The trainers look way cooler, too. Edit There's a rumor going around that the typing of the pokemon is: grass/fighting fire/dark water/psychic Which would mean type mashing galore. And no new mash ups, either. We already have those typings, in Breloom (Grass/Fighting), Houndoom (fire/dark) and Slowking (Water/Psychic). In fact, out of that whole list, I think the only typing we don't have is Fire/Psychic, which would be pretty bad ass. Grass/Dark --Shiftry Grass/Fighting --Breloom Grass/Psychic --Exeggutor Fire/Dark --Houndoom Fire/Fighting --Combusken/Blaziken Water/Dark --Sharpedo Water/Fighting --Poliwrath Water Psychic --Slowking I think that, as long as they keep the primary typing in the classic triangle (fire/water/grass), then the secondary typing can be anything. To that effect, I'd personally like to see Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dragon, and Water/Ghost. Or, Grass/Ghost, (Or Grass/Electric) Fire/Dragon, (Or Fire/Electric) and Water/??? (maybe a new type? Water's been paired up with EVERY typing other than Ghost and Fire.) Or, hell, just leave them pure fire, water, and grass. We haven't had one of those since the second season. (Though, with the recent release of HG/SS, I doubt they'd do that.) I'd be more interested in pairing off the old types than introducing new ones, but I do hope they do both. Yup, those look like starting Pokemanz alright. The water starter looks like an Ice type, so I'm calling it now: the final evolution will be Water/Ice. But yeah, the Grass type looks like it could very well be fighting, and the fire looks like it could be dark. EDIT: I'm glad that the new region will have actual skyscrapers and stuff. Maybe cities will actually be cities this time? Also glad that the trainers you play as are older instead of being 10 year old kids. Edited by LK, May 12 2010, 10:54 AM.

ok, I changed my mind, the grass one are awesome! This might be a cool generation if we get Pokemons as rad as these. Also, digging the fact of older Poketrainers! Loving the design on the girl! I think I'm going to be very found of these games <3 ...but, does that mean that Ash (from the anime) will grow too? o.O |

Dude, I love these so much that I cannot find the words. I am most likely going with fire this time around, look how cute that pig thing is, I can't stand it. I also like the new trainer designs, but I think the girl is using way to much hair spray. |

Argh... Look at those towns in that scan... Those better not be "small towns" or something ridiculous. I want cities dammit! And the girl looks fine. Actually, she's the best looking female protagonist so far. |

Don't you agree, Zach?

Not too fond of the starters yet. Hopefully they'll grow on me like Togeshroob said. I'll probably go with grass type unless the evolutions change my mind. Also, the male trainer looks alright, but I don't care for the female trainer. |

My theory is still that these games take place in the past(ish), or at least that this region is isolated and behind the times or something. The girl's crazy 80's-looking hair is yet another sliver of evidence to back this ;p But I completely agree with LK; this is the best female protagonist as of yet. And I really like the male as well, no more beret and/or scarf :> And LK, from the train tracks and house-style in that one screenshot, I think that's supposed to be a small town. There still is the big city that was shown. Anyhow, I know already that I'm going to go with the Grass starter. For one, that's what I always go with (it's always my favorite for some reason), and two I like it the best, of course. And I hope that Trickery move in Ice's post turns out to be true, that'd be a great move competitively. EDIT - Ice, with the secondary types being Psychic/Dark/Fighting, I'm pretty sure it would be for the purpose of a backwards type cycle. Everyone knows the super-effectiveness cycle of Grass, Water, and Fire, but imagine this - Grass is given Psychic, while Fire is given Fighting. Fire is effective against Grass of course, but now you have a backwards effectiveness with the secondary attacks. The Psychic of the Grass is effective against the Fighting of the Fire, and so on. An interesting twist, I think, even if these type combos have been done before. EDIT #2 - Lizzy, I read that they have officially begun making the anime for the 5th gen, so I dunno what'll happen with Ash... He acts 15ish now anyway, I guess, even if he's never officially aged. But something interesting to note about the anime now -The next and last season of Sinnoh (which is not yet finished in Japan) was announced for U.S., titled 'Sinnoh League Victors.' Victors. Could this be suggesting Ash finally acheives his goal? Not necessarily, but still, that just might be the case. This means they could start the fifth gen with a new character? Yeah, but the proposed combination is Grass/Fighting, Fire/Dark, and Water/Psychic, which would still work, and it would be way better than Grass/Psychic and Fire/Fighting - we've already had two fire fighting types, and while we have Breloom, we haven't had a fighting/grass type as a starter. Or Dark and Psychic in the starter roster, which is cool. And I really do like the girl's design. I love her hair. |

Um, I think that these are the most modern looking protagonists to date. I don't remember people all wearing jean short shorts in the 80s. Now if she had sweatbands and spandex then I would agree with you.
Besides them taking place in (almost) the same universe, the anime, manga, and games are all separate from one another on many, many levels. Edited by Unsound M, May 12 2010, 08:08 PM.

That fire Pokemon looks like something I'd stick an apple through and cook over the fire. Grass Pokemon looks mysterious & awesome while Water Pokemon looks like we've seen this approach before. Playable trainers look good too. |

Well both the anime and manga (anime more so) are based from the games; any large changes incorporated in the games is usually reflected into the anime in some way to keep up with hype and fan-keeping. All the anime really is is promotion for the games, this much was said by the creator of Pokemon himself (in a bit different way of course, but that's the gist), which is why the anime always conincides with what's going on game-release wise. But yep, that doesn't necessarily mean a change in the anime. However, the trainers being older brings up something interesting. People have always been allowed to become a legal Pokemon trainer the day they turn 10, yet these for 5th gen are older than that and (seemingly) just getting started. Something is different now; either with the way things are run, the characters themselves, or who knows what. |

The remaining pages have been leaked, giving a bit more information and confirming several things. Here is the news story with the new screenshots and info. The main delicious piece of news is things about the city. It is apparently the central point of Isshu, called Huin (which, according to Pokebeach (who has the best translators), means 'misfortune' and 'bad luck,' but also can mean 'clouds being blown by the wind.' Very interesting). Here are the pages of Huin City - ![]() Sorry if that causes any lagging. Also excuse the blurriness, these are pictures taken with a phone camera. LK, from the looks of those beautiful screenshots, your city dream has come true, even if it's only Huin City :> But notice how the city seems to be surrounded by water, with docks branching from it on the visible sides? This is supposed to be the central point of Isshu, so could this mean we might have a region separated into separate parts (probably 2) by an ocean? Maybe some gyms on one side, some on the other, that would be wonderful :D Hey, I just noticed a huge bridge on the far right of the second page. Looks like it connects to a mainland ;D |
