And MSN Live isn't all that bad, although it's a bit of a resource hog. The only problem with using all-in-one clients like Pidgin/Trillian/Miranda/etc is that they don't have all the features that the official client does, like I'll have problems using file sharing or if Ice wants to play me at Chinese Checkers, he can't - not like that ever really happens.

Yeah so true. AIM 5.9 was very...simplistic? But it did the job well. Not a resource-hog like AIM 6.0. 6.0 was just laden with unnecessary stuff. I do remember liking the MSN Messenger interface, for some reason. Also true on what you said on all-in-one clients. For one, anybody who tries sending me those drawn messages in MSN is poop out of luck. I just usually tell people to Skype me if they want to video chatz or whatnot.
