What album first got you into metal? I used to listen to Top 40 pop and crap rock bands like Nickelback back in middle school, but it all changed when I was looking at the CD's at my local library and found an interestingly titled album called "Toxicity" by a band I had never heard of before.

I was blown away. System of a Down's landmark album was full of so much awesome; memorable riffs, sophisticated bass and drum lines, and incredible vocals. It made me look at the groups and artists I listened to at that time with disdain, and to this day forward, I listen to quality music. I'm by no means a metalhead (I listen to everything from Slayer to Beck to Pearl Jam) but metal is one of my preferred genres now.

Funnily enough, System were my first 'metal' band too, and Toxicity was the album that got me into them. Although I don't consider metal to be my favourite genre, I still think it's fucking good.

Hm, probably listening to old Metallica. Gradually went to heavier stuff. But Iron Maiden is my favorite band.

Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast. It's probably the most mainstream Maiden album, but the stuff in it is great.

SOAD's pretty great, it's like a faster-paced/crazier version of Rage Against the Machine, firing political messages one after another.

    Burst link!

Metallica's Master of Puppets. I found in my dad's truck and put it in and Battery's transition scared the shit out of me, but I liked it.

All That Remains' album 'The Fall of Ideals', probably. I haven't been into metal for more than a few years because I was mostly into lighter types of rock (and before that, rap).

Oh man, I was listening to Battery when I was washing the dishes. My mom was like "wow what are you listening to? That's a nice intro"

And then went into the transition, and she went "Ohhhhhh..."

    Hilarious.

Good album is so great. Their best work so far I've heard (I only have that, This Darkened Heart, and Behind Silence and Solitude.)

Limp bizkit were what started me down that road, but the first album I really loved was "The Poison" by bullet for my valentine.

Funny, since your username is Rush

Have you heard Cradle of Filth's cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name? Dare I say, better than the Maiden original

I'm listening to it right now...I really do prefer Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live). Could be anything, as long as it's not the original not-live performance.

Some songs are just meant for live for some reason. See Fear of the Dark.

Agreed. One of my favorite songs (Killing in the Name)sounds better live, and packs more of a punch vocally and musically
