I don't think it will end, to be honest. At least, in the same sense that Mario hasn't ended or Zelda hasn't ended despite the move form 2D to 3D being the only major changes in the series since they started.

One problem with Pokemon that you stated is eventually the amount of Pokemon is going to be ridiculous. 500 is already a stupid number of things to collect, especially since half of them can't even be found in your game. Maybe they can do the Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire approach and just pick and choose which Pokemon to use, and which to leave out for the sake of sanity.

I hope they can keep things fresh by adding new gameplay elements. There's a lot of potential.

They will soon if they keep coming with dumb crap like "Bidoof"

As long they have ideas they can keep going.
Wow that Pokemon is so cheap : /

I was only interested in Pokemon when there was Pokemon Stadium. I haven't had anything to do with Pokemon for several years now.

The series may be lasting a little longer than expected with the upcoming release of HeartGold/Soul Silver.
Depending on how much money they make (and it will make money. It's pokemon for Christ's sake), then it could go on for another 20 years or end within five years.

But I have a feeling HG/SS will sell more than some of it predessors

It will end when Nintendo stops making wonderful profit off of it.

Each Pokemon region is actually a section of Japan, I imagine when all of Japan has a Pokemon region, then the series wil end. Or they'll go on a global conquest to expand the empire in order to add more Pokemon regions. :)

Honesty, I think it could last forever. I remember liking all of them...except I skipped Saphire and Ruby. As long as they keep making new adventures it's going to keep living. As long as they don't make new stupid pokemon and new stupid evolutions.

To be honest, I think its getting old.
theres too much pokemon now, and theyll never be as good as the originals.
but as you guys where saying,,if theres a demand, theyll never stop. I just think a few new ideas should be introduced at this stage....
I liked the way in pokemon platinum they had the whole 3D thing going on, but maybe take it that much further..enough with the upgrades in quality basically and upgrade the storyline! :)

It's never going to end. As long as Nintendo is in business, the company will continue to produce pokemon games. They sell far too much to be even considered nearing it's end.

    the idea is old!

    Hotel Dusk 2 for Ds?

Well... I don't play any of them anymore, but I honestly hope they never go away. I grew up with my little gameboy, playing Pokemon Silver constantly. It honestly influenced my life more than any person. I liked Haunter, Houndour, my favorites were the Dark/Ghost/Psychic. And now to this day I like Ganondorf, Bowser, Wario, because I always liked the "Bad guys." That's why I went Horde when I played WoW, althought I don't play anymore, I can't and talk to my GF on MSN at the same time XD . So I made the smart choice and quit WoW.
    He's Monthly Subscription's bitch!
