Fable II: Knothole Island DLC![]() Developer: Lionhead Studios Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios Release Date: January 13th, 2009 Genre: RPG Platform: Xbox 360 Rating: M - Mature Fable II was a great game, and though the main story is short, the other aspects of the game like managing your properties and doing the rest of the sidequests made the game a longer experience then it may first seem. Lionhead Studios were going to put out the Knothole Island Downloadable Content Pack early in Fable II’s life cycle, but ended up delaying it until early 2009. Luckily for me, when the pack first came out, I was just getting into the main Fable II game, so it was almost a perfect time to release the pack. After a significant time with Knothole Island, it may to be too much money for the lack of content you get in exchange. Knothole Island is 800 Microsoft Points, which is equal to ten American dollars. This may not seem like a huge deal, but the main quest of Knothole Island is just as long as a side quest in the main game, which is usually around a half-hour of game time; terribly short. What you get is a quest on your quest menu, and from Bowerstone Market, you take a Submarine to Knothole Island. From there, you’re given a quest to make Knothole Island warm again, since they’ve been freezing their asses off for quite some time. The quest has you go to 3 mini-dungeons that take around 10 minutes each, with each dungeon changing the island to a new season: Summer (boiling hot), Spring (pouring rain), or Winter (freezing cold). When ever you switch the island from one season to the next, the entire island changes its look entirely. When it’s winter, the giant lake that separates each side of the town is frozen over, and you can walk on it perfectly fine, but when it’s summer, the whole lake is dried out. You can actually visually see the difference between the different areas as well. When it’s summer, you can see heat distortion around every corner signifying that it’s very hot outside, then when it’s spring, the island has rain pouring down from the sky. When you complete the quest, you can change the island to which ever season you like best, which is pretty cool. Though Knothole Island’s quest is ridiculously short, it does have some pretty neat things here and there. Say you lost one of the things you loved in the main game, you can get it back in Knothole Island, but there’s no indication of this at any point during the short adventure. You can also find 10 books that detail the history of Knothole Island, and getting all of them get you a 25 point achievement; all of which are simply to find. Knothole Island as a area of Fable II isn’t very big either. There’s a mini town where the pier is, that has a couple of shops, and a couple of houses; all of which are for sale to buy. The shops are unique though, you can only get certain items in each one, like weight loss/gain potions, and other potions that make you taller, or shorter. The Box of Secrets shop is a store that has you trading items instead of buying them with currency. Only a small amount of items are available when you first start, but after the quest is complete, all of them are available to obtain. You get some pretty cool items that only can be found in Knothole Island, like a guitar-shaped sword, but you probably will never use most of them. Other than the said features of Knothole Island, there isn’t much else. Sure, there’s a bunch of books to collect, and 3 achievements adding 100 more points, but all of this, plus a short 30-minute side quest is not worth ten dollars. There’s no new enemies, no new weapons that you’ll end up using, and no new cool plot points. If you’re looking to spend your money on something for your game, then Knothole Island is not a good choice to spend your money on. If you’re a huge fan of Fable, then sure, go ahead and purchase it, but like said before, you definitely do not get enough content out of Knothole Island to signify the $10 price tag.

I got this more or less on release and I have to agree, it was a big disappointment. I welcome any new achievements, but having to pay for a very very small map with not much to do with my character more or less maxed out in stats was to be honest, boring, because it was too easy. Good review as always LK. |
