    Get in.

I don't have a 360 so I probably won't enjoy it with those controls. Is there a difference?

    LK’s Top 10 Games of 2008

    1) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

    Posted Image

    Genre: Action Adventure
    System(s): PlayStation 3
    Publisher: Konami
    Developer: Konami Productions
    Release Date: June 12th, 2008

    I gave it: 9.8 | They gave it: 94

Why?: Before Metal Gear Solid 4, the Metal Gear Solid franchise was getting a bit stale. By the time of MGS3: Snake Eater, people were getting fed up with the camera, they were getting tired of the dated combat, and the series was getting more and more confusing as time went on. Metal Gear Solid 4 finally tied up most of the loose ends the other games left behind, especially the Sons of Liberty stuff, and still ended up being a fantastic game despite the game’s main draw. And that’s the main reason why Metal Gear Solid 4 is easily the best game of 2008, it mixed flawless gameplay that is finally brought into the modern era with enhanced controls, and fluid chapters.

    War. Has. Changed.

Metal Gear Solid pushed the PS3 to almost an unreachable limit; the game was long, the cutscenes were life-like, the the entire game is one of the best looking games ever. You could play the game as a shooter, shooting every enemy in your way, or you can go through it classically, trying not to get alerted by enemies. The story finally came to a close in an epic fashion that probably couldn’t have been any better. Guns of the Patriots is exactly what the Metal Gear Solid franchise needed to close it out, and the result is nothing more than absolutely mesmerizingly fantastic. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots should easily go down as one of the very best games ever created, and is my favorite game of 2008.

    Honorable Mentions:

    Gears of War 2 (X360)

    Posted Image

    I gave it: 9.3 | They gave it: 93

Why Not?: Gears of War 2 was an awesome sequel to one of my favorite games of 2006. It was however, a disappointment in many respects, making it unworthy of a spot in the top ten. It had a better story than the first, but the way you went through the missions in the campaign was really confusing, and was ended by one of the easiest boss fights of all time. The online modes were sometimes better, but mostly worst. It may sound like I’m trashing the game quite a bit, but it was still an amazing game. The soundtrack was spectacular once again, and the visuals are still some of the best ever. Though it’s not one of the top 10 games of 2008, every Xbox 360 owner should still pick this one up ASAP.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

    Posted Image

    I gave it: 9.1 | They gave it: 93

Why Not?: Nintendo’s biggest title of the year just fell short of the top 10 lists for a long list of reasons. The biggest reason was because it was a major disappointment overall. It had a great cast of characters, as well as many different modes to play, but the fact that they took out lots of gameplay elements that made Melee so great ruined the competitive aspect. The WiFi connectivity was also lacking with games taking forever to load, and the games being ridiculously laggy. Brawl wasn’t horrible though, not even close actually. Brawl did a lot of things right, like the amazing soundtrack. Some may argue that it’s a compilation soundtrack so it shouldn’t count, but it’s still one of its pluses. It’s also still fun to play, which that alone is one of the reasons to play it. It’s a Smash Bros. game at heart, but it wasn’t even close to what I was expecting.

    Okami (Wii)

    Posted Image

    I gave it: 9.2 | They gave it: 90

Why Not?: I was never a really huge Okami fan when I read that it was coming to the Wii, but after the PS2 version of the game got a near perfect score on Famitu (39/40) and winning IGN’s 2006 game of the year, I knew that I had to try it when it got to the Wii. As I quickly found out, Okami is a must have, on the PS2 or the Wii, it’s just simply amazing. The game has amazing cel-shaded graphics that looks like a painting come to life, as well as the gameplay elements that put the Legend of Zelda series on the map. Okami would have easily been in the top 5 if it wasn’t for the fact that the game is a port of the PS2 game that came out in 2006. Okami is no doubt a masterpiece, but for that reason alone it will only stay in the Honorable Mentions category of 2008.

MGS was fantastic. I loved the look of it and I'm upset that the only thing stopping me from buying it was the age rating.

Wow is this a Nintendo forum or an Xbox forum?

Anyways, liked most of these games, but none were super original except for Dead Space.

Are you kidding? Dead Space is the most non-original game on my list.
