I know the first two are easy, but they take a while without writing a program. Well, just the first one, actually. The second took me about 5 minutes without the program I wrote. With it, it took about half a second.

Well what length would a problem have to be to be considered hard in my opinion it has nothing to do with length. But i am sorry about not noticing the program part again.

Ugh, do you really have nothing better to do than add up all the numbers that are multiples of 3 or 5 under 1000? I know the Fibonacci one is easy, but yeah, the whole point of the site is to teach people math and programming skills. And I'm sorry, but how did you miss the whole programming half when the name of the topic is "Do you like math and/or programming?".

I looked at the first ten or so and they don't look to bad, perhaps being a engineering major helps with that :P anyways, awesome site.

I would bet they do =]. But yeah, I've gotten a total of 4 done, and I think I've worked out how to do a 5th. However, my calculator isn't anywhere near powerful enough to figure out many more problems, so my friend suggested Python. Does anybody have any experience with this language?

I know very little of it. I was just planning on using c++ for some of these.

Yeah, I was planning on using this as an entry into C++, because I'd really like to learn that language, but my one friend recommended against it because of the complexity of the language. I might actually use LabView, which I can probably get for free and keep it until January 2010, so I dunno...

I wouldn't say c++ is really bad for an entry level programming language, but starting out learning like java or python would definitely be easier.

Alright, thanks. I'll look one or both up this weekend, or whenever I have a bit of free time. Maybe over Christmas break, I'll sit down and learn one or the other.

I would recommend learning java over Python because Java can run on any platfor, though I believe python can too, however a lot more people use Java and a lot of programing languages are based off of java so it would make them easier to learn as well. Though maybe python is that way too, I can't say as I never learned more than a tiny bit of it.

Cool, thanks for the help. I'll check it out over the weekend or something. Is there anything I should do before I learn Java to make it easier?

no not really anything I can think of, I'll look around and see if I can find a good site to learn Java from and send you a pm if I find one though.

also if anyone wanted to see how the first problem would look in c++ here it is.

    Problem 1:
If we list all the natural numbers below 10 that are multiples of 3 or 5, we get 3, 5, 6 and 9. The sum of these multiples is 23.

Find the sum of all the multiples of 3 or 5 below 1000.

Don't worry about that, McLaren. My friend showed me a good site that has tutorials for HTML, PHP, Java, and a couple other languages, so I'll just go there. But, hey, if anyone wants to see how my solutions look in TI-BASIC, I'd be happy to type those up. If anyone knows what that even is... =].

Hey, McLaren, I had some problems downloading the JDK, so I decided I'm going to learn C++ instead. Do you know anywhere I can download a compiler, or is there one already on my computer?
