I posted this review ages ago and it got deleted due to the ZB crash. I edited it a bit, but other than that all old stuff. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Review Written by Koopa Klaus Published By: Ubisoft Developed By: Ubisoft Montreal Genre: First-Person Shooter Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC The sequel to Rainbow Six Vegas is more or less the rest of the first game. You are pretty much buying a sprint button and a hand-full of missions. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. People who have played Vegas know how troublesome it was not to have a sprint button. Other then that most people enjoyed the game. If you were one of those people, or you are a new comer to the franchise, then you will definitely enjoy this game. Unless of course you hate tactical FPS games or “slow” paced games. This is a game where strategy is key to survival. You can not go all “Call of Duty 4 or Halo” on their ass. You have to have patience and use cover. Trust me on this, you will either love or hate this game. I have a few complaints that I will try and spread out through this review. Such as how dumb you team can get. The A.I. is great, but not the best. Your team A.I. is a notch above the enemy A.I., but that isn’t saying much. Most of the team your team functions quite well and they help you not waste as much ammo. Some of my experiences in the game involved the team rappelling from a roof top and going the opposite direction in which they were ordered. The enemy A.I. is a notch down from your team. They can get pretty dumb. It might sound like I am bashing the A.I., but I am not. It isn’t much of an improvement from Vegas 1 though. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 takes place in Vegas(naturally), but is it not strange that you start in France? To avoid spoilers I am also going to state it doesn’t end in Vegas either. This totally violates the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Anyway, the main character’s name is Bishop. You are free to customize how He/She looks like and wears. I will get more into the customization later. Anyway you start out in France in this research facility. A group of terrorists have taken over and you are required to stop them. You control Bravo team (which includes Logan and Gabriel from the original Vegas) and this other commander controls Alpha. You then go through the facility taking out terrorists until finally you come across a bomb. You order Gabriel to disarm it, and then out of no where a group of terrorists attack Gabriel. He falls to the ground and you and Logan have to take out a few terrorists then Alpha team rescues Gabe. Can we go to Vegas now? In five years, sure you can. From there on out you and your group is like a bomb squad. Wherever you go there is a bomb, fascinating right? After the story progresses it gets a little neater. I didn’t figure out what was going on until my second play-through. Would subtitles really hurt Ubisoft? Gameplay in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is like any other first person shooter. You shoot, you take cover, you do a certain objective, and so on. I actually love how this game plays out. You also have dozens of features that aren’t available to other FPSs such as rappelling off of buildings. I felt like fucking Spiderman swinging down a building inverted. Now I am going to cover the character customization here. Many games of today lack one major thing. That is Character Customization. Personally I love customizing my character and playing it out through a course of the game. Hell, even different clothing from your default ones is nice. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 takes it to a whole new level. If you are familiar with the first game you can only customize during online play. In this sequel you can customize anywhere. You can choose your weapons, armor, and clothing. You can even have a different color of camouflage for each piece of armor if you like. You unlock armor, clothing, and weapons as you progress through the game. You may also add attachments to your guns such as different kinds of scopes and laser pointers. There is a giant selection in this game and plenty of different combinations to choose from. Getting the items can be boring once you get to a certain point in which it takes like an hour to level up, but that doesn’t stop the fun. Graphics-wise, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 does not deliver but passes. I see almost no difference from the first game’s graphics. Like I said it is pretty much the rest of the first game. They are not terribly bad graphics, just not all fancy like other video games in high definition and such. Although it does have its on charm to it, there is plenty of room for improvement. It made me cringe though when a bomb went off and a giant fire was started, yet the fire was just frozen in time. I haven’t seen a “natural” fire like that be frozen still like that. It was hardly noticeable if glanced at, but it is still pretty bad either way. All in all, I think they could a better job in the graphics department. This is a great example where graphics don’t make the game though. This pretty much rounds of my review. A few things I missed were Replay Value. This game is pretty much Replay Value all on its own. I am still playing through the story as I type this. It sure is addicting. Getting all the ranks and weapons take a good few weeks to complete legit. It gets quite tedious unlocking everything though… I don’t have Xbox Live but I can guarantee that it is just as kick ass there as it is single player. Also I have to mention the sound effects. They are pretty decent actually, no problems with me. Guns sounds somewhat realistic, etc. If you have the chance to buy this game, rent it first. Where the Rainbow Six crew is off next, no one knows… Final Rating: 3.5/5 I hope you enjoyed this review and don’t forget to comment! Edited by Koopa Klaus, Dec 1 2008, 05:53 PM.
