Game sites rate games more on how well the game was actually made than how fun the game is. They also rate mostly on if there is anything new to the game. Sometimes I don't care for any extra shit or more complicated battle system in rpgs where it comes to the point that you have to learn how to play the game tutorial after tutorial where it is too much work to play the game, it takes the fun out of it. This is not to say about all games or that I don't like anything new or that I only like simple games, it depends. I just think that just cause a game doesn't have something drastically new in the game it shouldn't get a low score or poor review because of it.
There are so many good or even great games that get low ratings it's unbelievable.
And there are games like Twilight Princess that get high scores when the game didn't deserve it. Final Fantasy 12 is one of those.

I don't go by reviews or scores at all anymore.

    Next stop, the Twilight Zone
I agree with you on games getting low scores because of nothing drastically new. However I do use reviews to help me decide to buy something or not.

I disagree on Twilight Princess though. I thought it was amazing. Kind of easy, but amazing

    Don't you agree, Zach?

I see where you're coming from. I read the reviews and scores and take them into consideration. I pay attention to the the reviews say about the aspects of a game that I care about. I don't decide whether or not I want to buy a game solely based on a review, but I do use the scores/reviews to help influence my decision.

Foremost is the chromatic substance accomplishment to Picklegod! Pickle contributes to all parts of the forum, stays astir, and mostly is awful to everyone he meets. A wonderful, intelligent somebody, Pickle testament now better us with every day NF decisions. Approval Picklgod!

The concept of reviews are technically flawed because the persons opinion can be fairly different from yours. Unless you can find a reviewer with a similar game opinion as you, then reviews only taint your thoughts on a game.

That's why there's only two sets of reviewers I trust now...xD

    NOT BACK
It depends, honestly. If the general consensus says "THIS GAME IS CRAP", it usually is. I use things like Metacritic and Joystiq's metareview/negareview (a summary of all the reviews and all the negative things said to the game, respectively).

But when game review scores gets people fired, that's one thing. Ahem.

    Roar.
I usually don't care about what others say, unless they have the same game opinions as me.
IMO, Gamespot reviews are usually crap. (From what I can say.)
