    Developer: Vicarious Visions
    Publishers: RedOctane, Activision
    Platform: Nintendo DS
    Genre: Music
    Rating: E10+
Release Dates: NA: June 22, 2008
    EU: July 17, 2008
    AUS: June 26, 2008

This has got to be good...
Guitar Hero for the DS. Who knew the day would come?! I read an issue of Nintendo Power a few days ago at the library and I was very, very surprised, yet eager! So I decided to do some research on this game.

I would have never expected to see a Guitar Hero for DS... at least, not this early...
This game might turn out to be a complete disaster, or possibly just might be one of the greatest DS games released in a long time.

Unfortunately, I think this game will have a bit of a problem at first...
One being size. Isn't Guitar Hero meant to be played on a Guitar...? But that's not my point. It might feel awkward holding it at first, but I am sure people will get used to the grip.
I sure hope the game will be what they want it to be...!

The controls might sound simple, but I'm sure we will have to play quite some time before we get completely used to them. Another thing, you must be wondering "how will we be hitting the notes?" or "What is the grip you are talking about?" Well, maybe this will help...

A "Guitar Grip" will be provided. It is a four-fret adapter that will be used as an attachment into the GBA slot. There will be a wrist strap provided along with the adapter.

    The graphics...

From what I've seen, they look great on the DS. I don't think graphics were a big focus in the making. I believe most people look at the notes when they are playing, not your character rocking out in the background.

As for the amount of songs... not too many, but enough. As long as it keeps the players occupied, it's fine. Over 20 licensed songs and over 25 licensed soundtracks are provided.
    Some tracks such as...

    Spiderwebs - No Doubt
All the Small Things - Blink-182
Do What You Want - OK Go
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister

I believe one Nirvana song will be playable. Not sure which one, though.

From what I've read and heard, the touch screen will be used to strum.
When you come across a long note, you can use the touch screen for using the whammy effect. The way this works is by moving your stylus or thumb across the touch screen.

Here's what I found interesting though... Star Power.
We all know what Star Power is and how it works, right?
On the DS, it's a bit unique. Once you have Star Power ready to go, yell "Rock Out" into the DS microphone. Haha, yes I know it's a bit corny. Deal with it. :P

The game comes with its own guitar pick-shaped stylus, used for strumming with your free hand.
Of course there will be a Career Mode. The game will allow you to choose from six different characters. Who knows, maybe some characters will be returning from previous games...
Anyway, the further you get into career mode, you will unlock more options for your characters appearence.

You can play the game through wireless for two player co-op mode and competitive play. Competitive play is similar to Guitar Hero III's Battle Mode. Too bad there is no wi-fi, at least, not that I know of...

Competitive Play is basically a game mode in which one player can create a distraction for a short period of time for the other player by successfully hitting certain notes of the song. The distractions in this game can be removed with unique ways, one of them being having to blow in your DS mic to put out virtual flames on their guitar.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is compatible with the DS Lite and the original DS.

Try not to break your DS if you get frustrated, it's not a guitar. ;)

Yeah, from what I know about it.
    Sorry, is that a problem?
I'll remove my rating if it makes you happier.

Are you just guessing that or is that the goal of this product? The other Guitar Hero's definitely weren't suitable for kids only because of the major...hitting of notes and shit. If this is anything like the cell phone game of Guitar Hero, it most likely will be for kids.

Part of the fun was holding a plastic guitar. The add-on sort of defeats the point if you get me.

    NOT BACK
I fear that left-handed people may have problems playing this.
Also, 4 frets is the lose. I understand it's for the size of the thing overall, but the difficulty level looks like it's gonna be a bit easy.

The soundtrack is pretty large IMO, if you mean there's 45 songs in the game. Games like Osu!/EBA contains only about 15-20 songs. Then again, they have the storyboards...but still.

I'm left handed- there could easily be something done to make it more lefty-friendly, simply turn the DS over and the colors displayed the right way. So it appears on the screen upside-down. You get me?

This has been implemented on at least the past two Guitar Hero games, so I don't see why this one wouldn't be the same.
