So, we've all heard good things about Brawl. What about the bad things? Discuss the things we don't like about Brawl, whether it's gameplay, the characters, or whatnot. For starters, Nintendo giving in to including Sonic in Brawl. Yes, it's fine and dandy for many, many fanboys, as they heard their idol is included in a massively hyped game. In fact, maybe Brawl sold even better when Sonic is in it. But what if he isn't? Will it still be the same game? The answer is: hell yes. For starters, when was the last good Sonic game that was made? Sonic Advance? FOR THE GBA? And looking at the latest forays into 3D gaming (I"ll have to admit, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for GC is pretty darn good), but I felt that Nintendo was just pressured by fanboys to include Sonic in the game. And Sonic isn't that even great:Yes, you can finally make your fanfic come through to [insert character name here] versus Sonic (how come no-one mentioned a Snake Versus Mario fan-fic, hmm?), but he feels...tacked on. All of his moves are essentially the same, and/or a variation of the spin dash. The inclusion of the character doesn't feel very polished. Another thing to complain (and probably the biggest one): the removal of many advanced techniques. I can see why remove wavedashing (an advanced technique found in Melee), but why remove giving momentum when air dodging? Why take out the l-cancel, which wasn't even really an advanced technique or a secret, because it was in Melee's manual. And especially, WHY TRIPPING. I can see it now, in a big $10,000 tournament, the guy rushes in for a final dash attack...then trips. It's just not a good idea... Also also, why the nerfs? Most noticeably Falco, but people like Jigglypuff, whose Rest was almost an insta-KO, but required a high degree of skill, now is nerfed, and only is probably half the power and a flower on the opponent's head. It's a bit too drastic. I've heard from the pros that Brawl leans towards the defensive side, More complaining: The inclusion of the Down+air spike. What I'm talking about is that when you hit down+a while in the air for certain characters (Talking about Toon Link, Sheik, and Sonic), you automatically go down, much like a Falcon Kick while in mid air. Many times I got a SD for forgetting characters having this. I can forgive Toon Link, because that is one of his main selling points. Final Smashes are great and all, and it's a blast when 4 people try to fight over a small floating ball. However, I feel that it's not balanced. There are some insta-KOs, and some are none. For example, Luigi's and Peach's final smashes are waaaaaay different. Some can cause insta-KOs, others are completely weak-sauce. Finally, online play. We can complain about Nintendo's brilliant idea of Friend Codes, but why the laggy gameplay? And what's with the terrible "With Anyone" options? It's stuck in 2 minute, usually with items, and no names. The only thing that seems to be definite is what characters you choose. At least it's better with With Friends, but sometimes, I question when I specifically turned off items, and it is still turned on. /end rant, your turn. |

I agree with Brawl on the defensive side. When playing against level 1 computers, they'll shield like crazy, and can block the strongest moves with just shielding. As for the removal of advanced techniques, it doesn't bother me that much. Sure, I miss some of them, but the inclusion of many other different things make up for them. Yes, the Final Smashes are unbalanced. I don't really care whether Sonic is in or not. Personally, I like him as a character in Brawl, but I could do without him. One of my complaints is the lack of "real" sequal things. Yes, Brawl is a crazy, revolutionary sequal with many new mechanics, modes, etc. But what players look for in sequals is more of the old stuff. I don't mind the stages, but I kind of wanted more characters to play as. 35 is quite a large number; but Nintendo could have had more. What I'm thinking is Lloyd Irving (ToS, and more ToS characters), King K. Rool (DK), Felix/Isaac (Golden Sun), The green dude from FZero, Wolf Link (LoZ), The Black Knight (FE), The Koopa magician (Forget his name!), and so many more, and with the inclusion of Sonic and Snake, maybe even Megaman, and FF characters! Who knows the possibilities? And no, Assist Trophies don't count. :/ |

I have 15 reasons why I don't like Brawl: 1. Vaati isn't even a trophy! 2. Wolf's fox's and Falco's final smashes are almost the same. 3. The cheapness of Ike (opinion) 4. Not-so-epic last boss. 5. Lack of assist trophies 6. Will spoil any person who plays it. 7. The fact of Sonic being in Brawl. 8. NO wavedashing. 9. Clone characters are back... :I 10. The final smashes noobs will ALWAYS try and get. 11. No Bowser Jr? Come ON Nintendo! 12. Rediculous release date for Europe. 13. Too much attention is paid on it. 14. Diaorama mode could use a bigger trophy display amount. 15. Hackers on wi-fi. Oh god not the hackers |

The fact that it's still 'TBA' in EU, proving once more Nintendo's contempt for the largest trading bloc in the world. |

Sorry but... what does that have to do with the quality of SSBB. If you want to look at characters that don't fit and really don't make the game any better take a look at snake. Why is he in there? All the other characters in the game are cartoonish which give the game a nice charm, then they toss snake in there. The game was a giant step sideways. |

1. Removal of L-Canceling. Why? Honestly, this was just a stupid move. This made the slower characters even WORSE like bowser. Attacks like link's d-air are now pretty much pointless. It's like nintendo hates the professional smash community, which leads into my next thing I hate about Brawl... 2. Tripping. STUPIDEST. GAME. CONCEPT. EVER. Whoever decided that tripping should be in the game should be raped repeatedly with a rusty nail, thrown into a pit of sulfuric acid, beaten in the scrotum with a cannonball, and have their teeth pulled out with a large construction crane. DUMB DUMB DUMB. I can't stress how retarded tripping is. There have been several times where I've actually lost matches because I'll randomly trip and be vulnerable to attack. And yes, tripping is completely random. There are youtube videos to prove it. 3. Shitty voice acting. *looks at Pit, Fox, Wolf, Falco, and all the other star fox characters) 4. Landmaster and Triforce slash. Clone FSs? LAME. 5. Link/Toon Link and Ganondorf/Falcon. Clone characters? LAME. 6. Speaking of Ganondorf, they made him suck more than a 5 cent hooker during mardi gras. 7. Down air attacks that send you down. S_D already covered this. 8. Online play. MAJOR FAIL. With anyone is a joke. You're forced to do 2 minute times matches with items and 4 player games. You might as well just flip a coin to determine who wins the match. With friends also sucks. The amount of communication with your friends is limited to 4 pre-made text boxes, which you have to taunt to use. Lag is unexcusable as well. The host of a game can't set up the rules completely. Input delay is frustrating. Friend codes are annoying. etc etc etc 9. The new handicap system sucks. I prefer the old one. 10. They got rid of a lot of items (not that I play with items on frequently anyway...). 11. They remixed the main theme like 20 times. Where's the originality, Sakurai? 12. There aren't many stages (although the ones they do have are good). I think Melee actually had more stages than Brawl. 13. Bad AI on custom stage maps. Just about every map that doesn't consist of 3 platforms is near unplayable with CPUs. 14. Not many custom stage options. You can't play custom stages online, either. 15. The "points" system when sending data to someone. You should be able to send as much as you want, or at least they should give you more than 20 freaking points (especially when sending a snapshot takes up 14 points). 16. Removal of the SHFFL. You can't fast fall during your attacks now, which makes gameplay a lot slower. 17. Unnecessary nerfs. Characters like Falcon, Jiggly, Bowser, and Ganondorf didn't deserve to be made worse. 18. No SSB64 stages? Why? 19. Crappy Melee stages. Nobody likes Green Greens or Big Blue. 20. SSE was very repetative. Fighting the same enemies, over and over again, room after room. 21. No voice acting in SSE. The character team ups were completely awkward. Seriously, Metaknight tries to kill Marth one second then the next they team up? And Mario defeats Link in a battle so they become friends? 22. SSE Plot holes. Without voice acting or ANYTHING explaining what's going on (trophies notwithstanding) the story doesn't make much sense. Where does Tabuu come from? How did he get in control of master hand? Why is ganondorf his bitch? etc 23. Still no return of Board the Platforms? 24. The new "level" break the target system. I preferred it when each character had a specific stage to train their abilities. Now, instead of 25 BTT stages, we get 5. eff in the a. 25. Some characters are obviously very overpowered, and, dare I say it, cheap. 26. Coin launcher is boring. It had the potential to be cool, but when the "enemies" don't even do anything but fly around the game gets boring after 5 minutes. And it takes too long to get trophies. 27. Too much emphasis on the Kirby franchise. Just because Sakurai created kirby it means they get special treatment? I think the Kirby stage has more songs than any other stage, and a lot of them are freaking orchestrated. Not to mention that Kirby gets two newcomers. The kirby series isn't even that popular... 28. The Pikmin stage has n64 graphics and a static background. It seems like they made that stage in about 10 minutes. 29. Making Final Destination have that little notch under the sides that you can get caught under when using your up-b. 30. Treating Metroid like crap. I know the Japanese hate metroid, but did Samus really deserve to be put in the column with the other obscure characters (Pit, ROB, etc)? That's just off the top of my head. |

Not 2 new characters. It's not that popular. Metroid should've gotten some new characters... Dark Samus or Sylux would've been kickass. Also, why'd we get Toon Link as a character? We should've gotten Zant or something. Although Toon Link's stage is awesome. |

Yes, adding those two characters to the roster would have increased the awesomeness of Metroid. And why is Vaati not in Brawl? He's not only playable, he's not even a trophy or sticker! Forgetting Vaati is like forgetting the "M" on Mario's hat. |

I don't think we should really complain on what characters SHOULD be in Brawl, although I do think they should have at least 2 from each series. Also, I don't like how there's craptons of Japanese games in-game that we have no clue about. If they had more time, maybe they could have done an American version, doing games that we know about. |
