So, I was trying to get this... Erm... *cough*keygen*cough* to work, and I somehow got virii all over the place.

I began running AVG, Windows Defender, and Zone Alarm. Most Trojans and Adware programs were murdered. I downloaded Ad-Aware, and found out that this adware I had was a worm. After a long, vomit inducing argument with someone about finishing a scan with Ad-Aware, I got Nod32 and scanned. The scan is still going, and all the other scans are going. It's found a lot of Trojans, but nothing much.

I went and quit some very suspicious processes and deleted a lot of suspicious files, but the adware remains.

I ask you, N-Forums, to PLEASE help me.

Well you've done good so far, besides the whole looking for a keygen. You could try Spybot Search and Destroy, but if it's still bad.. you could always save all your documents and reinstall the OS.

You don't have to buy a whole new computer, you can just do what Cats and ramen said if you read the topic.
But anyway, if you can't delete the worm then yeah you will have to reboot your computer, just save all your files.

you will have to reboot your computer

...Of... course. O_o

*coughs*

Anyway. Since you've followed the major steps already, you might want to go into a bit more detail about just what malware you've got on that heap of weeping silicon that you've abused.

Care to describe what the visible adware/spyware is? I'm not asking for a long list of obscure Virus names- just descriptions of the adware in question.

What's the problem? Comet Cursor and Bonzi Buddy back to haunt the internet? "XXX SEARCH STEAMING HOT GOATSE" browser toolbars? Startup messes?

Two simple steps you might want to take if you've not already taken them:

• Ctrl+Shift+Esc (Or Ctrl+Alt+Delete->Processes)
Google the names of any suspicious looking processes on there, and select "End Process" if they turn out to be malware.
Note the names of any malware for later before you terminate them.
I know you've already done this, but still- it doesn't hurt to doublecheck by Googling the names.

• Start->Run (Or Win+R if you want to be shortcut-savvy) + msconfig
Go to the startup tab, and get rid of any processes you don't want on startup. Google the names of the stuff you're unsure about. If you see any of the spyware you terminated on the previous point there, get rid of it.

Do you use Internet Explorer? In IE7, Tools->Manage Add-Ons->Enable or Disable Add-Ons. Disable the stuff you don't want.
(Oh- and get Firefox while you're at it.)

See, I would Google that stuff, but when I do, it messes up and gives me a bunch of "Need such and such? Search easy at (generic site)!" The ads are just like, "Save money with POWER PLUS." "Computer infected by viruses?! Get WINDOWS XP SUPAR SAVER."

That stuff.

I already went and deleted suspicious processes... And I cannot reformat. I no longer own an XP disk, because it's been used too many times, and I really REALLY do not want to go Vista, nor do I have the money.

I finished Nod32. Found a lot of Trojans. The ads are opening less, but are still there.

It's not a serious problem, just a god damned nuisance.

If you were using keygens then not having a windows disc wouldn't be a problem surely? Oh and you're right about vista. Don't do it people!

Are you running a DELL? If so then you don't need to worry about the OS disc, if it was made in the last few years it should have a reboot partition that you can use.

Edit

Yeah, that aside, it's pretty hard to remove everything just by using software. You really need to get your hands on a OS disc if you want to be 100% certain.

And next time, download the program with the key in a text document or something. Downloading Keygens on their own is never smart.

But yeah, smart move reformatting. Some malware is really good at hanging on in there.
