The determining factor will be who dominates in North America.

Microsoft does horrible in Japan due to the hugeness that is the brick(regular xbox). Wii is so small so it's the smartest choice in Japan. Not to mention that Nintendo dominates Japan.

As for the original Xbox... not so much, but heck, the PS2 is an ugly console as well. In fact, none of the that generation's consoles are particularly pleasing on the eye, save for perhaps the Dreamcast.
