![]() Platforms: Gamecube exclusive Publisher: THQ Developer: Yuke's Since the launch of the Gamecube wrestling fans have been waiting for a decent WWE game to come along, with the last two efforts being somewhat flawed, to say the least. WWE Day of Reckoing is that game. The story sees you taking your created character from the minor leagues of WWE to the dizzying heights of WWE superstardom. This storyline although unoriginal plays well and offers, for the first time on the Gamecube, a story mode that is highly enjoyable. You start of in the WWE Developmental fighting other unknown rookies, under the watchful eye of 'the coach' ![]() You created grappler starts of against unknown opponents At this point in the game the only way to progress through the story is to complete set tasks given to you by 'the coach', if you fail you have to keep replaying the mission until you succeed. These tasks range from doing set moves in a match to completing matches in a certain amount of time. At times these tasks make the gameplay feel a bit restrictive and the fact that you can’t progress in the story until you complete them is somewhat frustrating. After you pay your dues in the WWE Developmental you are promoted to the HEAT shows and after proving yourself there you enter the mainstream Raw or Smackdown! Show, the choice of which show is up to you and this is the only time during the story that you get to control what happens and even then both paths are the same, except with different characters playing the roles depending on what show you’re on. You will find your first play through the story mode enjoyable, but unfortunately there is only one story line and it is very linear and you may find yourself bored during multiple play troughs. I think the real meat of this game is the exhibition modes, all of the important match types like table matches, TLC and Hell in the Cell. These match types play out very much like the real thing, with the exception of hell in the cell, which makes you smash through the side of the cage instead of going through the door. These multi player options make multi player games highly enjoyable. Allowing up to four human players don the spandex and beat each other to a pulp. ![]() Despite some niggles exhibition mode offers a great gaming experience for both single and multi player Graphically Day of Reckoning offers a big improvement over previous outings. Charecter models look as realistic as ever complemented by great facial detail and great looking outfits. Another big improvement is the animations; they are more detailed and look more realistic. Moves look brutal and have more of an impact and weapon strikes look bone crunchingly good. ![]() Improvements to graphics make your muscle-bound wrestler look more real than ever I have to say that I found the create a wrestler mode in Day of Reckoning great, there are more figure options and clothes to kit out your wrestler with and tones of moves to assign to your onscreen counterpart. ![]() This years CAW mode lets your create a wrester as realistic aws you want You also have the ability to fully customize your Caws entrances. Camera, lighting, pyro and music is all selectable with more to unlock from the games shopzone. The roster has a total of 40 wrestlers for you to use, the biggest names are there including John Cena, The Undertaker and Triple H as well as some of the WWE legend such as Bret Hart and Andre the giant. Despite this the game has a few missing characters that quite frankly should be there, such as JBL, the Dudley boyz and Eugene. However these can be easily created using the CAW mode. ![]() The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. Big name star and old school legend are all included Sound has also received a huge overhaul in this game. All wrestlers entrance music is up to date and the games in game soundtrack features awesome tunes from the likes of Tantric and Braking Benjamin. Sound effects are good and let your hear every slam and every skull cracking chair shot with great detail. A huge let down in the sound department is, due to the small size of the Gamecube discs, is that that there is not voice acting in the game, instead the game uses text. All in all this is a great game that should appeal to fans and non fans a like and is by far the best Gamecube wrestler to date. Thanks to the exhibition mode, graphical Splendor and great create a wrestler mode will keep the game in your console for a long time. ------------ Ratings ------------ Graphics -- 8/10 Gameplay -- 8/10 Sound -- 7/10 Replay value --7/10 Overall 8/10 |

Good review. But I'd give it 7/10, I didn't enjoy it as much as Smackdown! vs. Raw for the PS2. DOR's story mode is much harder and you usually HAVE to win. I SD! vs Raw, you can loose, and continue. |

I don't man. SD! vs. Raw's matches are a lot easier and quicker. In DOR when you get punched in the face, your guy wobbles around like a retard for four seconds, buy in SD! vs. Raw, when you get a punch in the face, your guy holds his face and stands again in like a second. That's why SD! vs. Raw is a lot better. |

Meh, I guess it's down to opinion, Smackdown vs Raw is a good game but I suppose it comes down to what you prefer. |

That I agree with, DOR controls seemed a bit fiddly. |

Yup. There's a lot more grapple moves in SD! vs. Raw also. |
