Even if you don't like shoot 'em ups much, it was pretty fun. And if you became completely stuck on the 1-player mode, the multiplayer is one of the best there is. Unfortunately, rare no longer make 007 games, and, even if they did, it would be on Xbox. Now EA (Evil arts) own the rights, so they had an idea. They would make a game named after the N64 classic, with a dodgy storyline and a lot of bugs. the storyline is so cheesy, that I’m sure it was designed to be cheesy. You are an MI6 agent, who has been sacked for being too ruthless on a mission to Fort Knox to stop Goldfinger in his plan (for more information, see Goldfinger). What stopped you was a bomb planted by DR. No, which destroyed your eye. After a cutscene that says 'it could've been more than your eye' several times, you are told that all James Bond baddies are in an organization, and DR. No has left and declared war on the other James bond baddies. You and Goldfinger team up to defeat the common enemy. He has also given you a replacement eye, that's made of (guess what) GOLD! For some reason, the eye gives you powers like seeing through walls, sending enemies flying, and other predictable stuff. There are a lot more incredibly cheesy twists in the story, but they're too cheesy to type here. The Gameplay is more important, and it's really a mixed experience. It’s often annoying because it can take a while to find out where to go, the game is dark and impossible to play in bright sunlight, bullets shot round corners hit the wall even if the wall isn't in the way, there is only one path through a level, the touch screen control sometimes wanders when you don't want it to, and you often can't see where you're being shot at from. The story mode is quite short, but you'll probably be bored of doing the same thing over and over before you finish it. However, there is a wide assortment of different weapons, the Goldeneye powers are fun, the controls are (other than the touch screen) perfect, the dual-weapons system is cool, it's fun to take hostages, and there's fun traps to set in the levels. The graphics are good, the sounds are as good as Gamecube sounds, and the layout of the rooms feels good. All in all, there are some good points and some bad points. The multiplayer looks like the best part of the game, until you play it. It's basically just running around, and if you happen to walk other any guns, you pick them up. The levels are too big, and aren't very well designed, so the 1-on-1 that is the best most people can manage sucks, because in the rare event that you do see someone, you just shoot at them, and hope you kill them before they kill you. There's no fun like in timesplitters, because it all feels completely random. In conclusion, there are some good points, and many bad points to the game. Gameplay: 6/10 graphics:7/10 sound: 5/10 lifetime: 6/10 multiplayer: 5/10 OVERALL: 58% |
