Okay, this will be my first review at NF. I'll be reviewing a personal favorite Luigi's Mansion. I will also use my new experimental star system. When I put stars on random words you can go down to the end of this thread to see some input I put in there. Introduction: Everyone's heard of this game. Everyone's seen this game. It even has a slight impact on the internet world (see mega64 for that impact) but is it really good? The answer: Hells yeah!!! The basic story: This game gives Mario a kick in the pants as Luigi stars in the correctly titled Luigi's Mansion. This is Luigi's first starring role since the craptacular CD-i game Mario is Missing*. Luigi one day finds out that he won a mansion in some contest he never entered. So instead of calling the police* Luigi decided to tell his brother to meet him at the joint. Instead of seeing his brother, he sees a lot of freaky ghosts, some talking paintings, and wizzened old man w/ some crazy glasses and a weird hairdoo. E. Gadd then gives luigi the Pultergeist3000 and tells him how to free Mario and suck ghosts. The adventure begins! The gameplay: Playing Luigi's Mansion is incredibly fun and addictive even though the game is pretty short. The camera can be a bit annoying sometimes as well but it's managable. What keeps this game fresh is the Potrait ghosts. These ghosts come in various shapes and sizes w/ different abbilities. The adding of elemental powers as well (fire, ice, water) makes the gameplay more interesting. Boos can be very annoying though (especially when they have 150+ health which gets a little tedious) The game is short, but that's a good thing because you get tired of the gameplay right around the King Boo fight which works out perfectly. The game is also very linear but there is no problem w/ that since it's done right. The graphics: Amazing. Especially for a starting game. The lighting effects are a sight for sore eyes. The mansion itself is straight of a Tim Burton movie and sparkled w/ a hint of Nintendo which is the icing on the cake. I love how Luigi's nose bobbles up and down whenever he moves. Everything has an action when you blow or push on it. vases spin, droors push out, and dust blows off the floor. The sound: It gets stuck in your head. Luigi even sings it* when he goes down the hallway. The Melody Pianssia's (that might be spelled wrong, someone check that out please) boss stage is also a treat on the ears for veteran Mario fans. I dig it yo. The Replay Value: Arg! If Luigi's Mansion was a werewolf, this would be it's silver bullet shot by a young protagonist. Replay value is slim to none in this game. Sure there are hidden mansions among hidden mansions in this game, but it's basically the same thing except harder. I really would've liked to see some co-op Luigi's Mansion. The multiplayer possibillities are also endless....but alas, maybe 9 months after you beat it you can take it off your dusty shelf you keep your Sega Saturn and Gameboy Pocket and go through it again.... Final Comments: This is a fun game. Lime Green Cap makes us laugh w/ his cowering tatcics, and the first boss fight in this game is a real WOW moment. Don't expect to play this game forever folks. Since it's only 20 bucks though, you should pick it up. It's worth it. Do it for Lime Green Cap. All in All: Storyline: 7/10 Nintendo went a different route this time w/ Mario being the one in need of assistence instead of Peach. Definatley seen better though. Gameplay: 8/10 Fun, easy, and exciting. The potrait ghosts make this game much funner. Boos in later levels can be annoying. Get tired of it by the last boss battle. Graphics: 9/10 Luigi's nose bobbing up and down is so funny to watch. Luigi's Mansion's style is straight out of Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sound: 9/10 The song is still stuck in my head. It's like a drug....in song form. Don't let the kids get it! Replay Value: 4/10 Not so good. It's replayable though. In desperate need of Co-op. All in all: 8.7/10 It's a really fun game and cheap game. Get it. 1.*Mario is Missing is Luigi's only starring role besides Luigi's Mansion. This game was also a geography educational title. "shudders" 2.*The police would've solved a lot of problems and made a lot of boring games. Seeing Bowser getting peppersprayed would be hilarious in my book. The police did show up however in various Mario games including the odd intro of Mario Power Tennis. 3.*His singing of the Luigi's Mansion Theme song varies depending on his health and if the lights are on or off in the area. Also in Pikmin 2, if you have enough red pikmin your pikmin will hum the Luigi's Mansion themesong. |

Okay. Today I'm going to do a review on Wario Land 4, a classic. Intro: Wario has always held a special place in my heart. He's the perfect anti-hero. Fat, rude, obnoxius, and greedy. That's why I dig him. His games have also always been big on originality and innovation*. That's why I wanted to review Wario Land 4, one of my all time favorite games and Wario's first outing on the Gameboy Advance. Storyline*: Yup, everyone's favorite chubby protagonist found a magical pyramid. He drove his fancy pimped out purple car out there just to get his grubby paws on some treasure. You've gotta love his get rich schemes. Gameplay: Oh man, oh man what fun gameplay. The controls are incredibly easy to learn and the puzzles the game has in it makes it even funner. Wario has a nice amount of special abillities. Well they aren't really special abillities, I'd call them "accidents" For example, in one of the various levels, a gorilla may throw a peice of fruit in Wario's mouth, thus making him fat Wario and giving him the abillity to crush rocks with his massive girth to get to hidden places and other stuff. You have to also find the hidden key (Keyser) and find the four jems to unlock the boss fight. Once you open the warp though, your timed and if you don't get out in that certain time, you have to do it all over again. Bummer. Graphics: This is one of the better looking Game boy games. Though some of it is pretty average, the cutscenes are great and the sprite effects are downright fantastic. Sound: Give Wario Land 4 props, because this is the first GBA game to have lyrics! Even though it's in Japanese, it's still a nice melody to listen to. Wario games always have quirky lyrics I guess. Replay Value: Very high. Going back to go through it again to find things like the hidden CD's in each level or to unlock the mini games that get you good items for the boss fight is very fun. Hell, sometimes I just find a CD, go to the sound room and just listen to it for an hour. It's soothing. Final Comments: Another game you need to get. No. Another game you MUST get. It's dirt cheap now since it came out in 2001 sometime. It is incredibly fun and the game oozes with style and the all around coolness of Wario :matrix: All in All: Storyline: 8/10 Without the little booklet that comes w/ the game it would be a 5 or 6, but if you read Wario's diary it makes more sense and a lot more funny. Gameplay: 9.5/10 Genius. Brilliant. Fun. Those are the words that come into my brain when I think of Wario Land 4's gameplay. Graphics: 8/10 Nice Sprite Effects and cutscenes. Wario has a really nice car. Sound: 8/10 It's music w/ lyrics :hyper: !!!!!!! Replay Value: 8.5/10 You'll want to go through it again, and again, and again.... All in All: 9.4/10 It's such a fun game. Great for car trips. Get it. You'll thank me. 1.*The Wario land series did many things for the platforming genre on the Gameboy. Wario Ware Inc. doesn't really need an introduction on how innovative it is does it? 2.*If you ever get this game read the little booklet that comes with it. At the end you have a little diary written by the big W himself. It's one of the funniest things ever. |

Alien Hominid Intro: Has anyone been to Newgrounds? Does anyone enjoy Metal Slug? If you answered yes to 1 or all of these questions, then you'll get a kick out of Alien Hominid. It's the type of game that stick out of the mainstream and precedes to do it's one thing w/ the fun game and wacked out visuals. The Story: FBI after alien. Really impressive.....thank the lord everything else rules w/ this game. Gameplay: Here's where the real fun is at. Gameplay. This game plays almost in every way like Metal Slug, except it's more creative. Ever had to fight a giant pudding beast? Well now is your chance! This game takes the awesome Metal Slug gameplay premise and makes way better using fresh bosses, wierd locations, and other oddities that improve the performance. The minigames are fun as hell too.... Graphics: It's like a mix between a comic book and a saturday morning cartoon. It's pretty wicked. Some the visuals are pretty inspiring. Like the awesome bosses for example. The minigames however are pretty dull looking, and don't expect any originality from generic baddies. It's still a visually fresh game. Sound: It's quirky but forgettable.............that's all I can really say. Get out an ipod or somethin...... Replay Value: This is where it works. You can play this game forever. Co-op is a key factor in this game. unlocking new hats for your alien is also fun. The game is a kick in the pants at most times, so it's good to have a spare carcass willing to help you around the house. The minigames are also really fun to do w/ more than one person. Multiplayer will last many a while w/ this game....... All in All: Storyline: nothing really, but it's not the focus 4/10 Gameplay: Awesome! They took the Metal Slug formula and gave it a makeover! 9/10 Graphics: All over the scale, from jaw dropping to dull 7/10 Sound: This is a good reason to get your "Best of Guns and Roses" CD out...... 5/10 Replay Value: You'll be playing this game a while 9/10 All in All: 7.6/10 It's pretty fun game. At least rent it. |
