Here are two examples i showed to gain my Job as a game reviewer for www.stratagyinformer.com: *note that images were deleted because they belong to the website i originally posted them on* First one (this is of the GCN game, viewtiful joe 2): "More action. More Enemies. More viewtiful!" So says the back cover of the long awaited sequel to one of the best games of 2003, Viewtiful Joe. This time Capcom gives fans more of what they love, and gives players the option of uses Joe or Sylvia, with the "viewtiful touch button" (the Z button on your controller). That's only the top of the icing to the added changes. There are various difficulties added now (two are they when you start the game) and the added feature "36 Chambers of Viewtiful Joe", which is basically a challenge quest for our Red Hero. The game features all the old VFX powers (Slow, Speed, and Zoom), plus a new one for Sylvia, which is called "Replay". With that move Sylvia can repeat a move (such as a kick) up to three time. The sequel returns to deliver all the fun of it's predecessor, and I can safely say that it's successes at it's job. If you played the first game, you'll feel immediately at home in its sequel. Newcomers though, will be charmed by it’s difference from all other games out there on the Gamecube, or any console really. Joe and his girlfriend Silvia once again find themselves inside the world of the cinema, this time in a place called Movieworld. As the name implies, levels patterned after various movies; such as Jurassic Park to Ancient films and even of the old Japanese samurai and martial arts films are represented here. All will have their own puzzles and obstacles, which will force the player to have brains and brawn, in order to succeed. They'll be going up against the Black Emperor and various enemies (many of whom are similar to those from the first game) as they attempt to recover various Oscar statuettes. As I said in my earlier review last year of Viewtiful Joe, the music and theme's are unmistakable. The voice acting is hilarious and well done. You will have a great time hearing the game as well as playing this game. The controls on the cube are perfect, and you never feel like your at a lost when playing them. Pushing up and down not eh control stick will cause Joe/Sylvia to perform a doge. The L button activates the VFX slow and the R button Activates Mach Speed and Replay (Joe and Sylvia respectively). and the C stick activates the VFX zoom powers. As stated before, the Z button on your controller activates the "viewtiful touch" power, which allows players to switch between Joe and Sylvia. In addition, The combo system is even better then in the first game! With more moves unlocked by purchasing them in the shop after each level in the game, adding a RPG style element to the game. One thing that always stood out at me is the fact that the graphics on this game scream Viewtiful. Rarely does a game have it's own graphical style, but these new franchise has been honored with obtaining a graphics style all it's own. At first you might seem puzzled at these “comic -style” graphics, but after you play the game you'll realize that you would not want to see our red hero any other way. As for extras, this game has a lot more unlockables the first one. Such as the unlockables 36 chambers, extra characters, and various difficulties. Its not a lot of unlockables like some games, but it's easy replayablity makes up for this easily. The great thing about this game is the fact that it's just so darn enjoyable by everyone. Your get a kick out of the funny moments, love when you pull off the fighting moves, and just want to play it again and again due to the fact that the game is so darn enjoyable. My only problem with the game is the fact that it really doesn't bring anything new to the table after the first game. The problem is completely minor however, due to Capcom giving us more of what we like, and that's action, comedy and more viewtiful moments. Capcom is maybe one of the smartest companies around. Why you ask? Cause when they find something that works, they never leave it. Look at street fighter. Look at Mega man franchise. Look at Resident evil. Sure they have “evolved" but they learned the art of keeping the "heart and soul" of what made the game so darn enjoyable in the first place and always make sure that it's in it's sequels. All I can say is, after laying this game, I can’t wait to see what more may come from the Viewtiful Joe Franchise. In short, this game earns a solid "A" from me. The pros and cons part: Pros: 1. Lots of Fun 2. Acting is fantastic 3. Game is just plan funny and addicting Cons: 1. Not much new 2. Can be hard for some 3. Puzzles can slow down the action a bit GCN and PS2 $50 Capcom Second one (this isof the DS game Asphault Urban GT): Asphalt Gt may not do anything great for the racing genre, but it’s a safe bet to name this one of the best racing handheld titles to date ever made so far. With lots to do in this game, fun never ends! GAMECAMILLER review- Asphalt Urban GT(DS) Rating: 8.2 Race through modern city streets in licensed model automobiles in this high-tech racing game that can be played by yourself or against others in multiplayer modes. Also, up to 4 players can race against each other in a selection of DS wireless communication multiplayer modes through multi-pack support (no single pack support). Choose to race through the busy streets of New York City, Miami, Las Vegas, Paris and Tokyo. Or choose the palm lined streets on the island of Cuba, the airstrip at the Bogotá Airport, the sandy terrain of Chernobyl in the Ukraine, or a USA Speedway, while avoiding other cars not eh road and various obstacles that block your way… Pick your car from numerous models: Aston Martin, Shelby Cobra Concept, Chevrolet Corvette, Ford GT, Hummer, Jaguar, Lotus Exige, several Lamborghinis and Volkswagen Beetle and more. There’s over 25 cars you can get in this game, not to mention multiples of cars to store in your garage in evolution mode. You also have access to an garage to tweak these cars. Over 30 modifications can be applied to your car for performance or just for looks. The background music ranges from “classic” car racing music with titles such as “Burning Rubber” to pretty average rock music. There all pretty enjoyable tracks, through most of the music is pretty forgettable. Not many of them either, only 7 in all, plus the option to turn all music off. The car sounds aren’t bad but not that great either. In and every car uses the same set of sounds while driving. So your Hummer doesn’t sound different at all from your roadster. It would be nice to hear a diff variety between the car sounds. When your driving in Asphalt Gt the controls are near perfect and simple. The respond perfectly and just about anyone can pick up this game and learn how to play simply. The controls aspect, makes Asphalt one of the easiest racing games yet for anyone. The game follows a simple “arcade” interface set of controls. The arrow pad is used to steer your car. B button is used to Accelerate, X button is used for a horn, Y is used for your break, and the a is used to get a turbo speed boost blast. The L and R buttons are used to stroll through various views you can see, such as full screen, rear-view mirror, and bumper cam. Now your probably asking “why didn’t you give the controls a ten then if their so simple and perfect?” Well it’s with it’s touch screen use. It pretty much has none. You can use to select the menu options, but why bother? Use the control pad it’s much easier. So you could basically play this game and never use the stylus. Why put a game out on the DS that doesn’t have a good touch screen support? The bottom screen is mainly used for a map, and menu choices. Seems a little “wasteful”. That’s why I knock two points off. “Game” Tip: Push the select button to turn your headlights on and off. Difficulty: depends on the level you play it at (on arcade mode, you can set the difficulty from 1 to 10). Evolution mode gradually gets harder, but overall it’s not too hard for you to overcome it. The Cop Chase mode, by far is the hardest mode at of the whole game; be glad to even beat those arcade levels. One thing you can say about GT is that for a launch game, it looks very good. It’s totally 3D with an excellent refresh rate; the game is as fun to play as is to look at it. The cars are detailed, through they don’t look as great as the cars in Ridge Racer Ds (it’s competition). Through in backgrounds, the details are fantastic and the tracks are greatly designed. One thing that I love about GT is that tracks were designed in such a way that when you play them, you never ever seem to get bored of them. Very few racing games can even achieve this. And well this is much needed, cause you’ll be visiting the locations over and over in Evolution mode. The game Also offers various Arcade modes, such as Instant play (tack car, and race set up already for you), Road Challenge (compete in a series of 5 races), Free race, Time Attack (fastest lap on a track), and the ever fast, fun, and darn hard Cop Chase mode. My only problem is that the game is a bit too easy even on the hardest difficulty level. Luckily the extras make up for this. This game has a lot more unlikable, which adds to the replay value. You can unlock tons of different car styles in arcade mode, and different cars in evolution mode. Your going to have to play every mode, and with every car to unlock everything. That’s a lot to do. As I stated earlier, “There’s over 25 cars you can get in this game, not to mention multiples of cars to store in your garage in evolution mode. You also have access to an garage to tweak these cars. Over 30 modifications can be applied to your car for performance or just for looks.” The one thing I love this game, is how enjoyable it is. every time I play it I have fun. Weather it’s hitting a car, or beating my buds in multiplayer mode, or getting that sweet new car, the game just has that “fun” inexperience. I must say “this is most likely the best hand held racing game released so far”. I’ve played many others on my Gameboy and SP but they pale in comparison to this game. Even ridge racer DS (which is a good game in it’s own right) just cannot top the overall value and fun this game has. The pros and cons part: Pros: 1. Lots of cars to play 2. Lots of unlikable and stuff to do 3. The game is just a lot of fun! =P 4. Easy to adapt to Cons: 1. Only 4 peeps for multiplayer 2. No single cart download 3. Poor use (“non use” rather) of the touch screen capabilities. 4. The game is a bit too easy even on it’s hardest level. For DS Price: $30 on average bottom line- 8.2/10 |
