Developer: Kemco Genre: Action/Puzzle Players: 1-4 Simul. ESRB: E Boulder Dash EX Review Story: 3 Stars!: Once upon a time (aagh... I hate that line) there were two friends, A boy named Alex and a girl named Sonya, who lived happily on a tranquil plain. One day, Alex bought Sonya a gift. Alex: "Here is a gift for you. I bought it because it matched your brooch." Sonya: "Thank you! My mom gave me the brooch. She said, according to a legend, that it will protect me from evil." Alex: "Cool!" All goes well until a dark shadow sweeps across the sky and a terrible beast appears. ?: "I finally found you, Sonya!" Alex: "Who's that?" Sonya: "It's Dark King!" With a wave of his hand, Dark King creates a strange-looking mirror. Sonya suddenly rises into the air, and flies towards the mirror. Sonya: "Alex!" Sonya flies straight into the mirror, and is caught inside it. The mirror shatters, and Dark King disappears. Alex: "Sonya!" Alex then notices Sonya's brooch on the ground. Alex picks it up, and the shatterd fragments of the Dark Mirror turn into jewels. They glow, then fling themselves into a vortex created by the brooch. Right before his eyes, another mirror appears in front of Alex. Would this mirror take him to Sonya? Alex: "I have nothing to lose!" -Wow. Just wow. That story was about average, but very creative. Gameplay: 5 Stars! This game has the best gameplay I've seen in a while. This is a remake of the great (and very old) game Boulder Dash for the C64. You have two modes of play, EX game and Classic Boulder Dash (this is a treat for all you old-school gamers!). The object of both games is to dig through the cave collecting the required number of jewels, then find the exit. Also, you must look out for falling boulders; get crushed and you're a goner. To add to the EX game, throw in enemies and items, and you've got a work of art. ![]() The beginning of your quest, World of Forest 1 Graphics: 4 Stars! Graphics are nice, and inlude some nice special effects. Replayability: 3 Stars! The main game doesn't last very long, in terms of length, but has a nice replayability level. However, unlockables are pretty much limited to special cards about items, enemies, or characters earned by completing objectives within the game, ex. getting perfect on the first three worlds. Control: 4 Stars! Here is the control scheme: EX game: D-pad: Move A plus D-pad left/right: Kick boulder B: Use Hope Crystal if selected B plus D-pad: Use selected item L: Select item (counter-clockwise) R: Select item (clockwise) Classic game: D-pad: Move A plus D-pad: Collect jewel, dig, push boulder without moving (Magic Mining) Simple? Absolutely. ![]() Don't get crushed! Music (no sound file available): 4 Stars! Nice music, but unfortunately you'll have to play the game to hear it. Action: 4 Stars! Faced-paced action combines with... Puzzle: 4 Stars! ...perplexing puzzels. Very nice combo. ![]() And here it is... classic Boulder Dash! WOOHOO! Difficulty: 4 Stars! Not as difficult as some games, but not as easy as most. Average rating: 4 Stars! This is the average of all above ratings. My personal rating: 4 Stars! This is speaking as a big fan of Boulder Dash, but when I saw this game on the shelf, I just HAD to pick it up. This game rocks. Just plain rocks. However, there could of been a few improvements (maybe a puzzle editor?), but all in all, I recommend this game. Highly. If you've never played Boulder Dash, this game is still fun. If you're as big a fan as I am, you'll want to lock yourself in your room, turn on the GBA, and play it for weeks straight. In short, this is a must for everybody! |

Nice Review! And, if I may say so myself, you have the best avatar. Ever.

It's Reggie Fils Aime. The guy that said Nintendo was gonna kick *censored* and take names at last year's E3. |
