Hello every one, today I’m going to review Cima the Enemy. This is my second review so enjoy.
I hope it is much better then my last one. ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() This is the official game cover for Cima the Enemy. ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Publisher: Natsume. Developer: Dream Factory. Genre: Action/RPG Release Date: November 18, 2003 ESRB: E. For everyone. (Rated E for Violence, and Animated blood) Multiplayer: None. Can it link with another Game Boy Advance: No. Platform: Game Boy Advance. Save files: 2 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ The Game Boy Advance needed more RPGS, yes it had Fire Emblem, Golden Sun 1 and 2, but it still needed more, and Cima the Enemy was the RPG that the Game Boy Advance needed. This very creative and interesting game is only $20. This game was probably one of the most underrated games ever. No one knows about it, and those who do think it just another stupid childish game by Natsume, but they are very wrong. I’m going to show you why they are wrong. Sit back, and hold tight, because here we go! ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Here is a picture of the two main characters Ark, and Ivy. _______________________________________________________________________ There are sixteen party members in this game. You’re probably thinking “Wow! That is a lot of characters!” Well your right there is a lot of characters in the game, but it isn’t like Chrono Cross where the characters don’t have any background stories. In this game, all of the characters have great background stories, and they develop perfectly with the storyline development. You won’t find yourself wonder, why is the character acting like this or why does this character hate that character so much. All things like that are perfectly explained. Also each, and every character has his, or hers own personality, so it makes the game a lot of fun. Rating: 8/10 Personal opinion: Character development, personalities and background stories are great; I have the funniest time watching some of the characters because sometimes it’s really funny. Like the two main characters Ark, and Ivy who make fun of each other all the time. Personal Rating: 8.5/10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ The story of this game is very creative, and told very well. I’m going to give you the down low on the story, without spoilers. Some things that will make understanding the story a lot easier: Cima is an organization of half human aliens who feed off of hope; they trap people into huge mazes. There is always a way out of the maze to give the people who are trapped in the mazes hope, and the Gate Guardians an organization of humans who protect innocent people from Cimas, and help people who get stuck in the mazes to get out of the. The story begins in an underground lab. The lab is for the Gate Guardian’s research. The lab is located under the continent of Altran in the Jillani Region. There is a huge research team; researching things that look like crystals. There are two people talking about the Cima, and how they are beginning to be more active. The two people walk into a huge room, with things that look like crystals. They talk about a thing called the Singularity, and they also talked about a transformation. Then one of the guys says if they can’t get the Singularity to open soon, all of the human race will be destroyed. After that the screen fades into a new scene. The new scene has fourteen pioneers on a train. The train is going to a new land so the pioneers can start a new colony. In the train Ark and Ivy are fighting about who is a better Gate Guardian, and Ivy is making fun of Ark since she has been a Gate Guardian one month longer then Ark. Another person named Jester walks into the room, and tells them to stop fighting. Jester he says to both of them “Remember we draw swords only to protect people. Otherwise we become the same as CIMA!” After he says that Ark and Ivy say they won’t do it again. Then some of the pioneers get worried that the Cimas will attack, Ark says too them “Jester is one of the Six Stars, he is one of the best Gate Guardians.” He also goes on how he is pretty good in battle, and that Ivy stinks. Then Ivy and Ark get into another fight. Jester walks out of the room, because he is tired of them always fighting. While they are still fight a huge gate that leads to one of the mazes appears, and the whole train starts to get sucked in. Ivy and Ark go and tell Jester what is happening. Jester says “Only a very powerful Cima would even try to take a whole train.” After that Ivy, Ark and Jester get prepared for battle. Then the gate sucks the entire train in, and they end up in the world of the gate. Jester, Ivy and Ark walk outside, and see a huge object. Ark, and Ivy ask what it is, but Jester doesn’t answer. Then a portal to one of the mazes appears, the only way to get out of the gate’s world is to go though all of the mazes. So Ivy, Ark, Jester and all of the pioneers walk into the maze. As they go deeper into the maze things get worse, when things go really bad Ark and Ivy have to step up to the plate! Rating: 8.5/10 Personal Rating: Very great story, creative it isn’t like a lot of other alien stories, it’s much better, has a lot deeper storyline. I love how it develops, and how exciting it is to get farther and farther; to understand more of the storyline. Also the storyline doesn’t have any plot holes. Personal rating: 9.5\10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Game-play: This game’s game play is pretty darn good; want to knowwhat makes it so good? This game is unlike a lot of others from how you get through the mazes to figuring out all of the puzzles in the mazes itself. How you move around in this game is very interesting, and it takes a lot of thinking. You control five groups each group has around four to two guys. Say you want to move group one this is how you do it. Push L first; that will bring up a list of five tents push A on the tent that has the number one on it. After doing that push L again to close the list, and then push R this will open up a list that has all of the members of group one in it. If you want to move the entire group bush A on the thing with the arrows point north, east, west and south, then select where you want your group to go; when you do that they will start moving to the spot you told them to. If you only want one person in group one to move; move your cursor over the picture of the character (Remember to push R to open the list) and tell that character where you want him or her to go when you do that; that one person will begin to move where you told him or her to go. Quick Tip: Watch where you tell your character to go. You don’t want them to go near a Cima nest. Although some of your people can defend themselves they aren’t really good at it. Cima nests look like mini crystals. Be aware some Cimas appear out of no where. One really cool feature is that the other characters in the game might like Ark, or might not; when you first get them. Each character has a heart next to him or her, and that means how much they believe in you. If they have a red heart with a number like -15 on it that means that don’t trust you, if they have a green heart with a number like 15 on it that means that they kind of trust you, but not a lot. How much they trust you is lowered when they get attacked my Cimas, and how must they trust you is raised when you prevent Cimas from attacking them. One really big thing this system has to do with the game is if they don’t trust you, they won’t always do what you tell them too, also if they do trust you then they will do what you tell them, and also make items for you. The last thing about this is when you first get a character their heart number will vary. Like one person you get might start off with a red heart that is -80 toward you, but another might only start with a -20 toward you; also every character you get starts off with a red heart toward you, so you have to save them from Cimas to get it higher. Another new and creative feature in the game is every character will make items for you, once you get them to something like this. They have a green heart that is 35 toward you. Every character makes different items like most of the girls make healing things, and most of the guys make things that raise you defense or offence. Every item takes certain crystal metal things to make. You get these things by killing Cimas. Most of the time certain Cimas; will drop certain things. Don’t try to camp at a Cima nest to get the metals, because most of the time Cima will only drop them once or twice. Even though this game is a RPG there isn’t any leveling up in it. However every maze you go through has a rare metal. (Most of the time 3 or four of them) You use the metal to make your characters stats go up. How you do this is easy. You will get a character named Doug after you get him he will raise your stats by using the rare metal you have to approve your weapon, and armor. The stats that can be raised are Strength, and Speed. The battle system of this game isn’t hard to learn at all; it’s pretty much a button smashing type. The battle system is kind of like the battle system that is used in Zelda. You walk up to a Cima nest, and a Cima will come out, and try to attack you. You then push the A button as fast as you can until the Cima is gone. (Cimas will keep coming out of the nest if you stay near it) On the another hand when you are fighting bosses the battle system changes a lot, yes you still have to push the A button really fast to kill the boss, but it takes a lot more strategy to win boss fights, then it does with regular fights. Also every boss has an attack pattern that you will have to learn, and figure out a strategy for. After every boss battle you will get an item, most of the time it is a ring. You can equip a ring with anyone on your party; certain rings will do certain things. Some rings might heal your guy when he is standing still, others will protect him from losing offence, or defense; another type will make his defense and offence go up; the last type will make him move faster. This game takes a lot of strategy in the item area because each characters can only hold around ten items, and can only use five in battle meaning you really have to think of what item would be best for what kind of battle you are going to be in, also you really have to watch your health because the healing items take a lot of the crystal metals; to make with your party members. You probably won’t find yourself playing this game for hours on end, because after the first two hours or so, it kind of gets old, but you will find yourself playing it for about an hour every other day or so, because you really want to know what the entire storyline is leading up to. The controls of this game are decent. Sometime it can get really annoying, and hard, but not many, the controls are pretty tough to use in battle, but one thing that is easy to use in battle is items; items in battle are pretty easy, because all you have to do is open up the item list, by pushing the B button and select the item you want to use, and the game will pause so you will not take damage while you’re trying to use your item. The controls do get easier if you play the game on the Game Boy Player. Rating: 8.5/10 Personal opinion: I thought this games features are quiet refreshing. They really keep me playing. For me I think the battle system is a lot of fun, and I don’t really mind the controls, yeah, I really do like games that are easy to pick up, and get the hang of, but I’m fine with taking the time, and learning the controls for this game. Personal Rating: 8.8\10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Graphics: The graphics are great! The characters are just beautiful! They aren’t pixilated at all in the game, and the detail on them is great, like ribbons in the girls’ hair, also when your characters talk, they will have a box, with a picture of the character speaking in it, and that looks awesome, the box with the picture of the character in it; is very details you can make out the character perfectly! The mazes you go through have a lot of detail put into them, from the leaves on the trees, to the rocks, and dirt on the ground and the shading in the mazes is very nice. They are colored perfectly, and stand out well. The aliens in the game really do look like half human aliens, there colors are very well done, and the detail on this is also very good. Some details that need of some work are things like the shadows of the characters you can really see how pixilated the shadows are when your character walks around, and it would be really nice of your characters left foot prints in things like the snow and dirt. Also they could put more detail into the characters clothing. Rating: 8/10 Personal opinion: Very good. I love the way the characters look, and I think the graphics are wonderful! The maze design’s, are very grand. I do think the shadows of the characters need to be worked on, and it would have been really cool if your characters left foot prints in the dirt, and show. As for the clothing; eh I think it is good enough. I’m not one to judge a game just by its graphics; I look for difficulty, storyline and game play in all the games I buy. Personal Rating: 9/10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Sound/Audio: This is really where the game is lacking a lot. The sound doesn’t really go with any of the places, and doesn’t follow the mood of what is happening. The sound of your sword when it hits something doesn’t really sound right, it sound like a huge amount of needles dropping to the floor. Also the sound; sounds really grainy, and it doesn’t get better if you try to play on the Game Boy Player; the music sounds the same in every maze, yes the tune, and stuff like they are different, but it sounds like they just kept using the same instrument over and over again, but just changed the tune of it. Rating: 4.5/10 Personal opinion: I was greatly disappointed with the music and audio in this game, the timing of things is off, and the music gets really dull, and boring after a while. While I was playing this game I really didn’t get into the mood because of the music. I would have liked to seen voice over in this game too, I think that would have been really cool; if they did them right. Personal rating: 4\10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Replay Value: Another place where the game is lacking, you will not find yourselves playing this game again and again. If you play this game again nothing changes it is all the same. Also there aren’t any secret things to do, and you won’t miss a lot of things the first play through. However if you loved this game your first play through you will probably play it one, or two more times. Rating: 3\10 Personal opinion: Another big disappointment for me. I love games where you can play it again and again, and always find new things out. It would have been cool, if they added a hard mode, like in the Metroid games. Since I did like this game so much, I’ll probably play it again. Personal rating: 4/10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Difficulty: Very hard game, the puzzles in the mazes make you really think of what you are going to do, and where this, and that person is going to go, also in some puzzles you can’t always protect the other members of your party that is when it gets tricky, and you have to work through the puzzles fast. The puzzles in this game mostly are solved by hitting or standing on certain switches in a proper order. Also the bosses are very hard to fight; some strategy you have to use will take you four or five times before you get it down. What rings you equip will play a major role in fighting bosses. Rating: 9/10 Personal opinion: I love how hard this game is, that’s probably because I’m a big RTS fan. The puzzles are challenging, and make you really think, not like a lot of new games today where you can rush through, and beat it with ease. I also like how when you equip things it is not like you just put on the thing that will increase your power the most, sometimes you need to put on things that don’t increase your power a lot, but do some thing else for you, like protect you from poison. Personal rating: 10\10 ________________________________________________________________________ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Overall: This is a good game for anyone who is craving to play another RPG strategy like Final Fantasy Tactics on the Game Boy Advance. At such a low price this game is really worth the money, it will keep you busy for a least a month or two. Overall Rating: 7.5/10 (Above average) Personal opinion: This is a must have for any RTS/RPG fan. Personal Rating: 8.5/10 (Above average) ________________________________________________________________________ So how was it? |
