Oh I might as well repost this one too. (#6) :P I did this one a while back and have since added more sections and stuff as you see in my SSBM review. I'm lazy and don't feel like any more them so, voila.

Viewtiful Joe 2

Publisher: Capcom
Developer: Clover Studio
ESRB Rating: T (Cartoon Violence)
Platform: Gamecube
Gameplay: 9.9

Viewtiful Joe 2 plays like a dream. You control either Joe or Silvia and can tag team switch between them at any time during the game. The main difference between our protagonists (other than gender) is that Joe has "mach speed", is a little bit stronger than Silvia, and can punch, while Silvia has laser guns that are helpful for long-range attacks and has the VFX power "replay". They both share the ability to kick and use the "zoom in" and "slow" VFX powers. The game requires you to complete challenges that consist of about 60% killing enemies and 40% puzzle solving. Some of the puzzles are pretty difficult; you'll need to combine your VFX powers in myriad ways to solve the mindbending enigmas of VJ2.

Your VFX powers [mach speed (super fast), slow (duh), zoom in (zooms in on you to make you stronger and enemies scared), and replay (replays your actions 3 times in a row)] are invaluable, and you'll be using at least one of them almost every time you fight. Using VFX powers depletes your VFX meter, though. If your VFX meter runs out, you'll transform back from Viewtiful Joe or Silvia to just plain old Joe or Silvia respectively. When you're regular Joe/Silvia, you have no superpowers and have to wait for the VFX meter to refill in order to transform back to Viewtiful. You can increase the length of your VFX meter by collecting film canisters scattered throughout the levels.

Throughout the game, you'll earn V-points that can be used to purchase upgrades, more health/lives, and special abilities. You can get V-points for doing just about anything that involves fighting. If you use your VFX powers to defeat enemies, you'll be rewarded with even more V-points. Moreover, linking together combos in slow motion will give you insanely high amounts of V-points.

In addition to the main story, there is what is called "The 36 Chambers of Viewtiful". You unlock each chamber by completing something in story mode with a certain rank or time, or completing another chamber. Each chamber gives you a challenge that you must complete to beat the chamber. The scenarios range from killing all the enemies, in a set amount of time, dodging a whole bunch of swords being shot at you, getting a certain amount of V-points, et cetera.
Graphics: 9.5

Beautifully rendered, cel-shaded graphics are present Viewtiful Joe 2. The graphics have a cartoony style that are just realistic enough for the game to earn an ESRB rating of "T". When your VFX meter runs out from using you VFX powers too much and you turn into non-henshin form, the screen gets a little bit fuzzy, like an old 60's movie. Don't worry, it doesn't hamper gameplay at all, and the VFX meter restores quickly. This is one of many games that isn't done justice by mere screenshots because screenshots make the screen look cluttered sometimes. That's not the case at all; it's nothing short of amazing when you play it.
Audio: 7.7

VJ2's background music and sound effects are nothing special and can get a little repetitive. For example, mach speed attacks with Joe sound really annoying. Other than that, there's not too much else to say about the sound.
Storyline: 8.9

Viewtiful Joe 2 has a pretty simple, yet interesting story. Basically, it follows the story of a guy named Joe and his girlfriend, Silvia. The two of you possess mystical V-watches that, when activated, grant you superpowers (and supercool costumes). The mysterious Black Emporer has unleashed a plot to conquer Movieland and get rid of all the "happy endings" using the magical rainbow oscars. Our heroes travel through 7 reels (levels) consisting of several acts (sublevels) each. At the end of each act, you'll get a rating (V, A, B, C, or D) that depends on your time, defense and amount of V-points earned. Each reel has a different theme, such as futuristic, or snowy. The game has a couple plot twists, including a big surprise at the end. Jet Black, Joe's father, watches Joe's and Silvia's adventures from the real world on the big screen of the movie theater that he owns, all the while consuming massive amounts of popcorn and drinks.

It would help to have played VJ1 before playing VJ2 so you can have a better understanding of the Viewtiful Joe universe, but it's explained pretty well for those of you who are unenlightened. Will Joe and Silvia be able to find the rainbow oscars and defeat the Black Emporer before it's too late? It's up to you to find out.
Replay value: 7.2

The 36 Chambers of Viewtiful provide a good deal of replay value (if you manage to unlock them all, that is). The main game, however, while reallly difficult and will take a while to beat, offers little in the way replay. It is nice though, that the game lets you choose "kid" (easy) or "adult" (hard) modes for once you've already beaten the game and want more of a challenge.
Multiplayer: n/a

Overall: 9.3

Bottom Line: With humorous cutscenes, excellent graphics, and awesome movie-inspired action, Viewtiful Joe 2 is a must-have for the GCN.
