Looks like Coney Island is going thru a very similiar situation that Whalom faced:

By Larry Mcshane, Associated Press (Sept 3rd, 2007)

NEW YORK It's been a roller-coaster year for the owner of Coney Island's Astroland amusement park.
Carol Albert sold the venerable attraction last November to a developer and braced for a long, difficult goodbye. But then talks started to bring the park and its 370 employees back for one more year. Hopes were raised, then dashed.

Now, with Astroland possibly wrapping up its last Labor Day weekend after 45 years on the boardwalk the season ends Sept. 9 Albert is hoping for a last-minute deal to resurrect its bumper cars and the 275-foot Astrotower for 2008.

Another sad day for the historic classic parks! :( The fans of Coney Island should step up and speak their mind to Thor Equities and the media. At the very least they should get one more year out of them.

The owner of Astroland wanted 2. Thor is not closer to building his fantasy destination now then he was a year ago. The area will become a larger waist land then it already has under thor's ownership. like other projects we have seen come up the purposed project is worlds beyond the feasible truth for the area. no one will pay to say in a 5 stare hotel on the outskirts of Brooklyn.

The big Question is how long can Deno's hold out. they own their property. But I'm sure Thor has been on their back about selling their park as well. While the Wonder wheel is safe as is the Cyclone, Deno's Classic Pretzel dark ride is not protected.

I just read an article about Michael Bloomberg stepping in to try and mediate a lease agreement between Thor and Astroland. Alberts have yet to make a comment and Thor said there are no negotiations.

It will be interesting to see were this goes. i don't think thor will agree to a 2 year contract like Astroland wants. also thor likely would like to see the area as desolate as possible. If the area is struggling and empty putting a strain on other attraction like the Cyclones ballpark and the Aquarium the city might give in faster.
