anyone do IT for a living or know alot about video cards and how to install them? i'm thinking about buying a new card for my old HP desktop, which came with integrated video on the motherboard, not a removable card. i've been told i would need to disable the onboard card, but can't find a clear answer on the right way to do that (read various articles that disagree with each other) or even if it is really necessary to disable it to use a new card. last thing i need is to do something wrong and screw up my comp. help? I am no pro, Ace usually takes care of stuff like that. But, there's been times when either he didn't know or didn't care to fix something so I found my answers here... Tech Forums They usually give you a personal 'guardian angel' (as I call them) to guide you through whatever problems you're having. |

Yeah, I've replaced video cards but not from a system with an integrated card. |

I will certainly ask him. He works pretty late though so I wouldn't have an answer for you until morning. |

Sorry bloggy, just now getting around to this. Our weekends are so busy! Anyway, Ace said that you shouldn't have to disable the integrated video card at all. When you install the new one it should be recognized as the primary card, something like that. But, if there was a problem, then it is easy to disable. All you'd have to do is restart the computer, and while it is in the starting up mode one of the screens will tell you to press something like F9 or 'delete', you'd have to see what yours says, then I guess the computer will load up in the gray and white screen, kind of like the old fashioned computer screens, and then just follow the procedures laid out. I think I got that as close to what he said as possible. I sure hope so anyway, lol! |
