Inspired by the Percy Jackson film, I read the series of 5 books by Rick Riordan and thoroughly enjoyed them. Yeah, they are kid's lit, but very enjoyable in the same way as Harry Potter. The plots aren't so complex and detailed, but really fun, especially if you like Greek Mythology. They are also WAY better than the film. If you don't know, the premise is this: An awkward 12 year old boy with ADHD, dyslexia and a predilection for getting expelled from schools discovers he is a Demi-God and that the Greek Gods, Olympus and various mythological creatures are all real. He has to find out who he is, and through the books try to fight an emerging evil, and fight a prophecy which could decide his fate and the fate of the world. I am not reading The Red Pyramid, a series by Riordan using Egyptian mythology. |
