a girl at work read that Bob Hope's given name was Leslie and she concluded that he had been born a woman and at some point had a sex change operation.

Alright then. I was walking from work like usual, all cool and stuff, thinking about the hot assistant at the office. I was crossing this messed up intersection, and as I reached the middle of the street, this lady comes out of nowhere doing this crazy right turn into me. I turn my head around as I hear the car coming. I was like "FFUUUUUUUUUU" and smashed into the hood of the car, denting it slightly. After like 20 seconds she stops, catapulting me like 3 feet or so. I get up, dusted off my jeans, make sure everything was in its place, fixed my shades back up (which awesomely did not break or fall off), gave the lady a long cold stare, and kept on walking.
For future reference, you could also do this approach to deal with cars, as a pedestrian.

How does she explain Leslie Charteris, Leslie Claypool, Leslie Groves, Leslie Howard, Leslie "Gerald Ford" King Jr, Leslie Moonves, Leslie Nielsen or Leslie Phillips?

She didn't know about Leslie Nielsen?

What was she, like 6 years old?

They all had sex changes, obviously.

i dunno why she hadn't heard of Nielsen. i also convinced her that George Burns was born Georgina and had likewise had a sex change. yep, i know some rather gullible people. :D

thought about making a new thread about this, but this seems to be a bloggy type issue, and this is my blog, virtually unheard of tho it may be, so voila:

i'll call this post "Richard Dawkins' Express Elevator to a Hell he doesn't believe in" :yikes:

blurb!

basically Dawkins said that women cannot be raped in elevators, which he is obviously wrong about. but more interesting to me are the questions arising from from Watson's experience and her reaction to it. questions such as:

is asking someone for coffee a borderline sexual assault?

why was Watson upset? surely she has been hit on in hotels before...

is an elevator an inappropriate place to hit on someone? what if the genders had been reversed?

i wonder who was on the elevator first, or did they get on at the same time?

side notes: as Dawkins is a Brit shouldn't he have said 'lift' rather than 'elevator' ? and i forgot he is married to Lalla Ward. there always has to be a Dr Who connection, eh?

US-isms are corrupting the UK's English!

I don't see where Dawkins indicates "Women can't be raped in elevators", only that Watson was approached by someone who did nothing but talk to her and couldn't see why she'd feel threatened by that.

Mind you none of us were there, so making a judgment about the incident is going in without all of the facts, so...

there was more of Dawkin's whole quote on another site, he said something about it not being possible to be trapped in an elevator cuz you just press a button and the door opens etc. kinda overlooked the fact that an attacker might easily prevent that. but yeah, i'm more interested in the issues raised than making judgements since as you say we are rather underinformed on the specifics of the incident. one would have to talk to Watson at some length to really understand how she felt in that moment and why.
