part of my Gwyneth Paltrow kick, this film managed to be fairly good despite leaning a bit towards the bizarre. the characters and some of the plot were somewhat hard to believe, and tho they were to some extent dysfunctional by design, it made for a bit of a stretch at points. the whole bit about Richie being in love with Margot was a bit out there for my tastes (tho no doubt such things happen.) the acting was solid overall tho i don't care much for either Owen or Luke Wilson. Paltrow and Gene Hackman were particularly good, and Bill Murray and Danny Glover (both of whom i like) were good in their smaller roles. i generally like these 'quiet' (no lasers explosions etc) character studies, especially if they are well written and acted, and thus The Royal Tenenbaums gets a thumbs up from me. |
