Common Scams

There are many scams in the RuneScape world; some can even make you loose your account! The free to play world has the most scams because someone can just create an account and start scamming. Although this doesn’t mean that the member’s worlds don’t have people trying to scam you. A simple rule is: Don’t trust any one who you just meet. They might be a scammer!

Free amour trimming

The scammer will ask you if you want your amour trimmed (they may say something like: it's a new member's skill). They will then ask you for your amour, and then run off! There is also trimmed dragon hide; witch can not be trimmed also. Trimmed amour has a gold line on it and can only be obtained from members treasure trails. No one can trim, don't listen to anyone saying they can!

Trust trades

The scammer will take a few people to an area with not many people and will ask who trusts them the most, if you trust him the most you'll get a rare item. After you give him some items, and it works up to what the scammer is happy with, he'll run off! Don't give any thing out that you aren’t willing to loose.

Duplicating items

The scammer will tell you he knows how to duplicate items, and that he'll teach you how to. He will say something to drop something and press some buttons, the problem is is that it will close your screen! The scammer will then pick up your items and run off! There is no way to duplicate items!

Pass blocking

A scammer will say something like "You can't say your pass! See! ***** Try it!". When you try saying it, the scammer will take your account! Sometimes, he will get his friend to say it works also! Think for a second, why would someone be saying that any ways? Jagex does not block your password!

Selling accounts

Someone will say that they are selling a high leveled member account for X cash. If you pay it, they'll run away with your money! Wouldn't you feel better earning that account yourself? Also remember that account sharing/trading is not allowed.

Wine of Zamorak

A scammer will ask you to take the wine of Zamorak, and you'll gain some level ups or they'll pay you if you take the wine. When you take the wine, the chaos druids will attack you! If you aren't lucky, you'll die fast! If this happends to you, run out of the area fast!
There use to be a door there, until Jagex removed it because a lot of people were doing this scam.

Jagex staff impersonation
:
The scammer will message you, and say "I work for jagex staff and I need to check your account. Please give me your pass." or something like that. If you give him your password, they'll steal your account! Jagex staff will Never ask you for your password. Jagex staff will also have a gold crown next to there name when they speak, and you can't trade them:

Lureing
:
There are many places that you may be lured to by someone offering items. A simple solution is: Don’t trust anyone you just meet to go to the wilderness or any other dangerous area. No one can get stuck in an area, and wouldn't that be more important than selling some items? Never go anywhere dangerous to trade, you might die!

Untrustworthy players
:
Some players will ask you to borrow some rare item. Once they have it, they'll run off. If someone was your friend, they'd respect that you don't want to let them borrow it. People won't always run away with it, but to be safe, don't lend any items out.

Team Scam

One scammer will be buying an un commen, but useless item (probably why it's uncommon ) for 500k (or some other high price) someone is selling that item for 300k. People think "Oh, I can make 200k by buying it from him and selling to him. Once you have bought it, the person buying doesn't want it.

Note: Before you report the person say "X and X are team item scamming." Because you can only send one report, this will let jagex know that someone else is scamming.

Also, check them in the high scores. If they are offering to cut something that they can't, they are trying to scam you.

Drop Party

Some players will run around a busy world saying he'll have a drop party near the wilderness. He'll drop stuff inside and outside of the wilderness, and when the party is happening, you might not realize you're going to the wilderness.
