99% of all WW2 Submarine games are U-Boats in the Atlantic/Med or variations upon that theme. Variety is nice.

Yanks (and us Brits and Allies) waged quite an effective Submarine campaign against the Nips anyhow, Silent Hunter 2, or maybe 1 was set in the Pacific and was quite cool. :nods:

It can't be cool. Japanese had no ASW capability. You'd be just sinking undefended convoys. :nono:

Now playing a japanese submarine against yanks, that would be interesting. :hoff:
But that is not what SHIV is about. :nono:

The ruthless imperialism of Japanese is quite admirable.

Eh? Nips had a ton of Destroyers with ASW means protecting convoys, they wern't as good as the Royal Navy and Yank ASW doodads but we had more experience. Anyway a lot of the action should take place around coastal areas, like in the real Pacific submarine battlegrounds, quite a lot of low sea level bits, shoals and reefs to navigate with hardly any space to hide in would make for intense combat like it did in the real life.

And the Nips didn't run an extensive Submarine campaign comparable to the Yanks and Royal Navy et al. I suggest you read up on Pacific Submarine Operations, it's rather fascinating.

One Of Ours is a grand book about a British Submarine captains memoirs in the Second World War, half of that is dedicated to the Pacific War. Thrilling stuff. :ubootman:

Plus they added back in actual missions as well as patrols, so you might have to take recon photo's of a harbour, rescue downed pilots, ship special force wankers about, all historical shit Submarines did and also a feature that SHIII lacked like bastardry considering how the earlier games did have these missions.

I also think the patrol thingers are more accurate, rather than just spent a day patrolling one grid and that's your shit done, feel free to do what you like! You now have to spend a bit more time patrolling grids. :nods:

I'm looking forward to the game. :cute:

It'd rocked ten times more if they had fucking Royal Navy subs as well as Yanks though dammit. :rar:
