Forum Rules
Welcome to the Majinken Forums! This forum is dedicated to the "Tales of" series. The following context are rules regarding how one should act on the Majinken forums. Although it is long, it is recommended that all members know the following rules before posting. Otherwise, they may make a costly mistake. However, the Majinken Forums are lenient, so punishments will usually be replaced with warnings. TABLE OF CONTENTS 1: Basic Rules 1.1 - Spamming 1.2 - Double-Posting 1.3 - Flaming & Trolling 1.4 - Necroposting & Bumping Topics 1.5 - Cussing & Sexual Discussion 1.6 - ROMs and MP3s, and other illegal content 1.7 - Topic Invasion 1.8 - People Insults 1.9 - Spoilers 2: Forum Actions 2.1 - PM 2.2 - Creating Topics or Polls 2.3 - Editing and Deleting Posts 2.4 - Reporting to Moderator 3: Advertisements 3.1 - Topics 3.2 - Signatures or Posting 3.3 - Profiles 3.4 - Personal Messaging 4: Avatars and Signatures 4.1 - Image Advertising 4.2 - Avatar 4.3 - Signatures 5: Punishment 5.1 - Warning 5.2 - Suspension 5.3 - Demotion 5.4 - N00B Rank 5.5 - Ban 6: Other 6.1 - Ranks and Titles 6.2 - Member Groups 6.3 - Staff Members 6.4 - Plagiarism 6.5 - Multiple Accounts 6.6 - Name Change 6.7 - Contribution to Forums 1: Basic Rules 1.1 - Spamming: Spamming can be in a lot of forms forum-wise. First of all, spamming is basically random posts that are not essential in any way. For example: writing in l33t or typing random letters such as "omfg85938". In the Majinken Forums, spamming can be going way off-topic when unnecessary. Please do not go around the forums purposely goofing around. It is not necessary and it's annoying at times. Spamming is only allowed in the "Majinken!!!" category, which is all the way down from the opening page. 1.2 - Double-Posting: Double-Posting is posting 2 times in a row. Likewise, posting 3 or more times is beyond Double-Posting. In most cases, double-posting is not allowed because people sometimes use it to bump their topics for members to see it. Double-Posting is only allowed when someone has something relevant to post about the topic. Another example, such as fanart, is when someone wants to update their topic. 1.3 - Flaming & Trolling: Flaming and Trolling are two sides of the same coin, they relate to each other. First of all, Flaming is a term used for insulting someone on the internet. Such examples are "Screw you!" or "go to hell!". Any form of flaming is NOT allowed AT ALL. Flaming people from other forums and such are possibly allowed if they are already not a member on the Majinken Forums. Trolling is almost the same thing, but indirect. Basically, trolling is the act of provoking or urging another member to flame you in order for them to get into trouble. Trolling examples are semi-direct references to someone you hate such as: "Well...at least I don't suck...unlike a certain SOMEONE I know in this forum...*cough*Judas-fan*cough*. Trolling is just as bad as flaming so please do not do it. If someone is trolling to you, please contact a Moderator or Administrator and let them handle it. 1.4 - Necroposting & Bumping Topics: Necroposting and Bumping usually means bringing back a topic that has not been very active. Necroposting in specific means replying to a topic that has already been inactive for 14 days, which means there was NO reply to that topic for over 14 days. Necroposting is usually not allowed, but not serious to break. However, it is recommended that you do not do it because it's DEAD for a reason. And bringing back a DEAD topic is kind of useless. There are some exceptions however; such as bringing back a DEAD topic for an update or a heads-up. 1.5 - Cussing & Sexual Discussion: Cussing, as you should already know, is foul language. Some examples are "Damn, Fuck and Shit!". Most cussing is not allowed, but it's tolerable. Some examples of tolerable cussing are "Damn, Crap and Ass!". However, deeper levels of cussing such as "Fuck, Shit, Bastard and Whore!" are NOT allowed to be used under most circumstances. They are very abrupt and disturbing, please do not cuss too much. Sexual Discussion is another thing. Yes, there ARE female members on the Majinken Forums and they do NOT appreciate it when guys speak pervertedly about the female body. Likewise about the male body. In the Majinken Forums, it is okay to talk about cleavage, bust, legs and butt. But please DO NOT go anymore detailed than it has to be. It's okay to say "She has big breasts!", but not okay to say something like "WHOA, my dick could go deep into that pussy!". Direct discussion on nude body parts and sexual activity are strictly prohibited. Please do not break these rules. 1.6 - ROMs and MP3s, and other illegal content: ROMs and MP3s, unfortunately, are off limits on this forum. On most cases, it is okay, but do not post links to entire OSTs of video games or bands. ROMs are playable files of video games while MP3s, are playable files of music. Both are not allowed to be downloaded, and for that matter, to be allowed on this forum. The main reason is because video games and music are MADE by people who make money off of them by making and selling it. If you share ROMs and MP3s to friends, that's one or more less customers that the producers get, and therefore, less money. THAT is why ROMs and MP3s are illegal unless an individual already owns it, but that would be hard to enforce the law, as it already is. Other illegal content are posting viruses and such to members. This is NOT allowed at all of course. But it goes beyond that. Sexual content is NOT allowed on the forums. They include: hentai, pornography, nude pictures and sexual videos or photos. ALL PICTURES MUST NOT HAVE NUDE!!! The only pictures that are sexual but acceptable, is when they show NO nude; they may be suggestive and revealing but they show no nude. If you are unsure of this, please contact a Moderator or Administrator. 1.7 - Topic Invasion: Topic Invasion is basically going on someone else's topic and talking about a different topic. This is only pointless and annoying. An example would be Artist B posting his art on Artist A's topic when Artist B himself should be posting his art at his OWN topic. Topic Invasion is not allowed, so please do not do it. STAY on topic and don't relate too much to other topics. 1.8 - People Insults: People insults are basically insulting characters from a video game or actors in real life. This is not allowed because there are members on the Majinken Forums who may be huge fans of certain people like Kiefer Sutherland or Kratos Aurion. Insulting those characters will anger the fans of such characters and it may start a flame war between members. Therefore, please do not insult characters. It is much better if you were to criticize someone or despite what they do. Expressing hate about someone is different than insulting them. 1.9 - Spoilers: In this forum, spoilers are a huge issue. Whether it's about a Tales game, other game, T.V show, movie or anything of the sort, spoilers SHOULD be kept hidden. To counteract the spoiler problem, you should text them WHITE, and in front of the text, type "SPOILERS!" in bold and upper-case. 2: Forum Actions 2.1 - PM: PM is short for Personal Message. A PM is basically a private message from one member to another, or more. It's a way of having direct contact with someone on the forums or to let members know something important. Private messaging is very useful on this board, but don't PM something you would post on a forum. 2.2 - Creating Topics or Polls: A topic is what it is; a thread for people to discuss the title. Creating topics is very simple, it's where to create a topic is important. Please create topics in the appropriate forum, for example, don't post a Tales of Symphonia topic on the Tales of the Abyss forum. Polls are usually a vote-topic in which members each have 1 vote. It's basically an add-on to a discussion depending on what topic it is. 2.3 - Editing and Deleting Posts: Editing a post is basically changing the context of a post to correct any typos, mistakes or misconceptions. Please do not abuse this action because some people may have the audacity to flame and hide it by editing their own posts. Deleting post is when you eliminate a post because you probably double-posted on accident. Again, like editing, please do not abuse the deleting action to hide something consistently or something. 2.4 - Reporting to Moderator: In every post, there is an option that allows you to report to a Moderator. Basically, if you see something wrong, you click the Report button and a Moderator or Administrator will be notified so that she or he would handle the situation. This should be used if a Staff Member is not online but a member is currently breaking rules. 3: Advertisements 3.1 - Topics: When advertising, making a topic about it is one of the worst ways to advertise. For example, a member may start a topic titled "JOIN MY FORUMS!!!". This type of advertising is NOT allowed and the topic will be immediately DELETED. Advertisement is basically posting a link to another site or forum, in specific. 3.2 - Signatures or Posting: You may NOT advertise in your signatures or while posting. Posting an advertisement is usually not allowed because it's meant to steal members away from a forum when they are already at a forum they should be at. The only exception is IF your site is affiliated with the Majinken Forums, then you may advertise, but advertising via images is NOT allowed. ALSO, the only way you MAY advertise other than affiliation is when you specifically ask an ADMINISTRATOR for permission. From there on, you can advertise in your signature by using a URL, and underneath, state which admin you have obtained permission from. If you lie about obtaining permission, then there will be strict punishments. 3.3 - Profiles: A sneaky way to advertise is using the profile, which is very ineffective. It IS allowed however, and can be done without permission. However, they cannot be linked to illegal sites or sites with adult content. 3.4 - Personal Messaging: One of the most irritating ways to advertise is by PMing members on the Majinken Forums. PMing members to advertise is NOT allowed and will be punished heavily if done so. PMing to advertise is a way of trying to hide from the rules, which is why it is a serious rule. 4: Avatars and Signatures 4.1 - Image Advertising: Image Advertising is going beyond URL links and posting in signatures or topics a site linked with an image. This is an effective way to advertise, and is NOT allowed on the Majinken Forums. Do not come here thinking advertising will be simple and easy, because we will NOT allow advertisers to take advantage of Majinken Forum. Image Advertising is OFF-LIMITS no matter what. 4.2 - Avatar: In every forum, there is an avatar. In the Majinken Forums, Avatar limits are 100x100 and 25KB maximum. Any avatars larger than that are not allowed. Fortunately, in the Majinken Forums, there is an Avatar Gallery specifically for this forum, and that gallery consists of avatars created by one of our own members: Bunnywisk. 4.3 - Signatures: We are very lenient in signatures in this forum. You can host up to at least 3 images in your signature, the height and width limit have no specifications. However, any signatures that are too tall are not allowed. As for width, any width is allowed as long as it does NOT stretch the page. 5: Punishment 5.1 - Warning: A warning is a small punishment given to members for breaking the rules. Usually, there are two types of warnings. A verbal warning, which is basically nothing but a warning. And then there is an actual Warning, where a Moderator or Administrator raises the percentage bar of a member. This percentage bar goes from 0 to 100. The higher the bar, the more likely a member will be banned. This bar is to remind members that they should behave under the rules if they want to stay on the Majinken Forums. Anyone who reaches 100 will be instantly banned. If you happen to get a percentage raise, and you wish to lower it, then you must NOT break a rule for a few days, and it will be lowered. HOWEVER, you CANNOT ask a Moderator or Administrator to lower the percentage FOR you, for obvious reasons. 5.2 - Suspension: An alternative way of a punishment would be Suspension. Basically, a member who is suspended cannot post or PM members on the forums for a set amount of days or hours. This is a serious punishment that can be given out by Moderators. 5.3 - Demotion: A demotion is a downgrade in ranking or title. For example, an Admin can be demoted to a Moderator, a Moderator may be demoted to a Veteran and so forth. However, the person doing the demoting may go more than just 1 rank. Demotions are given out when members of a higher rank are misbehaving when they should be setting an example for the lower members. 5.4 - N00B Rank: A worst demotion would be the N00B rank. Basically, N00Bs have broken the rules way too much, and therefore, they will be heavily demoted for a month or more. N00Bs lose the privilege of editing posts, starting topics, and various other downsides that will make them regret misbehaving. Please keep in mind that a N00B rank is a way of punishment, not to make an example out of someone and humiliate them. So therefore, the rules STILL apply to them. 5.5 - Ban: When a member has not learned a single lesson, then it is necessary to ban them. In this forum, the banning will be severe as it will BAN the IP and E-mail address of the member who is getting banned. In other cases, such as bots coming in and members flaming without regret, bans will be given out without warnings. It depends on the situation and who is enforcing the rules. 6: Other 6.1 - Ranks and Titles: Ranks and Titles are 2 sides of the same coins. Titles are just neat names underneath your avatar like "Commandant" or "Wild Sabre". As you accumulate more posts, your title will change into a better title. At some times, admins may give out custom titles depending on the situation such as "Welcome Wagon" or "Perverted Punk". As you can see, they can be positive or negative, and sometimes, sarcastic. You may also ask for your own title, but not too much at a time. Ranks are a different story. They determine the influence of a member. Each member starts out an ordinary member of course. Depending on how wise or well-experienced a member is, they may be promoted to Veterans, where they will have more privileges such as a bigger inbox and no flood control. 6.2 - Member Groups: In this forum, there are member groups. First and foremost, the Member; they are normal, common and of course, everyone starts as a member. There is nothing much to say about Members. N00Bs have already been explained previously; they are being punished and have certain privileges taken away. Banned members, as the name suggests, are banned from the forums. Veterans are a class between Members and Moderators. They are wiser, experiences and are more likely to be promoted to the Staff when the time comes. They also have some more privileges than Members do. Beyond the Veteran class are Staff Members, which are hand-picked by the current Staff Members or in some cases, by popular vote. Please DO NOT ASK TO BE PROMOTED because it is selfish and greedy. You will be instantly denied and may never be recommended during a promotion. 6.3 - Staff Members: Staff Members are the top members of the forum. There isn't much of a difference between a Member and a Staff Member because Staff Members just ENFORCE the rules. There is nothing special or "cool" about being a Staff Member because they are just there to uphold the rules. Remember, being a Staff Member is a responsibility, not a privilege. They are chosen to LOOK over the forums. Like being a Veteran, you CANNOT ask to be a Staff Member because you will be automatically denied. Staff Members are hand-picked because they are very trusted by the current Staff. 6.4 - Plagiarism: Plagiarism is one of the most serious rules, if not the most. Plagiarism is when someone takes art from another artist and claim it as their own. These arts vary from sprites, smilies, banners, styles to pictures. Plagiarism is STRICTLY prohibited, and anyone who plagiarizes will be instantly banned from the forums. No exceptions. When you steal, you should KNOW you are stealing. You cannot claim an art as your own from the internet and be innocent about it. This is why plagiarism is NOT allowed. Using art from somebody else is dishonest and selfish. 6.5 - Multiple Accounts: Multiple accounts are NOT allowed in the Majinken Forums. Although multiple e-mail accounts are not allowed, some members may use another e-mail to join a forum and make a 2nd account. Multiple accounts are a low way to support yourself in a majority way and is NOT allowed. If you are unsatisfied with your current account, contact an Admin to delete your account so that you can make a new one. But before making another account, please notify the admin. 6.6 - Name Change: In the Majinken Forums, you are allowed to change your name. However, you must contact an admin to do so. Certain forum names are of course, not allowed such as "Kratos-hater" or "YouSuck". It has to be an appropriate name. Also, you can only ask to change a name once every 2 weeks. If you ask more than once in under 2 weeks, you may lose your privilege to change names. 6.7 - Contribution to Forums There IS a way to get into the good praises of the staff members. First of all, you can start by contributing. Contributing to this forum varies from a lot of things. You can give the forum special features via paying. For example, to remove the advertisements at the top of the forum. Another thing you can do is to make specific Skill/Tech lists for various Tales series. An example of such a tech list would be the one in the Tales of the Abyss section. You can also start a dialogue topic, sypnosis, monster list, battle system explanation or whatever that is specfic in each Tales game. It's recommended that you PM an administrator before starting these topics, but its unnecessary. However, if you want to contribute out of the blue, please make it specific. For information topics, make a nice Table of Contents, with correct titles and bolded or underlined titles and sections.
