dash dancing is a very useful mind game mainly used to get your opponent tricked into a position that you want them in before you execute your actual approach.

IE:

Flux vs M2K - Fox Ditto
---
1: Flux dash dances near M2K's shield.
2: M2K waits for Flux to attack so he can shield grab and chain grab him!
3: M2K is so confused that he drops his shield to try to commence a full force attack!
4: Flux sees his opponent in the exact position that he wants him in and runs in with an up smash!
5: FLUX WOLF WINS MLG MINNESOTA 10,000$ GRAND PRIZEEEEEE.

^-^

Edit: But really, probably the best thing to do is to pick your favorite pro-smasher and watch vids of them to see how they incorporate it into their game and try to mimic that.

You can also Pivot while dash-dancing. During a dash dance there is exactly one frame where your character is standing straight up. During that frame you can do any ground action you want (smash, tilt, grab, jab, jump, etc). This is awesome for people with long initial dash animations (like Marth for instance), who can dash dance around, get within sweet-spot range and then f-smash. Marth also has a very nice tech-chase vs fast-fallers that involves pivoting d-tilts.

So anyway, add this to what Flux said and you have why dash dancing is useful.

Sidenote: Wasn't there some FC6 match were PC repeatedly dash-danced in and out of M2K's grab range and then dashed back in to a grab or something (f-throw, I think)? I think it was FC6 finals, but I couldn't find it and I kinda gotta run. Anyway, that's a good example of dding being useful for mindgraines.

Didn't you post that exact match in a mindgames thread on SWF to prove that mindgames exist?

Yeah that topic was a long time ago iirc. Nice memory if we're thinking of the same one.

I think it happened on Pokemon Stadium too.

On topic: So yeah, I'd like to attend these, but I don't know about bus routes/car pools and I have stuff on Thurs/Fri nights. So I'll probably be unable to make most of these.

Yeah I remember that game... Such a hot dash dance. I wish pc would have kept playing falco more.

By the way you can dash dance in brawl, you just have to wait a bit longer in between dashes. it's similar to a fox trot in melee.
