I think it's not a bad thing, it's fun and if you play more chars you have more options. I play Fox,Falco,Marth,Sheik,Falcon,Doc,luigi and honestly don't believe playing any of them more than the other detracts from one. I have pretty much mastered all technical aspects of my chars except doc/luigi and the only thing I would have to work on is mindgames. And I know that playing marth then playing fox will not mess up my mindgames with the other. maybe it's just me but I see no problem in playing multiple chars seriously.

I don't have much to say about this topic, but I play 5 characters, and I feel like I can compete with any of them (ask Aaron about my mains, lol). I know I could have probably become one of the best in BC if I had just played Falco for 2 years straight, but I find it more fun to play Fox/Puff/Sheik/Marth as well. Another reason I do this is because I don't have any character that has no bad match-ups. In other words, I rely heavily on counter-picking. Whenever I go to a tournament, I look at everybody's mains, and sometimes do some research online before I attend one. This way, I can plan my matches out, and often times counterpick people on the first round. I really enjoy doing this, and I think I'm technically proficient enough with all these characters to use them in tournaments.

The only problem I have with that strategy is that you'd be using your secondary to handle your main's bad matchups. Most people aren't quite as skilled with their secondary as they are with their main, so the advantage isn't as strong as it may seem.

What I'm trying to do is learn how to go against ALL characters with Samus. A one-trick pony of sorts.

Yes, but sometimes main match ups are so bad, or so frusterating you do better with secondaries. I've never beaten a Ice Climbers in tourney play with sheik, never. Well maybe teams, but that is it. Bwolf can attest to this, I usually end up playing him every tourney we're in lol. I play alot of peach with against someone who goes Jiggs, Fox, Falco, and Marth lol, and plays them all at least decently, so I have a good grasp. But that could vary from time to time.

I think it's better than trying to play 5 different characters in tourney play. When you play 2, you usually cover most of the match ups, and you can focus more than playing with 5.

Although getting a more solid counterpick can be good, so can being better with less characters (but obviously being more skilled than if you had 5).

5 chars: more counterpicks-in-your-favor.

2 chars: don't need counterpicks in your favor, you already own with your main/2ndary.

is the game intending to have some chars counter others (pichu low range vs marth high range) or is it that smash was intended to have 26 different (for the most part, don;t whine about clones, hehe) characters that can be played equally? by equally i mean each foe has as many counters for you as you have for your foe.

hmmm. after some thinking, I feel like we're just jumping into generic game theory. blah blah!

in the end, I think no matter how many people you main, you main that many and have fun doing it. isn't that the reason we play? we have fun.
