ok so I am really bored right now and have decided to make a Captain Falcon guide for everyone that wants to learn how to play a decent one. Techniques you should already know.... -L canceling -Wavedashing (not neccessarily needed but can be helpful) without L canceling Falcon is terrible and you pretty much need it at all times. Techniques to learn... DASHDANCING This is a very helpful strategy against any player and should be used often. reasons to use it... -can be used to approach someone. It can make your opponent not know when you are going to strike. -overall all the best falcons use to approach with a jump canceled grab which I will talk about next. JUMP CANCELING GRABS This is pretty much the falcon approach most falcon players use. Learn it well. reasons to use it... -without it falcons grab is very laggy and will leave you open when you miss a grab. -to me it looks like it has more range. -overall its for the speed that a good falcon player needs. HOW TO DASHDANCE... All you do is run back and forth. The faster you do this motion, the less space you will cover on the platform. It is actually better to space it out so you can cover the most ground possible with your dashes careful not to go to far or the turn around animation will occur. The more you practice this the better you will get. Soon you will be able to approach your opponent with it by making your distance longer towards the direction you want to go. This can/should be used with the JUMP CANCELING GRABS technique. HOW TO JUMP CANCEL GRABS... (note: YOU MUST USE EITHER X OR Y TO DO THIS) this is also very simple to learn. When you're running at someone press x/y slightly before pressing Z. Very close to the same time but it is not. If you did it right Falcon will slide with his grab and no longer looks like hes about to fall after the grab. USING THE NEW TECHNIQUES... the only way I can explain this is to tell you what I do with my falcon so that is what I shall do. -I approach by dashdancing towards them. If they jump I either use Nair or Kneecap to hit them. The main strategy however is the tech chasing and this happens if they were to block. My simulation will be with a fox and what you should do. Ok so he blocks you do the JUMP GRAB CANCELING and when you grab you should either throw up or down depending on what you want to do next. THROWING UP-after you throw up don't move right away and take a second to see where your opponent is moving. immediately follow after and try grabbing again. repeat and you either mess up or want to kill them. killing-after the grab you try to predict there roll and do a short hop Dair which should send him up high enough for either another Dair or a Forward B depending on what % the fox is at. If you catch him with the Forward B, use up smash, then jump to a kneecap. This is pretty much always instant death if you catch them with it. after you throw up at later percents like 35-50% you can do a Nair to a knee. THROWING DOWN-(this is if your quick and your opponent is off-guard) almost always if you grab and throw down right away your opponent will roll away from you usually as far away from you as possible. Which means after the grab while they are rolling away you run up and pop a kneecap in their face. This occurs more often then you might think and is still very handy thing to know. those are my main 2 strategys with Falcon when i'm fighting against FAST FALLERS. against FLOATERS its a bit of a different story... instead of tech chasing you will rely on more simple combos to kill them. -one simple and very good way is to down throw to kneecap. Your opponent cant get away from this unless they are very high % or you mess up. kneecaps kill floaters very quickly and is falcons strongest move so be sure to throw a few in each life. -Uairs can be good since falcon has good range with it though mainly rely on kneecap as a finisher. Heres the list of fast fallers and floaters... FAST FALLERS Falco Fox Falcon FLOATERS Jigglypuff Peach Luigi Samus G&W(can be comboed like one) HOW TO MOONWALK (every falcon wants to know this since it looks so cool) not very useful but this is how you do it. dashdance and once you get to the side you want, you bring the joystick down and around 180 degrees and hold it once you get to the other side. This can be tricky at first. The faster you do it the better it looks. AGAIN ONLY FOR SHOW. SUCKS IN BATTLE. and that is my crappy c.falcon guide if you have any questions feel free to ask on this page and ill respond shortly. Also if you found something wrong or need help with one of the things I covered. He is not my main but is one of the 6 characters I play pretty good. I plan on making guides for my other characters soon. THIS IS FOR THE MN PEOPLE. Let me know what you think of it. QUESTIONS ASKED... when in a tech chase do I do Dair? I do Dair when they have 30% at least to start up my combos. Or predict where they are rolling and Dair in that spot. when to do Nair? I often instead of running in for a grab I instead run up close enough to hit them but out of there grab range and use Nair. In other words I fly at them with a short hop and Nair towards them but land early enough so that the cant grab me and immediently after I land, I follow up with a grab and this works often. It also works on Peachs and marth to spam this move and follow up with a kneecap. This takes time to learn and requires alot of practice. |

This guide is sweet, it's simple yet tells people what they really need to know. I can't wait for the marth one. I want to read that. |

Pretty schweet Aaron, I use up on the control stick to jump-cancel-grab, so that's another way you can do it. |

Wait was that sarcastic Aaron? I'm pretty sure you could do whatever I can do. I can't even do the moonwalk worth a shit. You're the guy who can bomb drop with Link. You gotta teach me that sometime by the way, if I ever get out to smash with you guys again...Although...I do have spring break next week, maybe I'll have a mid-week smashfest at my house...gotta run it by my roommate. Oh, and Marth is technically a comboable floater, he can just keep Falcon away with his sword making him harder to reach with knees and whatnot. Like my roommate plays Marth mainly, and if I'm Falcon I can basically combo him easily because he's still very much learning. |

This is actually a really sweet guide. I have a few suggestions for you to add on: What are your uses for nair? When to do dair in a tech chase instead of going for a grab? |

how do you feel about tech chasing with side+b? if done right you can cover if they roll to the side and if they go straight up, but doesn't work if they do their getting-up-attack. would it better to play it safer and not use side b for techchasing? stick to other means...? |

if you are having trouble connecting with your grabs for tech chasing then yes I would try to sneak in a side B attack. Otherwise if you use it too much a good opponent will take advantage of it and kill you. I usually like to do it after I have hit them with Dair and they go high enough to the point where I know that its gonna hit. I hope that answers your question. |

Is it possible to accurately tech-chase 100% with d-air / knee? I've only been able to by predicting the direction they're going to roll (33% chance? lol). |
