Lately my Marth hasn't really been improving much. Mainly for a few reasons, which have been told to me by advice from fellow players. First of all, I need to learn how to short hop double fair... I can't do it! I tried using the z button for a while thinking it would be easier, but I usually ended up doing jump canceled grabs instead. I'm sure A might be the best option but I still just cant seem to get it no matter how much I try. If any of you out there are advanced Marth players and have any advice to how you went about learning it back in the day that would be awesome. Thanks a lot. :P

Well I don't play Marth (Roy FTW), but hopefully I can still help.

To short hop double fair I tilt forward on the control stick, short hop with Y and then press A twice to double fair, L-canceling the second fair. I just lightly tilt forward the whole time.

That's the way I do it, and it works every time. ^_^

You have to fair really fast after short hopping, otherwise you won't get two in. There's a certain timing to the second fair that you eventually get used to. If you can't get the second fair, just tap A repeatedly. But I'd rather just hit A twice.

You'll be able to do it with practice. Basically just get use to initiating attacks the moment you jump in the air, the faster you can get the first fair out the better chance of you getting the 2nd fair.

But basically I press A right when I short hop then press it again after Marth is about to start to drop back to the ground.

You can always try to time when Marth finishes his first fair, by going 1 mississippi... yeah.

when i'm facing left i can do it with the c stick easily... when i'm facing right i have to use a, but i usually get it. don't only practice double fairs, practice short hop fair-uair and short hop fair-dair. both can be used effectively to combo.

Hey I actually got it kind of! I don't know how well I will do in a real match but I'm getting it almost every time now in training and against lvl 1's. I can even do it moving backwards for the 1st fair.

I just practiced it with the c-stick until I could do it fast enough.

What you should really be practicing is spacing your aerials so that you hit with the tip and land just out of the opponent's grab range. Otherwise you'll just get shieldgrabbed whenever you land.

Thanks BlueWolf that's a really good thing to work on. Because come to think of it I do get shield grabbed a lot. Never thought of that.

I think spacing is what separates nub marth from ken. that and reaction speed.

now practice the Nair. A good marth has many uses for it. I keep trying to teach greenbunny to use it more often but he got into too big of a habit to break with his spamming Fairs.

Spacing is the key with marth. In my opinion a defensive marth is better then a very aggressive marth. Thats what I know about marth. Right now I like roy more just because nobody plays him.

Yeah, Sparrow... That video and the things you talked to me about on that day are pretty much the basis on my entire game with Marth. Even though you don't play as him you still gave me some really good advice to build on, it really helped a lot. Thanks.
