The Vella Family has a rich and varied history, going so far back that their own origins are obscured by the mist of time on Earth-That-Was. Those lucky enough to be made full Family members are fiercely loyal and even the Families associates are respectful. Time has a way of wearing away at old institutions and corruption even at the highest level has a way of spreading. After the recent fall of the MacLiam Family on Persephone, what should have been one of the Vella Family's crowning achievements, a coup from within the highest leadership of the Vella Family rocked it to it's core. Anthony Vella is on the lamb and Calanthe Villa has taken over the reigns of the family. Villa is an offshoot of the Vella family tree. One that was considered a pariah by the old, true, Vella blood because of some betrayal that took place back on Earth-That-Was. The coup has turned crew against crew, individual against individual. Though animosity runs rampant the wheels of business keep turning and when that business is on Londinum, a Vella stronghold, business booms. Londinum 1100 hours The rain pours down onto the car windshield as it exits it's third checkpoint. The near marshal law imposed by the Alliance after the news announcement of the Terrorist ship Glory and her most wanted crew is a minor hindrance at best. The Vella Ident cards the Family provides easily get the occupants through. It has, however, made traffic a bitch. Inside the car sit Laurie Greco and her crew. Adrian Fitzgerald is straining to see through the rain as he pulls the car back out into traffic. Next to him sits James Mao looking at his watch hoping they can make it to the restaurant on time. This job was his idea after all. Laurie sits directly behind Adrian with Vanessa Harvey in between her and Jonathan Jonathan. The car itself is a land cruiser. Jet black, leather interior comfortably fitting them all in there. Not their usual ride but with the landlock in place it was the only way to go for now. Bumper to bumper traffic quickly dissipates and forward progress is once again being made. The restaurant, Sid's Biz, is in a very nice financial district in the downtown area of the city. On a normal day no more then twenty minutes away from this crew's base of operations. Hurried pedestrians shuffle by newsvids over their heads in a vain attempt to keep the rain off of them. The car moves swiftly now towards it's destination. |

Laurie stared out of the window and through the hazy rain. Despite being stuck in the dense traffic, surrounded on all sides by people and the looming city, the veil of grey rain made her feel almost alone. The car, on the most part, was silent within. Everyone was counting down to the job at hand. It had been a while since Laurie had taken to the field, at least for something this big. A nervous excitement hid behind her glassy stare. Absently she looked down at feet where an elegantly wrapped rectangular gift box sat - a formal grey paper wrapped with a gold trimmed white ribbon. Simple, elegant. And filled with firearms. She sighed, smiled, turned her attention to the others in the car. "Check points have been a breeze. Just as planned. What's next?" Laurie'swords were directed to Mr Mao in the front seat. A man with the kind of experience she strived for, a man with a whole lot of untold stories behind his eyes. While she might be leading the show, today was his day. It was his plan, after all. |

Vanessa squirmed in the seat next to Laurie. Being so close to the Boss made her a little nervous. She prefered personal space, and being crammed into a vehicle, all be it a luxurious sedan, made her feel confined and trapped. At least she was among those she trusted. It helped. She scratched the tip of her nose. "Just hoping this job goes better than that last gig. Ta ma de. Jen dao met* that we lost our initiative." She turned to look back out the rear window, checking to make sure they weren't being followed. [~ pops, had to change shoes after determines the best outfit for the job. ~] *Just our luck*

Jonathan looked out of the window, taking in the sights and the poor weather. In reality he was studying the car, listening to conversations and getting a feel for everyone. He knew of everyone here, even shared company with some of them. Everyone here was family, but he still felt disconnected. He was a solo artist. If he wanted to progress in the family though, he had to work with the family. This was necessary and worth getting used to. Most of all, Jonathan had noticed Vanessa beside him. She came off as fidgety, trying to get comfortable and turning for windows. He sighed and tugged at the collar of his black shirt. This long car journey was getting to him. "Can we consider running over a few of these pedestrians." |

Mao liked the timing. Late was better than early for phase one. He leaned over his shoulder to go over the plan again. They'd discussed, but it was his practice to emphasize the basics just before. The important stuff. Something would go sour and a deviation required, but the destination remained the same. "Four men, back corner booth by the kitchen and restroom doors. They'll be half drunk already, sitting at a table that can hold six. Most of the tables will be full. Vanessa looking for a place to sit will take one at their table. They'll be accommodating. Laurie stays close to provide any distractions required. Adrian stays with the car, no one will ask 'him' to move on if he over parks a few minutes." James Mao's information came from one of his older and more reliable sources. Of course it would require a finder's fee of ten percent, but these men were carefully chosen. Armored car company employees. Not the pick of the litter. They were just off shift and would be at their usual place. Drinking heavily. "Vanessa sizes them up, drugs one. Probably Charles. He's the loosest talking, weakest link of a chain made of straw. He'll head to the bathroom. Simple snatch and grab by Jonathon and myself, out the side door and to the alley. Syringe of SodioPentatholium and he'll give up the schedule and route of Armored Car 99, names, passwords. Laurie and Vanessa hang back to make sure we get the information and don't have to move to a second mark. Then leave him passed out until well after the job." He looked at the eyes of everyone. The location was ideal, even if someone saw something they'd look away. It was a crappy joint. The place was full of late shift workers finishing drinks after working the night before. "A review of the ideal places to make the robbery, probably during a handoff of cash." ![]() |

Adrian sat straight backed and relaxed in the driver's seat, a hint of a smile ghosting his lips. He was admittedly a litter concerned about working with this group. They were all very skilled in their own fields, and several of them were far higher ranking in the organisation than Adrian himself, but all the same working with an unfamiliar group was always a risk. Adrian could sense that several of the others shared his thoughts. As Mao went back over the plan, Adrian grinned to himself. The old man had correctly identified his reputation as useful, and integrated it into his plan. Mao was certainly proving his own reputation as a master tactician to be very much true. The truck stop suddenly appeared out of the rain, and Adrian swiftly indicated and left the soul-sucking boredom of traffic and parked outside. He cut the engine and looked at the three occupants of the back seat in the mirror. "Well ladies and gentlemen, the time to act is upon us. Good luck to you all." With that he opened his car door, deftly scooping up the black umbrella that had been resting by his feet, and got out the car. He quickly opened the umbrella and did the same for Laurie's car door, proffering the umbrella to her with a polite smile. Edited by Unit894, Jan 21 2016, 01:16 AM.

Laurie smiled to her feet, said nothing, and composed herself again before looking up to hear the plan one last time. She was beginning to warm to some of these familiar faces. It wasn't a totally unknown family, after all. She's met with some of them before, read the files on others. Hell, she was pretty sure she'd shared a meal with her father and Mao back in the day. A distant memory now, but the kind of personable link a good leader needed. As the eldest of the group spelled out the plan once more, methodically and with a succinct air that Laurie couldn't help admire, she took in the reactions of the rest of her colleagues. Nobody seemed nervous or unsure. These were professionals. She's known this from the start, having been briefed on the kind of party she was leading out into the city, yet it was always reassuring to see first hand the confidence of those she was about to rely upon. It was a simple, straight forward hit, but regardless the stakes were high. Just the way she liked it. After Mao had finished his briefing she just nodded, turning her attention to the grey mist outside. The car began to slow. "Easy as pie, then. You all know your role. Let's get it done by the book." That was her pep talk for now. These people didn't need babysitting. As the vehicle came to a stop, Laurie gathered up the grey package at her feat and zipped up the heavy jacket as the door opened before her. Smiling with a polite nod, she stepped out into the temporary shelter Adrian was proving and closed the car door, wincing dramatically to the icy wind. "Thank you, Mr Fitzgerald. And good luck to you. Shall we?" Laurie turned her attention to the restaurant just down the street a little. Ridiculous name and all, it looked like the perfect place for their kind of business. In twenty minutes or so, it'd all be done. Without a hitch, she thought. |

As the car drifted to a halt, Vanessa pulled her hoodie up over her long tresses, and shifted in the seat, getting ready to leave. She started to slide out the same door Laurie was leaving, but then when the door closed behind the other woman, she swiveled and followed Johnathon out his door. She reached into her pocket to make sure the capsule was still intact, and smiled darkly. The drug would act within seconds, and cause retching and foul tasting bile once ingested. She had a backup, as well. Her short skirt and patterned hose showed off her shapely legs, and strappy stilettos. She swung her compact purse over her shoulder and straightened up, gaining five extra inched in height before striding forward behind the man ahead of her.

Not a soul took notice of the group as they entered the restaurant. A haggard waitress behind the counter gave a "seat yourself" nod and went back to rushing around. There nestled in the back booth, as Mao's informant predicted, were the marks they were looking for. |

JAMES MAO He remained standing at the counter having ordered pie and coffee. Then he surveyed the room. It looked good. Several of the patrons were off shift workers enjoying food and drink. The back table was not in much of a line of sight of anyone. No one suspicious, nothing setting off at little alarms. Mao looked to Jonathon and nodded like a couple strangers do to silently say hi. He remained standing at the diner's counter, shifting a little and stretching like he was trying to get the kinks out of his back. |

Vanessa held back as the men entered. She shifted the hooded jacket so it was easy to slip off should the need arise. This exposed her halter top, tight across her ample bosom. Once she entered, she scanned the room and then stepped to the bar and orders a vodka tonic. She kept her sight off the target, while still keeping him in her periphery view. She laughed at someone's random joke, tossing her curls across her shoulder. She analyzed the distance from her to the back table, tossing out one idea, and working on another.

Nodding her thanks once more to Adrian, Laurie stepped out of the weather and into the dimly lit restaurant. Given the time of day, the place seemed quiet, but there were enough people around to keep the staff busy and ward off any odd looks her small party received. She immediately moved down the rows of booths, heading for the small group of targets, and found a comfortable seat across from them. Methodically she placed the grey wrapped gift box on the seat beside her, removed her still dry jacket, and carefully folded it up before sitting down. With Adrian most likely having already returned to their vehicle, Vanessa heading straight for the men they had come to collect, and the Mao and Jon remaining on their feet, the simple play by play the group had planned began to unwind. Reaching for a menu on the table in front of her, Laurie began to read - not the menu itself, but the men sitting across from her, one hand resting comfortable on the lid of the gift box by her side. She glanced at her watch, noting the mission's start time, and tried to relax as she watched Vanessa work her magic. |

Adrian got back behind the wheel of the car as soon as the rest of the team made their way towards the diner; getting into shelter from the rain. He switched on the radio and tuned it to a station he likes, then lit one of his cigarettes and began reading the latest news on his cortex uplink. After smoking and reading for a few moments, he paused. He tilted his head, as if deciding something, and pulled his revolver from the shoulder holster under his jacket, and placed it carefully in the gap between the door and the seat. "Better safe than sorry old boy." He muttered to himself, and went back to reading. |

Jonathan stepped out of the car and placed his hat on his head, then with little consideration for the others, he headed in. He ordered a drink at the bar and received Mao's nod before deciding to scout out the plan. Heading toward the bathroom, Jon surveyed the immediate area. Finding the side door, he checked it to make sure it would open and took the opportunity to take a look at the alleyway beyond. It was important that they had no company. |

The crew split up and went into their individual setups. The time was soon. Vanessa lowered her head, put the glass rim to her lip and then with the smoothness of a well experienced drinker, downed the last of the vodka with a raising of her head and the glass in one fluid motion. The warmth shot down her throat, settled her nerves and satisfied her thirst. All in one instant. She slipped her jacket off her right shoulder, turned away from the bar and took several steps across the floor, avoiding intervening tables on her way toward the target's table in an oblique path. She made to approach from one side, with Charles on the nearest approach, but not a direct route so as to avoid suspicion. a meter from the target, she deliberately cross stepped, tripping herself, and stumbling. Twice she faltered, allowed her short skirt to creep up higher, and turned away at the last moment, dropping backwards into Charles' lap. She landed soft, but did a tiny squirm guaranteed to elicit a physical auto response from his lap. She felt his cock stiffen and she giggle, throwing her left arm around his neck and looking glassy eyed into his face, inches from her own. "Oops! *hic* Soory, sir. guess I slippped on my wee little feet. Oh, man, you are soon strong! " She wiggled a little more in a fake attempt to regain her feet, but then settled back into his arms. "And my drinkie is all gone! Would you buy me another?" Aghast at the spectacle, Charles' blush ran deep into his cheeks, and yet, here was this drunken girl trying to flirt with him. He felt the haze of his own drinks and the blood coursing to his lower extremities, and threw caution to the wind. His compatriots guffawed at his predicament, and raised their glasses in salute. He raised one hand in signal to the bartender and pointed at Vanessa's empty glass. On a nod from the barkeep, he turned his attention back to the giggling hussy in his lap. "So what's a nice girl... " He shook his head at the feeble attempt to his pickup line. "Got ya a fresh drink, darling. Just hang out with us, yeah?" Vanessa smiled weakly and buried her face in the man's neck, nibbling gently on his ear before giggling again and coming up for air. She looked at his face with half closed eyes, catching his attention, and holding it. She licked her lips and turned her face toward his, offering a kiss. At the same time, her right hand drew a line from her shoulder down to her halter top, and stopped just at the edge of her cleavage, pausing there a moment for effect before secretly crushing the hidden capsule in the hem, and smearing the gel onto her middle finger tip. Their lips touched, and she opened hers gently, allowing his tongue to trace them but refusing his to enter her mouth. She gasped and sat up, breaking the contact and coughed. Turned her face away and reached down for his drink. "Woo. Sorry, got a backlash. Here, take a drink and we'll get to know *hic* each other better." Her drug ladened finger traced the rim of his glass as she handed it up. The drug, once absorbed into his drink and then to his stomach would cause a severe abdominal discomfort often associated with food from certain hispanic regions of Earth-That-Was. She squirmed again as he took the drink and downed the contents in a macho show of testosterone-muddled machismo. She kissed him again on the cheek and tossed his hair with her left hand, still located behind him. She was glad he took the bait, and she wouldn't have to switch to Plan B. They settled into an on again off again game of kissing and chatting while she waited on the drug to hit. It wasn't long. A sudden grumbling sound emitted from his abdomen and Vanessa was practically thrown out of his lap as he staggered to his feet. She rolled with the action, catching herself before colliding with another table, and dropped into a vacant chair as he made drunken strides toward the restrooms. His fellow drinkers showered his discomfort with laughter and cat calls all the way. She waited, counting the seconds, watching the eyes around her, and glancing at Laurie for clearance. Then she got up and staggered her own way toward the ladies room where she could recompose herself. It was a dirty business, but she was good at it.

Laurie caught the eye of Jonathon, the mild mannered 'run folk over' member of the crew, and raised a quiet eyebrow as she played witness to the antics across from her. Vanessa, for lack of a better word, knew her way around a situation like this. There was no shame in the job, though - the other woman of the team was achieving, seemingly with ease, what characters like Jon and Laurie would more likely achieve through a spray of bullets. Soon enough, the drugs would be taking affect. Rising to her feet, feeling far more like a spectator than anybody 'in charge', Laurie methodically made a show of grabbing her jacket and the gift box beside her and, ensuring that Vanessa had seen the exit, made her way to the bathrooms. If everything stuck to the timetable, she'd be in position for when the group of marks made their way to the back of the restaurant in a few minutes time. |

Charles embarrassed and aroused in her intoxicated haze was the envy of his buddies. All three of the others had similar thoughts about how assholes always seem to fall into shit and come out smelling like roses. One of their relief barges into the place. The man looks around and nods when he sees them. "Hey one of you idiots need to sign out of the dispatch book." Striding over he hands the book to Frank. Frank puts his thumb on it and makes an halfhearted apology."Sorry Stephan. It was a long night." Stephan just grunts in disgust. " A little early huh? Jeez Charles already looks like hell." " Don't judge us man this is our night time." Stephan marches off having the same thought about Charles as the other three just did. Charles was thinking about how rude some gorram daywalkers can be in between kissing his new found drunken princess when his stomach lurked. He threw her off and made to the restroom like lightening to the ground. Everyone rolled with mirth as they all thought that Charles had just screwed up the easiest chance he would ever be given. When Frank saw that the other two didn't care if Charles was fine he got up to go see if he was okay, and if he was to make fun of him to no end. Edited by biffcalhoon, Feb 6 2016, 04:24 AM.

James Mao prepared to go. Vanessa had made her move, Jonathan was at the bathroom doors and near the alley. No one seemed to be the least aware of their nefarious plan. As Charles became sick Mao was on the move. Then a second man moved to follow Charles. No the best option, but one they figured was possible. Vanessa would keep the other two occupied for a few more minutes. A lead blackjack slid into Mao's hand as he followed the second man to the restrooms. Once inside he'd take out the trailing man with a thump to the head. Jonathon would be working Charles already. Then back out for Mao to the main room to signal his other conspirators while Charles would be dragged to the alley. James would run hindrance to anyone else needing to use the facilities, the ladies to follow to the car in the alley. It was smooth sailing so far. The hard part would be the armored car later. |

Vanessa caught the movement of Frank heading past her to the restroom, but then Mao trailed in behind. She paused long enough to avoid drawing attention to herself and the others working the backroom. Leaning against the door jam of the hallway door that fed into the restrooms, she kept the guard on anyone else following. A soft thump and Frank was down. Jonathon dealing with Charles and then the back exit to move both bodies out into the alley. She would hold position until that was accomplished, and then signal Laurie.

Jonathan made his way down the hallway in time with the target's approach. He spotted company, but also saw James ready to deal with it and removed it from his concern. He held the bathroom door for Charles, then as the man passed, a wrapped a arm around his throat and entered with him. They feel back against the bathroom door, securing it as Jonathan tightened his grip to render the man unconscious. He felt the moment that control seeped from the body in his grip, and threw the victims arm over his shoulder and escorted him out as a friend who had had one too many. He was presented with James escorting a body too. "Are we taking him with us?" He asked, as they made for the exit and into the alleyway. |
