As Thane exercised, the sheriff entered and walked along in front of the cells, glaring at each of the men and grinning letcherously at the women. As he walks, the deputy backs away in deference to his boss.

The women are in the cells at the top of the map, the men in the lower.

One of the women is fairly young, and cowers in the corner of her cell.

The other, is strung up by chains in the center of her cell, showing several wounds from whips or rubber hoses.

The two men are in a cell to the right of Thrane:

It wasn't until she was walking along the street, looking for a prospect that the idea struck her. Felicity stopped abruptly and smacked her forehead with the palm of her hand. There were other ways of getting into prisons that didn't require being arrested. One was being a relative: another was being a member of one of the ubiquitous prison visitation groups who visited prisoners, remand or convicted, who didn't have any family to visit them.

"A card would be good," she thought and looked around for a print shop that did instant business cards or something close enough. She didn't intend to put her own name on the card; Felicity intended that if called on it, she would say that she had run out of her own.

Not seeing anything obvious she resorted to using her data pad to see if it could bring up any local business that might fit the bill. She wasn't hopeful.

Felicity finds a stationary store that is just around the corner, out of sight from her present location. As she walks the wooden boardwalk, she sees the jail and prison at the end of the street. One man stands near the corner, cautiously watching her movements. He seems to be a local, dressed in dusty bib-overalls, and with an oversized brimmed hat pulled down on one side to shelter his eyes from the bright sun.

Two other men are arguing at a hardware store along her path, and as she passes, they glare at her.

Thane continued his workout as the sheriff passed by his cell. Moving into a plank position he looked across at the women in the opposing cells. Both looked too young to be in lock up which either meant they'd done something terrible or possibly taking the fall for a boyfriend. A lot of gangs used women like that, they typically had shorter jail terms and were eager to protect their boyfriends.

The two men next to him didn't look quite so innocent. He didn't pay them much mind though, as he was much more interested in the damsels.

"You ladies look like you could use some fun. What say we bust out of here and grab a brew?" He jested, knowing he wasn't going anywhere. The thought of a drink however was appealing and definitely on his to do list once he finished his term.

Now taking a closer look at the one woman he noticed the wounds for the first time and by the way the sheriff had stared them down he was pretty certain where they came from.

"I see you have some special privileges. Must be on some serious good behavior to get that sort of attention. What're you in for?" His tone grew more serious as he stood and moved to the front of the cell, resting his arms on the cross bar of the cell.

"Well I never," Felicity thought when she saw the stationery store with a sign in the window advertising printing of business cards in any quantity.

She got a simple card made up ....

Felicity Mendelssohn
Prisoner Aid Society

.... with a cortex address that would seem legitimate and an address that was on a planet she had been to but which wasn't the sort of address that would be checked up on physically. She had three dozen printed so that it looked like she expected to hand them out both to the guards and to prisoners.

With the cards in her handbag she made her way to the gaol. Outside she had moved reasonably purposefully, mindful of the limited time at her disposal but once in the building her demeanour changed dramatically and she moved to the reception desk in a timid manner.

"H-hello. M-my n-name is Felicity M-mendelssohn. I'm f-from the P-prisoner Aid S-society. We v-visit p-prisoners on remand t-to .... " she said, clearly very nervous, and paused for a moment as though trying to put her thoughts in order to convey what it was that she was there to do. She took the opportunity to offer one of the cards, her hand shaking. "W-we t-try t-to h-help p-prisoners t-through t-their ordeal." She finally managed to get through her spiel, hoping that what she had made up on the spot would be accepted.

"I d-don't want t-to b-be any b-b-bother b-but c-c-could I see the p-prisoners?" she asked, the stutter getting more pronounced and her expression looking ever more likely that she would burst into tears if her request was denied.

"I should have had a drink or too before I did this," she thought, recalling the various bars she had seen as she had made her way from the ship to the gaol; the tremor in her hand hadn't been entirely the product of her acting skills. "Afterwards, I'll buy a bottle or two," she thought, knowing that the chances of her being able to do so would be minimal and realising belatedly that she should have done that first; her supplies on the ship were non-existent, a normal situation when starting a command and something that was usually 'rectified', despite her best intentions at the first or second port of call.
