Bells and pineapples.

"Nice use of the fruit. Barely noticeable," remarked Mike as Ian put their safeword into effect. It looked as though one of their crew was in trouble, so time for more action. Some random thought in his head suggested Ian had let Mike fully recover before finding trouble. Arguably in this case, Jasper had found the trouble. Not unlike him to. Didn't mean he deserved it.

Becker sighed.

"Okay. Let me load up." Mike had played gentle and cautious enough in the past. Perhaps it was time to step it up. Pistol at his side as always, but if his last attacker wasn't needing her submachine gun anymore, he saw no reason not to throw the strap over his head, and tie his coat up to cover the weapon. Mike didn't fancy playing gentle on this outing. Keep it simple - grab Jasp and get out of there quickly.

"Remember. We're famous to anyone with cortex link. Let's not spend too long in the open. The quicker we're back with our mechanic, the better." Mike stop beside Ian. He was ready to go.

"All hands. We have a rescue mission. Jasper is in trouble. Abe, get your best long range boys ready. Comm buds for each of us. Syl, get the Blaze warmed up. Beth, I suspect casualties so prep the Med Bay. Mike, your with me. Once everyone is in position, Mike and I will stroll in and pick up Jasper. Keep comms open. Everybody clear?"

Sylandra startled at the broadcast, just as she and Beth were rousing from their sex induced nap. She rolled sideways out from under Beth, her feet hitting the deck as one hand pushed her the rest of the way up off the mattress. She glanced down at her still naked body; her breasts wet from sweat, nipples still tingling from Beth's ministrations. A smile brushed across her face and she ran one hand through her knotted hair as she attempted to get it off her face and back onto her neck where it belonged.

"Sounds like troub. Best we be dressed 'n' go."

She bent back over the smaller woman, giving a playful slap to the nicely rounded buttock exposed by the tussled sheet. Then she turned back to her wardrobe, pulled on a pair of cargo shorts and snapped the buckle tight. A loose "wife beater" came next, followed by a leather vest. The undershirt felt rough against her bare skin, but the vest helped to hide the excitement she felt from the fabric.

She thought a moment before hitching her gun belt up from the shelf and strapping it on. Then as a last thought, she grabbed her body vest and tucked it under her arm.

Might not be immediate danger, but best I be ready. Looks more professional, anyway.

She turned back to see how Beth was coming along, and then bolted out the door and headed toward the Blaze, bare feet slapping the deck as she ran.

Beth's first reaction to the announcement was a muttered, indistinct, "Not again!" being a reference to her time with Sylandra being prone to interruption. Then when she felt Sylandra slide out from underneath her.

"It wasn't a dream!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with wonder. Her eyes still glistened but now her emotion was one of joy and not sorrow.

She felt the slap on her bare buttock and let out a squeak of surprise but she was also surprised to find it arousing. "Something to remember," she thought with a smile. "You're leading me astray, Sylandra," she accused as she rolled over in preparation for getting up off the bunk and then added, "I like it."

Beth wasn't far behind Sylandra, putting on her panties and then her slacks but not bothering with her bra. Usually she didn't like being hot and sticky but this time it was a reminder of what they had shared and she liked that. She managed to steal a kiss just as Sylandra turned to check on her progress.

She grabbed her deck shoes and followed Sylandra out of the door but she stopped by the infirmary and grabbed her medical bag. Beth found bare feet to be tricky on the steel deck with the everpresent risk of stubbing a toe. She was lucky on this occasion but resolved to get some shoes that didn't have laces.

"I think I am better on Blaze, Captain," she said firmly, this being treated to her area of expertise. "If someone needs attention, the sooner I can start, the better the outcome is likely to be," she added.

At the Thirsty Turtle...

The local tavern had a large room face a wide alley. There was a small hall wth toilets on both sides. And then the back room. A small thin alley way went all around the building.

Ian and Mike were near the entrance. Abe down the street with an angle on one of the side alleys. They had looked around, the back door was solid but a possible escape route.

Blaze was revved up and ready to fly. It would take less than a minute to get to the Thristy Turtle.

In went Ian and Mike, a last bit of wind came out of nowhere and blow a duster.

....
The Thirsty Turtle wasn't so much a spacer bar, how Jasper how found it was hard to say. The man had a way for places between the seems.

Jasper Daltry stood at the far end of the hallway at the end of the hall. He was in the doorway with another man. Jasper smiled and waved them back.

No one seemed to pay any attention to Ian and Dugan... Except two men at the bar and a couple of loose ladies paid by the hour that gave them a smile near the door.

... Nearby Abe field a bristle at the back of her neck. Some across the alley moved with too much interest in her.

Ian nodded his understanding to both Mike and Beth. He noted that the scents of the two were more commingled than Sonya and Lear's used to be.

It was nice that folk found love out on the Black.

"Let's roll."

Thirsty Turtle

Ian noted everything in his surrounding ares.

One of the women by the door that smiled so presently had a five dollar bill sticking out of her bodice. Just the tip, but enough to see. There was still flecks of semi fresh blood on the bar near them.

Browns and blacks were the dominant color for clothing. But no one had that shade of brown.

Of all the folk in the place, only three paid them any mind.

Ian walked toward the Jasper having indicated the two men to Mike.

Jasper.

He waited, his weapons clear, but not threatening. Loose but expecting

Death kissed him on the cheek.

Outside the Thirsty Turtle

Abe watched through her scope as Ian and Mike went into the Thirsty Turtle. She was a way down the street and was set up to cover the alley.

"I'm in position," she reported as she looked down the scope she added to Wyatt.

Lester, her big sniper rifle, would probably have been best for what they were doing, but he was a bit cumbersome and if they needed to leave in a hurry, packing him back up into his suitcase and hauling him off the rooftop would have been a burden. Wyatt was still fine. Lighter to carry and she could still hit the mark from this distance with him.

As she waited to hear what was going on, she caught a bit of movement from the corner of her eye. She shifted a little, pulling another scope out of her pocket and looking that way.

Sure enough, there was someone over across the way. And they had made her. She just didn't get made that often. This person was looking for her. This person knew they were coming.

"I've been made," she said with great annoyance as she stuffed the scope in her pocket, grabbed Wyatt and rolled to where she had more thorough cover. "It's a trap."

It had to be.

Looked like Ian's Murphy wanted to play.

Again.

Sylandra kept Blaze humming, just off the street and hovering about 10 feet off ground. Beth sat in the co-pilot seat, both of them watching the street approach to the bar. Syl's finger twitched near the gun button, the rotary candor's barrel was fee just to the left of the shuttle's nose. She licked her left thumb and placed a dab of wet on the inside of the windscreen directly in front of her, slightly down. It would be her aiming pip if she needed to open fire. Her previous actions in the craft had given her a good sense of the trajectory of rounds, where they were most effective and where they would drop off in their deadly arc.

"Standin' by; Abe, if they look hostile, I c'n smoke 'em."

Her attention was on the matter at hand, but feeling Beth near by, almost in reach, gave her a calmness she wasn't that used to. Her stomach wasn't flipping over like it usually did in times of stress.

Mike put up a cheerful smile and waved at Jasper. "Hey..." and through his earpiece came, it's a trap. "Yeah makes sense," he remarked, still smiling. He looked around and nodded to the friendly women, then clocked the attention from the bar.

"Go get our boy. I'll get us some drinks." And Mike headed for the bar, fixing to provide cover and mark the two most suspicious people in the room. He ordered whatever was good, and as he reached into his coat for a credit stick, he took the safety off his SMG. That should come handy in a pinch if trouble started.

When trouble started.

Beth had been expecting an argument and Ian's quiet agreement left her surprised and, if she was honest with herself, pleased that her professional opinion had been recognised, even if tactical placement of assets wasn't within her area of expertise. "Or perhaps Ian just took the easier course," the cynic in her suggested. Ultimately it didn't matter; the important thing was that she wouldn't be left on Glory waiting and wondering if Sylandra was okay.

Sitting in the copilot's seat was novel, sitting next to Sylandra, even though she was just out of reach was better yet.

Feeling the tension, Beth glanced across at Sylandra and smiled what she hoped was a reassuring smile. She didn't do more and returned her attention to keeping a look out for any hostiles that might jeopardise any part of the mission. It was hard, focusing on the task in hand when the memory of Sylandra's touch on all off her intimate places was still so fresh but it was not the first time that she had had to subdue personal matters to allow her to concentrate on the task; the difference this time was that the stakes were higher because there were more lives involved than was common on the operating table and her hands were not actively manipulating a scalpel or a remote operating device.

Abe's announcement that she had been made prompted Beth to look both for the person that Abe had spotted and anyone else that might be in a position to get a firing solution on Abe. She saw movement which caused her to draw her breath in sharply. It wasn't in the direction that Beth felt that Abe would have noticed; she wasn't sure .

"Abe; potential second hostile at your ....." Beth tried to figure out the relative position and took a stab at it, hoping that her communication wouldn't make things worse rather than better: "Five o'clock .... I think."

Beth could only hope she had got it right. She risked another quick glance at Sylandra to see if she had picked up the same thing and then focused back on the view out of the shuttle's forward viewports, the fingers of one hand crossed for luck and the fingers of the other digging into the palm to help her control her apprehension.

The man across the street had been spotted, he ran across the street heading for Abe's building as he spoke into a comm.

Inside one of the men behind Jasper moved forward and shoved him. As Jasper's ankles were tied, the tumbled to the floor. The man behind had a pistol out, the other behind him came around with a rifle. The first man yelled, "Freeze Dugan, it's dead or alive."

At the bar two men move to take their weapons from under jackets.
A third and fourth on the other side of the bar did the same.

Outside the bar a man took a shotgun from under his jacket and moved to cover the door.

Ian just smiled as Ghost and Ryder seemed to appear in his hands and sang their songs of Death. He had practiced many an hour for the fast draw and only a few were better than him. At least while he was still in the prime of his life.

Someday, soon maybe, he'd find that one of those that were faster or would get too slow in old age. On that day, he would kiss his Mistress on the lips and fall into her embrace.

That was in the future

Today was not a good day to die.

Everybody Out. Now!!

He ordered as he moved to the side and fired again. His first bullets found their mark in the man that had spoken. Neither bullet took the man's life, but one to each shoulder and the third in his right leg.

That had to hurt, he thought as he continued to move and shoot, coming close to Jasper as he did so.

Sylandra crused silently as she tipped the nose of the Blaze down toward the street level, and at the man guarding the door. Her finger brushed the red button on the yoke, and four rounds screamed out of the shuttle's cannon, bracketing the man, and separating his torso from his legs. His head exploded as his death grip fired off one blast from his shotgun before the gristly remains spattered against the wall. The door to the bar burst into pieces as well, sending fragments into the bar proper.

At the loud staccato, the other man making his way across the street stopped and looked up, just as Syl slide the shuttle's nose over to point at him. At the sight of a large vessel with obvious intent to do bad things to him, he froze in his tracks, mind frantically seeking a solution to his dilemma.

"Move... Just twitch..." Syl whispered.

On this occasion, Mike wasn't as kind as Ian.

When Becker saw steel in the hands of the men at the bar, he squeezed the trigger of his SMG. Bullets ripped through his coat, then tore through the pair with few shots going wide at such a short distance. It was quick work.

Becker turned his attention to goons across the bar. He let the weapon empty it's clip in their direction. Accuracy was sacrificed, but for the shots that didn't connect, there was at least covering fire for Ian.

As the the gun clicked in absence of ammo, Becker dropped behind the bar and reached for his pistol instead.

"Got him yet Ian?" Mike was focused on recovering his crewmate, whatever he had to do.

((CORRECTED))

The men near Jasper. The second man had ducked behind the first man to avoid Ian's initial volley. He took a slower careful aim at Dugan when his knee buckled as Jasper, on the floor kicked and broke it with a double kick of his bound legs.

Becker vs. the bar.
The men not suffering from direct hits were more than shaken from the bursts of the machine gun. They fired wildly but quickly turned to flee. It would be difficult for Becker to target them now as they were mixed in with the other bar patrons heading for the front door.

Outside the bar the man guarding the door was shot to pieces by the guns of the shuttle. The second man moving across the street froze. He dropped his weapon and raised his hands, moving back hoping to show his intention to withdraw.

Seeing that Jasper had taken down the only man left to do them any harm, Ian walked to his Engineer.

"Jasper"

It was all he said as holstered one of his weapons and pulled his knife from his boot. He cut the ropes at Jasper's feet and helped him up. Still not taking his eyes, or weapon, off the man on the floor. He cut the ropes binding Jasper's hands.

He heard Mike call out.

"Yeah, I got'em. And company too."

To Jasper he continued

"That Tech get out of this alright?"

Japser Daltry shook his head no. He moved further back into the room. The techie was curled up. Daltry got a blanket and bundled her up. "I'll take her to the hospital."

Before he left the back room, "Thanks Captain." A short pause. "Bounty hunters." He said for explanation of the entire matter. He headed out through the tavern as local militia/police arrived and started asking questions. they didn't seem particularly organized. Not stupid, just not trained.

Beth let out a little cry of horror as the man disintegrated into little bits as the shuttle's guns pummelled him. She had seen plenty of blood and death before but watching a man come to pieces was a little too much for her. She turned her head away and vomited, though she did at least have the presence of mind to grab one of the little bags for just such a purpose and get it positioned before she did so.

Having finished, Beth closed the bag and wiped her face, turning back to the view port in time to see the other man backing away, his weapon discarded and his arms in the air.

"Don't shoot him, please," Beth pleaded quietly and then, to add strength to her argument, added, "Perhaps we could take him prisoner and find out what is going on." It was only then that she remembered that being taken prisoner on Glory was perhaps not the best thing for the man. She didn't say anything more; it had been said and she felt that anything more she might say would not be helpful.

She worked very hard to keep her attention focused between the man and her lover and away from the splattered remains of the other man.

Abe was grateful for the air support. She didn't often get made, but once she did in this instance, she was pinned down and unable to help Ian and the others.

She heard the shots of Mike's weapon from inside the bar and she peeked around the edge of the roof to see another man wilting in front of the sights of Blaze.

She rushed down the side stairs and strode straight over to the man, who was cowering and used the butt of Wyatt to render the guy unconscious. Then she turned to Sylandra and Beth in Blaze and shrugged.

"What can I say? I'm little and I use what I have to my advantage," she looked down at him to see he was quite unconscious. "He won't be bothering us for a while."

She spied some rope nearby, grabbed it and trussed him up. Again, she looked at Sylandra and Beth and shrugged.

"And I grew upon a farm. You have no idea what kind of uses you could find for rope."

Then she turned and inched her way inside, not knowing what she'd find.

"Please let them be ok... Please let them be ok..." she murmured as she looked inside and surveyed the scene.

Things were under control and Jasper was leading the tech away.

"We good here Ian?"

One of the policemen seemed to at least to be trying to get some order. He interviewed a couple bystanders and a couple of the Glory crew. He had a couple of 'his' men take away the prisoner Abe had trusted up.

Then he was on his comm, "yes sir. Yes sir. I'll ask him."

"Captain Dugan?"

Other patrons and employees assisted a bit, not really stopping to turn completely away from their drinks and food.

Once getting Dugan's attention, "this sort of thing is getting rather common here sir. The Sheriff is requesting a meeting sir. He think perhaps, uh, while your ship is being refit that uh, you and yours might help get some order here. We're rather short on policing and such and with all the independents and others, things are getting quite out of hand."

Sylandra adjusted the throttles and allowed Blaze to settle down into the street, billowing dust covering her momentarily. The whine of the engines died down to a soft hum, keeping the ship ready, but at ease. She smiled as she turned to the medic.

"Ok, no more shoot'em ups... For now. Maybe good time for you to check on our crews condition? I'll stay put here in case we need to jump. "
