Hello fellow drifters in the Verse! Real talk for a moment if I may, Poor young Unit had finally come of age, and It's time to leave the nest and go out to the scary real world. Or at least to University. As someone who used to be a very social person but has in recent years retreated into my shell a tad, some advice from all you old people about how to survive meeting new people, living on pittance and all the other things that make up the next three years for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Unit |

My awakening from childhood to adulthood (some many many years ago), was to Realize, that we are all just people with our individual ideas, goals, talents and faults. Being someone who in high school was a Nerd/Geek and didn't fit in with the Jocks and Prom Queens, but who had a certain creative talent, was smarter than some, and more interested in the future, I realized that they had their talents and I had mine, and although they weren't any better than me as a person, I was just as good as them at what I could do. Be yourself, don't try to be someone else just to make friends or to "Get along" ... it's fake and eventually, they will find out anyway. You will attract those who understand you and accept you for yourself. And be open to newness of the experience. It will help you to grow and expand your own background. Be open to those who come to you for your talents. Ok, that's my sermon. LOL |

But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow. Things should start to get interestin' right about now ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |

Gorram that's a touch poetic. I echo those thoughts. You can put yourself out their in certain ways though, if you're worried you're meeting no one. Writer's clubs are popular and full of like-minded people, or perhaps there's a hobby more to your fancy. At the end of the day you'll very easily make friends as you spend lecture halls with the same people every week. Mention that you think Firefly is your favorite TV show ever and you'll find a few best friends. Personal note. Make the most of it and jump on every opportunity. A lot of people, myself included, look back 3 years later and see all the time wasted around 8 hours work a week. It can be a very easy time, do stuff you want to before it's hard. Good luck sir. Enjoy it. |

I agree with all of these sentiments! Also really remember and appreciate the fact that change IS the ONLY constant. Don't rope yourself in, as I have been known to do (combat Veteran style), rigid and perfectionist routines. It is good to have routines and such for time management but to pigeonhole yourself to an inflexible schedule will bring you nothing but constant disappointment. Change will always happen and you will need to be ready and have the flexibility to adapt to any change coming your way. Perfectionism in a strange form of procrastination. Be like water and go with the flow. |
